  1. something like the argus mtb should definitely have timing mats, somewhere on the course that only the long guys do.
  2. Disagree here. I put non-negotionable because I don't want people wasting my time with lower offers (although you still get them). I know what I want and what the item is worth and won't accept less for it. If however time is a factor and I need to sell something quickly, its a different story. I've never had a problem selling something at the price I've asked (have had people try their luck by saying its too much), but just stuck to my guns. Often tend to sell stuff too cheap (when you advertise on gumtree and within 10 minutes you have 5 people who definitely want it, its too cheap). But then thats just me.
  3. Oh how I'd love to get locked in there for a night. Never realised how big it was.
  4. Pity you aren't in Cape Town. I've found a bike workshop who is extremely reasonsable, takes the time to tell me exactly what they have done and how and so far have done a fantastic job on my bike and the price has been even cheaper than I expected.
  5. I agree that it does taste like pronutro which is great for me. I love pronutro, but the milk affects my sinus. Now i get to have something similar, but with water :-)
  6. I got a nice pair of white carbon road shoes on Saturday as an early birthday present :-)
  7. I don't blame the OP for ranting on a forum, I would rather have left the cycles shop name out of it. That way it isn't personal and other people are still warned and will check the bikes better in future no matter what shop they got it from. Me personally, I'm sick and tired of buying things and having to take them back. I work and have a kid so time is limited and taking things back often interferes with my cycling time. The worst is car shops. I've had 2 different makes of car that I've had to take back to the shop more than 4 times. In the end I gave up and sold the cars. If we were to give our customers stuff that wasn't right the first time, we would go out of business. No excuse for sloppy work. Saying that, I now take my bike to a workshop and they have given me the bike back in perfect working order each time and after all my bad experiences, its a breath of fresh air.
  8. Its sounds like the wheels were exactly what was in the picture. If the picture wasn't clear enough, request decent ones. Most shops will only have a 7 day return policy. You can't realistically expect someone to take something back and refund you after more than a month. There is no way to prove the crack was there when you got them. In the month you could have ridden with the wheels and caused the crack. Its a tough lesson, but a lesson learnt all the same. Inspect goods or get someone qualified to inspect goods before buying them!
  9. My anti-histimines work great as sleeping tablets. Sleep like a bomb after taking one. I know why they say only take them at night. Its sad, but mtbing in the Durbanville hills and my sinus don't agree so I live on them constantly (doctors prescription). Pain killers, I only take Panado, or if I need something stronger, Nurofen. For sporting injuries I normally use a transact patch. I'm a little sensitive to drugs, even panado whacks me out. If I want to get all spaced out, then something like My Paid. If I want to bounce like a gummy bear, Myprodol really does the trick. I prefer to stay as far away from drugs as possible.
  10. We will be getting this for my son in a year or two. for now he has a 2 wheel push bike similar to the one posted and its fantastic. We are hoping he won't even need the training wheels this one comes with. http://i54.tinypic.com/160y1jc.jpg
  11. I did buy mine a while back so prices probably gone up since then, it also depends on the rand/pound. I also didn't pay postage as I joined a group order so free shipping. I paid +- 15% tax on it, but no import duty. I also bought the add-on to turn it into a stroller. Well worth the money unless you already have one of those fancy 3 wheeler strollers. The trailer is great for walking in all weather and goes off road easily.
  12. They are great. people reckon the kids can go straight from these onto a normal bicycle without side wheels. He started a few months back getting speed and lifting his legs up, can even go round corners in our house like that. Great for teaching balance. How old is your older one? They reckon kids can ride these up to age 5, but obviously depends on the size of the kid.
  13. From the KTM shop in Paarden Eiland (Cape Town). They aren't cheap though. My son has been riding his for 1 1/2 years so far and still have the seat at its lowest so plenty room to grow. You should search You Tube and see what the older kids can do on them, pretty amazing.
  14. And now he goes everywhere on his KTM ! http://i53.tinypic.com/20fq349.jpg http://i51.tinypic.com/29yo4fc.jpg http://i54.tinypic.com/ett93l.jpg P.S These are from a few months back and helmet wearing was a screaming match, he used to freak out. He now always wears a helmet as he has got a little bit too adventurous.
  15. CRC ! Way cheaper than buying ones in SA (Mine was total R1800, vs R4000 + local). http://i53.tinypic.com/iz9jwz.jpg http://i53.tinypic.com/dgrled.jpg
  16. I got mine from these guys. Service was EXCELLENT !!! I got a phone call apologising that I wouldn't get them the next day (a Friday) and would only get them on the Monday. I had only ordered after 3pm on the Thurs so never expected them earlier. I also got the proper Assos detergent. Its expensive, but it really makes your shorts smell nice :-) Due to the price tag, I have decided to really look after this pair. Either wash them by hand, or use the proper net provided. Its also a matter of trying on the different ones. I tried on about 6 different makes including Cape Storm, Castelli etc and the Assos shorts are the only ones that fit me properly.
  17. I heard the interview about stage 2 yesterday. Reason for taking it through centre of Jhb was so that we can showcase our history etc. What a load of bull. You chose the route that is best for the cyclists, not the one that takes them past the most tourist attracations.
  18. Happened to someone I know riding at Harkerville. He managed to fix it by using a R20 note I gave him to stop the tube coming out. (I didn't have any R10's). We were less than half way at that stage and he managed to complete the ride like that. Neat little trick I would never have thought of.
  19. Actually they the opposite of high heels!!! high heals are a lot easier.
  20. the unofficial downhill track now cuts across the XC track and I can see this resulting in a big crash! People have been saying the trails are so bad and in need of repair. I can't believe this. I rode it two weeks again and I thought the track was in good condition. Ok, so there were a few ruts etc, but thats mtbing. I get bored with perfectly manicured trails.
  21. Its now 12:25, still no name???
  22. I feel the same. Got in with a bad crowd, was drinking and partying way too much. When I started cycling and became hooked, I realise the two didn't go together and I chose cycling. You just can't wake up for a race at 5am when you only got home drunk after 3. I still party, but limit the alcohol. My first bike that I bought as an adult was my Giant Rincon. Loved that bike and it just went, never had any issues even though I didn't look after it properly.
  23. I was going to get this one, but then they didn't have stock so I got the one seater instead (think it was the AT2) Absolutely LOVE it !!! Its well made, easy to use and after 2 years mine is still going strong. We got the additional stroller kit which is well worth it. We stopped using our pram when going for walks and rather used the trailer as it was so much easier to push. Its easy to take off road on jeep tracks, and is nice because its completely weather proof and the kids have space to bring a few toys along. Also space in the back for a few shopping bags (or whatever you want to put in there).
  24. Boys drive makes a big difference to the guys and girls later on. Last year we had a great bunch on the freeway, the moment it hit boys drive, that was it. No more bunch the rest of the trip. We did have one bunch go past us, but they were clearly a really fit group who just didn't get seeded as they were flying. That said, I do like boys drive! Hopefully this year with a better start the group won't break up as much.
  25. I've got a Specialized Captain on the front, Fast Track on the back and have had no problems with delamination. Oh and I use bombs.
