  1. well done to the organisers. will definitely be back. and carnival is a special one to me, first 100km race i broke the 4hr mark. 94.7 4:40 the fast one 4:19 carnival 3:39 just some advice to the novice riders that start of in the later bunches (like myself, was in the GL bunch). its much more enjoyable to ride in a group or bunch. try it. I did so yesterday, and thats how my time improved. found some other riders that were at the same pace and enjoyed a good pace until the end. but remember you have do some work at the front of the bunch too! is there a thread that would teach some of the novice riders on the hub the rules around riding in a bunch??? or can someone elaborate on this. if i had rode the race alone, i would have suffered. but again, well done to the organisers.
  2. i have not read through the other replies, it looks great. can we see those sale threads that we last edited??
  3. i envy you.
  4. was out shopping a few weeks ago for a mtb in 4k price range. i narrowed the options to either a Silverback Alpine or GT Avalanche 4.0. slightly more expensive. (Silverback R4200) eventually we opted for the Silverback, looked a better than the GT, but 2 good bikes.
  5. i agree that they did the right thing to stop the race, but hey, why didn't they have full road closure??? and if you where relying on the metro cops, well lets just say i have my reservations about them (not all of them but some!) other big races in sa are so well organised so, why not put the added effort to probably the biggest cycling event in SA?? i am not too sure, did the previous cape argus cycle tour have the same problem?? Greg Till, looks like egg on your face again, dude. sincerely hoped after your responses to the SA Champs, you guys would have pulled out all the stops to make this event go thru without any major hiccups.
  6. ok, found out already
  7. are ther late entries to the 65km race?? just convinced a relative to participate??
  8. does it matter what class of race A1, B2, etc? thanks
  9. started the fast one at 7:35 and now the carnival at 8:05. things are not looking good. at my rate i think when it comes to 94.7 i'll probably start the day after!! small hijack: which races are used for your seeding? i downloaded the event calender and the road races a classed A1, A2, B1 etc.
  10. maybe it might be a good idea for buyers to vote on sellers, and with some sort of calculation, the seller receives a rating based on how he/she handled a sale. just a thought. but good on you Chaunce, and thanks Charltjie for letting other hubbers know who is a good person to buy stuff from.
  11. nice update on your pic!!
  12. well recently helped a relative get a new mtb. we followed the same process of shopping around to see which shop sold the bike at the best price. we started at Eagle Canyon Cycles, who had the best customer service. we where open with the salesman telling him that we are going to shop around, and he was decent enough to point out stuff that we need to look at when buying a new mtb. that said, we visited 4 other stores, and prices where a bit cheaper, but went back to Eagle Canyon, best customer service won. the thing that still wow's me was that they gave good customer service on low specced bike, lower price means lesser profit margin. big ups to Eagle Canyon Cycles
  13. post apartheid, why do you still want to wear white?????? black, coloured and sometimes brown are the coloures to use!! just joking before i get slashed for some racial comment. dont bother to get them white, i stopped years ago worring about whites. i mean white clothing.

agree that the organising of the race was dissappointing. the directions that was available on the web was totally incorrect (thanks to google earth i found my way). the traffic was a huge concern as riding next to the trucks was very scary. some of the trucks were traveeling quite fast. however, i enjoyed the route.not too difficult. but they should have changed the name of the race. gave all the non competitive cyclists a misconception that this 100km race would be a walk in the park. but a beeeg thanks to all the marshalls and water point assistant to spend their morning in the heat to assist.
  15. thanks cbrunsdon, i have been suffering with my sinus's for some time now. used to use a nasal spray, iliadin, but used it for too long and made everything worse. my wife has been telling me to visit an ENT specialist, but i have been procrastinating. maybe now i have to see one. thanks
  16. constant problem, post nasal drip.
  17. nope. i gym around 3-4 times a week, both cardio and weight training, but dont suffer after those training sessions.
  18. i constantly suffer with a headache after my rides. i tried increasing the amount of water i drink during rides, even carry a peanut butter sandwich/ banana and eat while i ride. the head aches are still there. yesterday i rode in the afternoon, around 3 to see whether the headaches are because i donot eat enough before the ride, so after lunch i went for a ride. around 40km, with high intensity. still got a headache. does anyone have some solution to this, cos its getting uncomfortable after my rides. the wife isn't to impressed either, that i am in no mode to do anything after a ride but relax to ease the pain. thanks
  19. so i was watching the Australian Open tennis this weekend. and then i same Francesca Schiavone and wondered what all the hype was about caster semenya????
  20. on my way to get my roman pizza's!!!
  21. started with McD's breakfast and lunched a lekka fish and slap chips. wife called and rekons that romans pizza got a special, buy the 2 pizza's and get 1 free! pizza for supper now thats all the more reason to have some strong rides this weekend!!
  22. andy, i agree. i am glad that all parties involved are ok, but that road is narrow enough just for the cars, there should be no bicycles on that road.
  23. ride using only one ear piece (left ear) when on the road. not much scenary when road riding. but when mtb, then no music, only enjoying the dirt!!!
