  1. Oh alright I was one of the 3 guys you joined up with - with the De Rosa Kit & yellow helmut.... small world Small world indeed ... a while after we left you guys to go back to Edenvale my front wheel finally went flat. The damn thing was bugging me for a while ! The other guy riding with me is also a hubber' date=' Laulil, and when we stopped in Modderfontein for a coffee we met up with MichaelH who came across town [in his car, but still using crutches']. I'll look out for you guys next time as we ride those roads often.SeanMort2008-02-04 01:23:14
  2. Yep that was me in Std Bank kit on the Look. The guy without the helmet was wearing Barlow World kit. I'm sure he's a nice guy but something about him says here comes trouble
  3. We joined a bunch of guys on a road ride going out to Irene and back yesterday and there was a care-free guy in the bunch riding with no helmet, no gloves, no bar tape, on a bike with Campy Bora's and didn't look like he even needed his smaller gears as I certainly didn't see him changing too many gears ! This guy had helluva strong looking legs, but his demeanour said approach with caution, so I didn't see anybody challenge him [he looked like he could ride away from us all, and there were some strong guys in the bunch]. We stopped in Irene for a Coke and clearly he had an attitude when talking to the other cyclists. What a crazy dude ! Anybody know who this guy is ?
  4. .. forgot to add that the bottled Motorex I have is the wet lube version, but it's still better that W/Lightning. Agree though that it's application is a bit messy and you do tend to overlube because the stuff comes out the bottle like a ruptured vein.
  5. ..... or R2D2 . The way that some of the traffic lights have been put into red flashing mode recently you had better be careful that the armed response vans don't mistake you for a "robot" ... sorry, forgot, like some of us they don't stop for lights
  6. Agree about White Lightning not being that good. I'm also using Motorex, but the bottle version which wastes a bit. I'm certainly going to get the spray can version though.
  7. Just watch out for falling engines
  8. Perhaps call Johnson Cycles in Edenvale (011) 453 9586 and ask them, or ask JHB MTB Club at www.jmbc.org.za . There are two or three of us that usually ride Mtb in Edenvale on Sat's from 06:00 starting at Linksfield Shopping Centre riding out to Modderfontein and back (approx. 40Km's). We also ride road on Sunday's from 06:30 starting at Centre of the Earth Nursery and Coffee Shop in Modderfontein. Depending on the riders that arrive we do between 50 - 100Kms @ 26ave (or more depending on rider ability). Then during the week we ride road Tue/Wed/Thurs starting from 5am at the garage in Senderwood [opposite Saheti School]. Distances around 30 - 35Km, and routes vary, but mostly include Sylvia's Pass somewhere in the ride. It's usually just over an hours ride though for those that still have to get back home and get ready to go to work.
  9. Yippee...Yip' date=' i'll be strong as an ox by then I have one person to work with!! ...anymore around??? [/quote'] Yep. I'm also in H. Anyone else ?
  10. I remember the Lido when I did some army camps at the base around the corner [mid to late 80's]. It was quite cheesy then, and although we were forbidden to go there, it was the only close by spot off base to have a drink [for those brave enough to rumble with the locals that is !].
  11. ... until those plugs go under water, and then they will have no idea . fiasm, I see you're from Oz. Ok, well enough said then
  12. Perhaps Homer would actually do a better job !!
  13. Stringbean ... think you could make up some of these below for 1st of April ?
  14. Thanks ewep, although here in the 'Vale and surrounds I haven't experienced too many hassles with security vehicles. Also watch out for the bread and newspaper vans.
  15. You said it. .... and I'll say it again ... LOOK !!
  16. That experienced American adventurer Steve Fosset went missing in his light aircraft in the beginning of Sept last year and they still haven't found him. These things unfortunately happen, even to the most experienced. There was also a guy [Wooler was his name I think?] that went missing in his light aircraft in the Kalahari desert, and he was found alive after 3 or 4 days, so let's hope they find the plane that went missing in the Southern Cape soon, with pilot alive.
  17. Yep, IDT should do, and enter a winter race or two for motivation so that when you get back you won't have wasted too much of your efforts coming back in winter.
  18. Sent you PM .. to avoid boring hubbers with all the details
  19. Just a slightly different perspective on the subject; when the average person lives on a diet of fast food, and refined/processed foods, the weight factor is the obvious problem to tackle when they decide to improve on their health, and it does help to lose weight, but the hidden factors that are often not considered at the outset of this course of action are high cholesterol, high blood pressure and high blood glucose leading to diabetes and insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is important to weight loss, and the former two conditions will simply kill you in time if not kept in check with an appropriate diet or medication. I would suggest that everybody should know where they stand with these three factors. Please get a quick check on this at your nearest Dischem for around R55, or your GP for a more thorough check. You owe your family that much effort. I've had some very fit friends who have been surprised and concerned at their results despite their great physical condition. It's changed their eating habits forever. I get mine checked every 3 months to be sure where I stand, and it goes hand-in-hand with cycling fitness and especially my eating habits. Three years ago my cholesterol was 8.2 and, as of two weeks back, it's 3.7 ... and with no expensive medication. Check it out, some of you will be surprised !!
  20. Sad news indeed. My condolences to her family and friends.
