  1. the hub has people that want to share their opinions and their attitude. dont see any wrong doing. maybe it allows some people to vent off their aggression that they cannot normally do to someone in person. i just say if some one is aggressive on the hub with your comment, give it back to him/her. this is the RANT and RAVE forum after all, and for those who might want some info on "RANT", here's WIKIPEDIA "A rant is a speech or text that does not present a calm argument; rather, it is typically an enthusiastic speech or talk or lecture on an idea, a person or an institution. Compare with a dialectic. Rants can be based on partial fact or may be entirely factual but written in a comedic/satirical form. Rants can also be used in the defense of an individual, idea or organization.Rants of this type generally occur after the subject has been attacked by another individual or group"
  2. what size Zaskar frame do you ride??
  3. have been trying to get the IDT thing going but the boredom really kills. what seems to pass the time away is some good music, also if your training plan has lots of changes in cadence, gearing, resistance etc.
  4. there is a GT for sale for R5500 in the "for sale" section of the hub. looks good. i'd rather buy another bike for that budget and probably keep my older bike for spares. you need to check the specs for size etc. i think it is a medium. just my 2c
  5. i also suffer with having limited time to cycle over the week days. please any suggestions for a quality 1hour training session. i have an indoor trainer as well.
  6. try De Broglio Attorneys, they specialise with the road accident fund, but i think they should help in giving advice. 011 7887273 "Personal injury or Road Accident Fund claim queries can be addressed to Juliet or David at (011) 7887273."
  7. get him (or the bus company) to replace your bike first. after them paying for a top end carbon fibre, dura-ace etc bike, they will definitely learn that knocking over a cyclist, is a very expensive accident. there is a law firm that specialises on cases pertaining to road accidents. busy looking for the contact details.
  8. firstly, it is suicidal to attempt anything further than the exchange of vulgar words towards a taxi driver, especially if i am on my bike and he is in his taxi. i dont want to attemp to understand his frame of mind. further almost all taxi drivers do carry fire-arms, and i dont think to provoke an armed taxi driver and try to out ride him would be a clever idea. the point that i am trying to make is that unfortunately someone has been knocked, but the driver of the bus has been identified, and there is an opportunity to set an example with this driver. the rest of us face the reckless drivers, however the drivers getaway. you can try and remember the license number of the taxi, and then report it to the local SAPS or traffic authority. i'll let you guess what would happen thereafter. (nothing) though i agree that we should be united in attempting to prevent these morons from being reckless on the road, however too many people turn a blind eye.
  9. there were 3 in the top 10 at the XC.
  10. is there a legal case to be opened against the bus driver?? i would like to see what at the consequences the driver has to face!!!
  11. over the weekend, similar incident with me, but i missed it by a few inches. was travelling along christiaan de wet towards northgate. as i crossed over beyers naude, taxi from the opposite direction on christiaan de wet cut on inside to turn into beyers naude. the other vehicles that we turning saw me and waited. the idiot in that taxi thought he could pass them on the inside and almost wiped me out. not going to ride the route again. think i'm going to go back to kromdraai.
  12. stealth mode looks hot!
  13. yep, so he should move back to 26" wheels with stronger tires, same weight as riding 29" with lighter tyres. it sounded like brandon steward was one of the commentators. huge congrats to all the SA riders at the world champs. Burry was looking a bit slow in the last few laps.
  14. sure the morons are not going to go anywhere. but like you we also want to rant a bit and maybe feel a bit better that we share our experiences and stories with other that care to listen. and for the negativity, well, maybe we should all get together in huge convey of bakkies and run the bloddy striking sods over!!! but that is only my opinion!
  15. Jack Parrow - any song was listening to it now on youtube, my day is made!!!!
  16. Read this article now on news24.com Cape Town - Patients facing life and death situations must "negotiate" with strikers about crossing hospital picket lines, a union declared on Friday. The statement, by the National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union (Nehawu) in the Western Cape, comes after strikers in other provinces on Thursday prevented sick people from entering health facilities. Nehawu Western Cape provincial secretary Suraya Jawoodeen claimed in a statement on Friday that the union had "totally shut down" Cape Town's Groote Schuur, Tygerberg and GF Jooste hospitals. She asked that members of the community stay away from these and other service delivery sites. "Those who find themselves faced with a life and death situation must negotiate entry onto the premises with our marshalls (sic) on the picket lines," she said. "We apologise for any inconvenience caused by our action and want to invite the community to join us on the picket lines at Groote Schuur Hospital, GF Jooste and Tygerburg (sic)." She claimed that strikers had also shut down the department of home affairs and department of labour public offices in the province, and several courts and other government offices. How the F!@%* do you negotiate with strikers in a life and death situation??? and they have the nerve to invite the community to join the strike. cant say more, my anger is now becoming overwhelming
  17. would he stay within a budget if he was buying a bike??
  18. but the question remains whether you get paid for overtime?? i personally dont. no matter how many extra hours that i put in, it is considered part of the job. KPA's and KPI's govern my employment
  19. woke up with the same sentiments this morning, that maybe we as the rest of the hardworking south africans, should stand up against this barbarism. the moment you identify one of these idiots vandalising some property or being imtimidating, then the unions are quick to say that the oke is probably not part of the union or that it is not the intention of the strike. But the same things happen for every strike. who gives the right to any of these idiots to prevent my child from attending school, or even a hospital. i pay the schools fees, my medical aid, not the union nor the govnmt.
  20. thanks covie, Shane you are on the wrong track dude. my mum has been a high school teacher for over 30yrs. and as you mention, she is also one of the hardworking ones, no sleep, free tuition after schooling hours, etc. she was one of 2 teachers that lead a SA team of pupils to a UN debating contest in New York, came out winners, and did not even get a thank you from the department. we are giving a general opinion of the strike. but if you want to compare, then ,including my mum, their level of discomfort in being a teacher is nothing compared to the dedicated ones in the health sector who face not only pathetic working conditions provided by the govenment, they are faced with diseases, night shift working hours and the list can go on. spare a moment for them. but for the rest of the incompetent, salary whiners, they can go for an indefinite strike and not come back! so when we say that "they" do not deserve an increase or that the increase proposed is fair, it is a general statement. unfortunately the municipal workers are like a pocket of potatoes, there are good ones, but a **** load of rotten ones!
  21. i dont think you can equate the 2. the person earning 3k will be doing a very much different job from the person earning 10k. If the person earning 3k gets a 7% increase his salary will then be 3210. he will take home almost all the R210 cos there is no PAYE applicable to him, whilst the person earning 10k gets a 7% increase his salary will then around 10700. his PAYE deducation is around R944. after the increase his deduction is R1070. He only sees R574 of R700. so probably only see a 5.5% increase. we should be safe just say they need to be paid above the poverty income line.
  22. Decent wage only for decent job done. some deserve it and a lot dont.
  23. absolutely scary!!!!! and not only our children as their educators, we also allow them to treat and prescribe medication to us. if they provided up standard service, then wanted more money, i'll agree. but there service levels are horrific. Follow the below link to a story in at a Witbank hospital. Was shown on Carte Blanche a few weeks ago. http://beta.mnet.co.za/carteblanche/Article.aspx?Id=4024&ShowId=1
  24. funny thing, got a sms from the school my son attends, Weltevreden Park Primary, "School is open as normal" and not long ago, the school my son attended in KZN,(they have not taken me of there contact listing) says that the "indefinite strike continues. Pupils will be advised when to return to school" will there ever be an end to the unions suggesting workers going on strike?
  25. yes pics, lets not lose focus of this thread! local is lekker!!! going to start looking for some pics now. i wonder how long this thread is going to last?
