    sorry guys. feel bad. i love my bike and would not want anyone to touch it. this sounds very bad, cos there are other people that are using petty thieves to carry out their dirty work. someone that understands the value of these bikes. maybe we should be now setting traps to catch these guys. also similarly how they would be tracking all the riders in these areas, we should also use the same methods to see who are the common guys that hang around. by the looks of things, the rate at which bikes are being stolen, insurance premiums are going sky rocket. the next time you want to insure your bike, you are going to be told that it is a high risk vehicle and that you need to install a tracker unit it. (there is a lekker idea). lucky you guys are unharmed.

  6. just my 2c, again, although you want to up your distance, i suggest that you should aim to increase the amount of time you spent on the bike. the 40km at esel might be much tougher than a 40km that you would race elsewhere. no 2 races are the same. get your body accustomed to being on the bike for longer periods. once you are comfortable cycling for longer periods (slower rides) then you can decrease the time and increase the intensity. look at last years results, the fastest guy did it in 2 hrs and the slowest in 4hrs. i assume that you are very committed, then you should target to be on the bike for 3 to 3.5 hr. once you are strong being on the bike for such time, then taper down and increase the intensity. enjoy the training

  8. thanks the 2 guys with the blue subaru that had come back to clean up the tacks on the side of the road. further yesterday, i road the cradle route again and i saw that cyclist suffered a puncture and threw his old tube at the side of the road. COME ON GUYS!!! you know that that there are so many complaints about the cyclists and we are trying to fight for our rights to use the roads, but some idiot must go throw some fuel in the fire. please dont start this nonsense. you are teaching all the novice cyclists bad and wrong habits. this is our playground and we are responsible to keep it clean.
  9. had the same problem. until some time back at a race in kzn, me on my GT Zaskar, when an oke in giant boulder passed me like i was riding a tricycle. almost went into hibernation. bike has not changed since, just bought myself a road bike to train. but every so often that bug peeps out and asks "whats in the for sale section??"

  11. maybe not, if the dopers gets sponsered by the manufacturers of the dope, and while they are at it, they should fix a small motor in the bb to assist the riders if the dope aint working to well. so they can get a sponsorship from the guys that make the motors!! there you go all sorted out. enough sponsorship from the performance enhancing bunch, should sort out the salary problems. and if more enhancements you take on, maybe more sponsorships. and you could have the likes of Cantodor, Rasmussen, Landers, Ricco, (maybe Lance) racing in this division, and even Bjarne Riis can make a surprise comeback!!!!!

  13. i have a 2007 Zaskar frame (L).so is the 2011 frame lighter? do you know the actual weights of the the 2 frames?
  14. so why do you think education is vital with ref to this ad; i think he is smart enough, firstly he is a professor, (even though self proclaimed) he found a area in the market we he can sell his services and i would think that many people of his ethnic origin believes in these rituals. he has also included directions / map to his office he has a short turn around time he has time management, you can see by appointment only, and he has over 10 years of experience.

UST tires are strongers than the normal tires that you would use with tubes. i suggest that you do use the UST tires. they have stronger sidewalls. some use the normal tires with a tubeless conversion to save weight but i dont know how reliable that is. you also get bontrager tires that are tubeless ready. they are lighter tires than the normal UST ones.
  16. firstly, if your friends are riding mtb's for the amashove etc, and you want to race them with a road bike, thats not fair. road bikes, then are more commonly sized as 54cm, 56cm etc. very rarely as small,medium or large. i think you would need a 56cm. i am 1.8 and i ride a 56cm gt road bike and a large gt mountain bike. but i suggest that you get yourself to a shop and get the sales guys to assist in determining the right size bike for you. there is a thread on the hub that started recently discussing bike sizes etc. and there was a link to a website that assists with bikes sizes etc. see MTB Frame Size under Rant and Rave. for your budget your can get a fairly decent bike on the hub, but dont go lower than shimano 105 spec. just my 2c
  17. dont have all the answers for you, but this is what i did. my bicycle came with a set of dtswiss x455 rims. with tubes and some i tyre (i cant remember the name). so i went to the bicycle shop, got me a stans conversion kit and a set of kenda karma UST tubeless (UST - universal system tubeless) it comes with rim strip, a rubber strip with a valve attached (sorry dont know what its called) and sealant. took the existing rims, cleaned out the rim strip. stuck the new strip on the rim. then placed the rubber strip with valve on the rim. this one was a bit tricky cos you got to even the rubber around the inside of the rim. put on my tyre, added the sealant. there is a trick here where you need to use soap water around the beading of the tyre (helps seal the tyre to the rim) and you need to inflate very fast. so use a foot pump. you also got to swirl the sealant around the inside of the tyre. thats what i did. always been using the same tyres, no problems.
  18. that is a lot of cycling. but as bikemonster pointed out, if you entering sub vet you would already have a full life outside of cycling, its a tough balancing act to cycle so much and still meet your other responsibilities. what about resting, should that not be a large part of the training schedule? just curious.
  19. hi there, if you entering into the sub-vet group, how do you manage to get some much time on the bike during the week? is your life only cycling or do you work as well?

  21. its your personal goal and i dont think anyone here is going to rip you off for that. try to ride as often as possible and on weekends go to a mtb park try to get some mileage. road cycling is also very beneficial for increasing your endurance. however you just got to be a safe on the road. you dont need anymore motivation to train than the fact that your 60yr old dad (twice your age) is going to kick your butt in the race. also please learn how to fix a puncture. you dont want to be stuck in your first race with a puncture. where are you based???
  22. Best is to get some pro advice. there is Maryke on the hub that is offering this service. also i dont think that you could use the hill training as intervals. the recovery period is very short before you climb the next hill. just my 2c. but like i said, pro advice is the way to go.
  23. please help here, do i only need to use my inseam measurement to determine what size bike i ride or what about the upper body length from my hip to my shoulder? and then my arm length and what about how far forward or upright i should be seated on my seat so that i am comfortable and still in an aggresive cycle position? i seriously considering changing the my mtb frame (ride a large gt zaskar) to a medium. but not sure.
