  1. Its probably for that exact reason that they are giving discounts if you do both the long routes, that way they encourage more people to do them both. Previously I did the 50km mtb and 100km road, but then cycling back towards Knysna on the road into a strong head wind, I saw all the guys going to Harkerville or coming back from doing Harkerville and they all had HUGE smiles on their faces. Now I just go and do the MTB and then ride Harkerville the next day, much more fun. This year I'm attempting the 85km mtb for the first time.
  2. I'm not sure when the next one will be, but the "ride before you buy" days that are held are great for someone looking to get a mtb as that way you can feel which one you like. Its a very personal thing when it comes to a mtb. Living in Stellenbosch, you have Jonkershoek just down the road and for a place like that, a full suspension is much more fun. Sram vs Shimano, I much prefer the Sram and have had less, actually no problems with it.
  3. This is sick! What about all the small pubs that can only hold +- 20 people.
  4. My baby, standing in my office begging me to ride her. And she looks like a mountain bike with her dirty tyres.
  5. I had a similar problem. I got my first box thinking it was the complete order. The vat was for the full order as well so I paid it. Opened the box and found only one of the items. Got the 2nd box a day later and it had the same invoice so they charge me the same amount again. I luckily queries it when they phoned to say that had the good and let me know how much I needed to pay. Maybe we should speak to CRC and ask them to not put the same invoice on both parcels as it seems to be causing quite a few problems.
  6. Geco Cycles for me by a mile. Great service etc even though I ride a brand that don't sell. I've had a bad experience at 2 of the shops on the list and also one of the other ones mentioned.
  7. I don't see why women should not be able to comment on this!!! The transision is harder for us than for you guys as we have to carry the kid around for 9 months and then spend the next few months trying to build up our stomach muscles etc again. We lose a lot of our fitness in that period. For the dads, they only have to stop cycling for a week or 2 when the child is first born. After that, and obviously within reason, you can go straight back to training. You just gotta plan a bit more. The first year, it was hard for me to get much riding in, but from 1 year plus, its been a lot easier. Thing is I chose to go back to work instead of being a stay at home mom. It means I can afford the luxuries in life like a nice carbon bike and send my kid to a decent school etc.
  8. firewolf, to answer your question, a kid has way more value than a full carbon bike!!! I was devestated when I first found out I was pregnant, but now just over a year and a half down the line, I'm getting fit again and am planning my all the races I'll be doing this year and next i.e Karoo to Coast, Wine2Whales etc etc. You don't have to chose between the two, you can have both. I know guys that have got a few kids and still gone and done the Epic. What has made it easier is that I bought a trailer for my kid so now I get to train and spend time with him at the same time and he LOVES the trailer. Oh and I've got a much better bike now that I had before having my kid.

Had the same problem yesterday. On a new reply on the same thread I was able to add a pic, strange.
  10. also Dischem. But I normally buy the sachets as then I can rotate the flavours and the Gels. Cytomax, I know you are cheaper with the sachets as well and have more flavours, but dischem is right where I shop for groceries so easy and I don't use enough to warrant getting it delivered. I was shocked though when I saw the sachets in a shop in the Southern suburbs at how much more they were charging than dischem. Love the product though!!! I suffer with sinus and this is the first product that I doesn't give me a phlegm build up.

    Simonsvlei

Directions to this thread please ? Its not a specific Simonsvlei one, just a general one of peoples injuries. Was flying around a week or two ago.

This is worse than the thread with all the injuries. So sad to see these beautiful machines broken like this.
  13. I got a nice surprise. The only seeding race I've done in the last 2 years is the 2009 Burger. My time was pretty slow so I was expecting a 8:30 or so start. I'm starting in AA at 7:40 !!! Earliest I've ever started :-) And no, its not a mistake. I phone and checked as my friend who did a faster Burger is only starting in WW. The apparently are using the RACETEC seeding index which means my other pre-child rides when I was fit are included :-) I'm so happy right now. Means I get to the beer tent an hour before I expected to. Although I have a feeling my group might just ride away from me.
  14. I'm only negative because we can't get any tickets to the games!!! We have applied everytime and still no luck. But then we aren't going for the cheapest SA tickets as we have overseas visitors joining us. We want to see England as they are the team we support (I'm half english and my husband was born there). I have also applied for other tickets where I'll get to see a big team like Spain or Brazil etc. Because I watch the premier league and champions league, I will know a lot of the players!!! The SA games I will watch, but from home. Right now, I just wish they would hurry up and finish the road works.
  15. Yay, I get a noddy badge :-) I've got a photo of the same singletrack.
  16. My bottle of Cytomax !!! Has saved me a few times when out on rides with my mates. Doing anything over 2 hours, I need food. Doesn't matter what food, but if I don't eat I get very dizzy and feel sick. And yes I do eat before I ride, I don't ever miss my breakfast if I can help it.
  17. Yup, I also had fantastic service from them. Bought a trailer for my son and the kit to turn it into a stroller. The trailer I wanted wasn't in stock and turned out it would only be in stock just before Xmas so I took a different model trailer instead. Only problem was that they didn't change the stroller kit to be the one for the new model. It was my fault as I should have asked them to change it. Can't expect them to read the whole order. When I emailed them about it to find out if I could get the correct one, they said they would ship it straight away. They blamed themselves for not having checked the complete order to see if anything else was affected and sent for free, including the shipping. The only think I had to pay was a little VAT. There after sales service was also excellent. We were having a problem fitting it to my full suspension bike and they were extremely helpful in solving the problem. Definite thumbs up from me. If only I could get the same service from the local LBS's.

I didn't get my Knysna photos sent this year, so possibly they have stopped doing that. Think the postal system was to unreliable. I had a big fight with them as I never received my 2008 Knysna photos, but they tried charging me for it and sent threatening letters.
  19. Sounds like 2012 is similar to 300 with the "fake special effects". We went to watch 300 at the cinema and actually walked out before the end. I was expecting a "gladiator" type movie, not some move that was just done with special effects and stupid monsters instead of real people.
  20. Congratulations! Now you just have to wait a year or two before you can buy him his first bike :-)
  21. I'm so glad I live in Cape Town. Yes we also have hijackings, but I've only heard of them on table mountain, the other routes all seem to be fine.
