  1. You can ask anyone from CITY' date=' I was really putting down the hammer on Saterday. They will even tell a story about a lost CHICKEN. For Sunday ask any of the TEMP riders, I went up Oukaaps strong, came down otherside like a bat. I really put the power ON.[/quote'] Did you honestly have that roast chicken in your top/shorts/wherever the whole race ? There are other ways of keeping food warm ... like buying it afterwards. I was going to ask if it was free range or raised on Cytomax
  2. Put a notice on the City Cycling Club website. The helmet was found by the club gazebo correct ?
  3. It was a full moon too ... would've made a fun night ride !
  4. .... so there we were, sitting under the City Cycling Club gazebo at the Rollercoaster race finish, when Cytomax arrives fresh from the finish line area, complimentary Coke in hand, sits down on a chair, zips down his race top, and pulls out a complete Spar roast chicken, still in the packet, and then a brown packet with some rolls in it. WTF !?! I don't even want to know the rest of the details !
  5. The last time I tried riding there the Gautrain construction works seemed to have spoiled the landscape. I'm not sure what it looks like 2 years later though. The guards wouldn't let you into the reserve itself though, so a hole in the fence had to be found, and we never quite found the right one There are quite a few members of Team Edenglen that meet up on Saturdays and ride the single tracks in the Sizwe/Linksfield area, and then out behind Eastleigh towards and around Modderfontein and back. PM hubbers CAAD4 or laulil though, as they are part of this group.
  6. I bought a 585 Origin over 3 years ago. I too was concerned over the brand, as it's seldom you see them around, but it gave such a comfortable ride that my mind was made up. A year and a half later during a service it was discovered that the BB insert was working loose from the carbon shell [and this after about 14,000Km of riding]. There was no quibble from the local agent to replace it with a brand new 2009 585 frame. They also included the new series seat post for the new frame at no charge [naturally the old one was returned with the old frame]. I must also add that when I bought the original frame I registered it on the Look manufacturers website. Also, when I needed a new chain-stay protective sticker they posted one to me at no charge. So, I've had nothing but good service from the local agent, who is also very active on The Hub as MR LOOK.
  7. Road Traffic Act Regulation 207 (2) states: " No person shall ride or be a passenger on a pedal cycle on a public road unless he or she is wearing a protective helmet which fits him or her properly and of which the chinstrap is properly fastened under the chin"
  8. This issue has been the subject of many a warm Hub thread. I often see riders in the Western Cape riding without helmets, rarely in club kit though. Despite the fact that it is the law to wear a helmet, my opinion has always been that it is up to the rider whether to wear a helmet whilst training or social riding. It's a very stupid decision though, as anybody who's broken a helmet in a fall can attest to. You also won't get very far on most club rides if you attempt to ride without a helmet. Riding without a helmet whilst in club kit is sure to convey the wrong message about safety and the law, especially when it's a sponsored pro team. It's a double fault when the sponsor is a major healthcare organisation. If you feel like doing something then perhaps direct your message to the Medscheme Team via www.teammedscheme.co.za .
  9. PM Caad4 or laulil . They ride around this area in the early morn. Also visit www.team-edenglen.com to join a good bunch of riders close by.
  10. David, have you asked your vascular surgeon/specialist for advice ? Your problem could stem from any number of causes I would imagine.
  11. To Team Edenglen at the 94.7 for their hospitality !! You won't find many clubs that are as organised at events, and with better than average camaraderie. Every time I travel up to Jozi from the Cape I join their club rides, and it's always good fun with great people. Thanks Ozzie, Riaan, Tony, Laurie, Derek, Mark to mention a few names ....
  12. Your best bet is www.team-edenglen.com .
  13. didn't you do this a few years ago in Worcester and then you didn't have the energy to ride back to CT and they announced over the pa that you looking for a lift. how u getting back this year? He rode back We saw David coming into Rawsonville as we were heading towards the town in the vets bunch. Saw him at the finish' date=' and all he was worried about was carrying all his stuff back with him ! So he was looking for a lift again .. just for his "stuff" .. then had an offer to ride back to CT with Danny Schmeisser [he was going back via Bainskloof'] but the distance wouldn't allow him time enough to get back to CT in time for work ! So rode back alone I'm guessing via Du Toitskloof. Bonkers I tell you .. and he wasn't worried about leaving his bike alone at the finish, as nobody would dare steal "that" bike . David, you're a legend ! Keep it rollin'
  14. Why can't the Std Bank Club commitee approach another significant club [such as C/Lab] with an attractive offer to take over memberships ? Just a thought ... seems a waste to not try. Didn't the Harmony Club go through a similar issue some years back ?
  15. Send frail a PM . He's done this type of distance riding a few times .. Jhb to Cape Town in 3 days, and then Argus 2009 twice a few days later ! .. Cape Town to Knysna in around 25/6Hr's, Knysna Argus, and then back, etc.
  16. David finally got his bike back !! Got an SMS from him to say thanks to everyone. I'll wait for him to add some details to this saga when he goes online ....
  17. Free bump for you David.
  18. Just got David's SMS now . Perhaps this guy will try all the flea markets in that area over the weekend, so keep a lookout.
  19. Free Bump .. while you're sitting in the traffic tomorrow please keep an eye out for this bike that might be on the road somewhere. Not a difficult bike to spot.
  20. In my experience Conti Ultra Sports are very soft, and not very puncture resistant. They're a good choice for a value-added item on most entry level road bikes though. Tyre liners also seem to be more hassle than they're worth. Conti Gatorskins, or similar puncture resistant specific tyres, inflated to near max pressure, are the answer. No solution is going to be "puncture proof" though. Also, try not riding on the extreme left of the road shoulder if you can help it, as this is where all the puncture causing crud accumulates.
  21. I will keep a lookout for your bike David. Got your SMS. Sorry to hear about this.
  22. SeanMort

    Stupid!!

I've also had my turn with those same railway lines, in a gusting S/Easter. 1x new Bell helmet later, concusion, and wiser for the experience. Hope the break heals quickly.
  23. PM MadMarc or laulil .. or go to www.team-edenglen.com and ask via their contacts page. SeanMort2009-07-27 09:21:37
  24. Windguru says Sat morn has a chance of light rain, but I'll probably ride from the Edgemead sportsfields. Sun looks like some heavy rain but Windguru is not too accurate .. so we'll see.
