What would be the best value for money Bike Insurance be now days? I have been insured with 4 companies,and am currently insured with Outsurance , possibly the only one who insures while actually racing, my excess is R250-00 irrespective of claim size, monthly cost is around R400-00 and I am insured for R125 000-00. You will need to list all your stuff separately ie Cervelo R3 @ R65 000-00, Giant Anthem @ R40 000-00 and a Giant XTC @ R20 000-00. Send them serial nos as well as a pic. I have had two claims , one for R7000-00 and the other for R35 000-00, both claims were settled in full within 48hrs, less the R250-00 excess . With the replacement cost of bikes now you cannot efford not to be insured. Hope this helps your plight. A good cycling year 2010,A new Cervelo R3, Zero falls , few mechanicals, 3H28 Argus ,2H51 Burger and a sub 7H30 D/C with only 6 riders. All in all I would call it a good cycling year, lets hope and pray for the same or better next year. Merry Xmas to all HUBBERS. R3SL.

Correct, just to clarify a point ie 3K or 12K , this pertains to the weight or size of the strands used to make the cloth ( 12K ,fewer heavier strands, while 3K will have more lighter strands) 3K is also more expensive per metre.This explains why 3k is a much finer looking fabric, carbon needs to be under tension in the mould ,as this literally doubles the strength, difficult to replicate at home.

Is Argus any better, probably not, also around the same cost.The smaller events are far far better.

Being a Noordhoek Valley resident I ride Chapmans often , always been quiet and safe, very few cars, great riding etc. Until recently things have been getting a little rough on Chapmans Peak Drive , just last week I was nearly hit HEAD ON by some cow in a blue Toyota Landcruiser on the wrong side of the #@%$ing road, come on ,what the hell is going on. This is the second near miss on Chappies in 2 weeks. Fellow cyclists beware there are a lot more tossers on the road of late.

My condolences to the family and friends, Guys be extra careful on the early morning training rides pre sunrise as that is when we are all most vulnerable, especiallly on Saterday and Sunday morning , if its not the taxi's it the night club folk. Be safe fellow cyclists.
