  1. It's been mentioned a few times on the Hub to establish some sort of register of stolen bikes where all those affected can register their loss and bike shops can do a quick check. Perhaps admin can explore this further ? On the matter of stolen bikes being used in races, and this is just an idea; Perhaps it's possible, at the cost of one, to hide a registered timing chip [ie CC or WT] in/on a bike and see if it's used in races. Perhaps it's also possible to enlist the help of these timing company's to come up with a suitable product for tracking stolen bikes at races. An distinct audible alert if the bike goes over a finish line would do ! Just an idea.
  2. ... and that poor back tyre looks the worse for all the weight it has to carry.
  3. The Easton's are very good wheels. I lent a set of Orion II's for two months and, although I'm not in the heavy weight category, they performed well. You should be able to pick up a set for around R5,000 - R6,000 depending on condition.
  4. I see Robbie Kempson and Tiaan Strauss are also still out there ...
  5. Umm .. you did have a broken spoke though the night before Argus Does that count ?
  6. Normally an attorney that specialises in this type of claim. They would take a percentage of the claim as a fee I think. Some years back my son got T-boned on his motorbike in Edenvale by a Chinese woman and we claimed from RAF. He sustained a slight neck and arm injury, and his 125 was history. It took about a year but we got about R11k back from RAF. You should claim, seriously. Anyone know an attorney ?
  7. Maar ewep' date=' jy is dan die founding member. [/quote'] Nee ek is nie want ek het nog nie my BONUS van 'n paar miljoen gekry nie. Well if you haven't already done so, you could try your luck on a Road Accident Fund claim for all the trauma you suffered recently. Might be worth a few ZAR's.
  8. Jissie' date=' I think he has paid enough now!!!! Will he for ever be remembered just for this?!?! [/quote'] Precisely....what do you think Hansis Cronje will be remembered for? His swashbuckling century against England? I think Not!! And that's so f-ed up me thinks!!!! The guys paid their dues..... Or are pro like Hansie and Jan not like us permitted to be forgiven? Well Hansie's movie is coming out soon [www.hansiemovie.com] so maybe it will alter people's perceptions/feelings. Maybe Ulrich should consider a movie deal. Any takers on a title for this ?
  9. MR Look - does this mean that I'll have to get a re-appraisal of my 585 for insurance purposes ? What should a person normally do in circurcumstances where the insured item increases in value due to forex ?
  10. When being taught Afrikaans at school, as it was compulsory, I really didn't like the language. In hindsight this reaction had a lot to do with the fact that I hated anything that was deemed "compulsory", and wasn't really aimed at the language. The reality of learning Afrikaans really struck home when I was "encouraged" to do so in the SADF. Talk about motivation by intimidation !! Now I enjoy the fact that I can converse in Afrikaans when required. Quite often I attend customer meetings with my boss, who did not learn Afrikaans as he was schooled in the then Rhodesia, and these meetings are held almost entirely in Afrikaans [even though our customer is the Today,Tomorow, Together crowd]. My boss has no choice to sit there looking silly while the banter and detail goes over his head. The annoying thing though, is having to translate all the time !!
  11. Aaah' date=' remember the days... Are there still underaged hookers on every corner?[/quote'] Probably not, but it seems that everyone there wants to be a traffic cop ! Driving back to Jozi on Monday morning I got stopped just outside Beaufort West in a "routine stop" where it seems that they were only stopping cars with bikes. The TCS van & trailer were also stopped while I was there and busy collecting their fine [for what I don't know].
  12. I remember last years Nola race .. the wind on the Tarlton stretch wasn't fun. It was demoralising to ride into. This is one race that I will defintely skip this year. Bad memories !! Let's hope the Argus weather behaves.
  13. On the road for training - mostly yes, but low volume and sometimes turned off when the riding allows for conversation. I can still hear vehicles coming up behind me with no problem. Quite often I hear them before my ride partners who don't ride with music players. Mostly listen to upbeat tempo music and some of my favourite Boston tracks [i'm a big fan]. Also some Metallica, Def Leppard & AC/DC. During races - never. MTB'ing - never.
  14. My Airone saddle now has more 5000Km of use and it really is comfortable ... but you have to break it in [as they say, give it a few more weeks]. What I found critical was the setting of the height as this determined comfort [for me anyway].
  15. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm As to the extent of the shaving' date=' I believe that we're now approaching what could be referred to as a target-rich environment for "TMI" or too much information. It suffices to say, those places where: a) road rash would be a factor or, b) where post-ride-related muscle massage is administered are good. That pretty much negates the need to drag the razor into the nether regions. Having said that it may of course have nothing to do with cycling .........[/quote'] .... or perhaps it's uncomfortable when the "propeller" gets caught in the "reeds"
  16. Couldn't agree more with Coolheat being Tops !! Over the past few weeks I've been trying to sort out an issue with my Dura Ace rear hub, and then between Steven and Corrie they sourced a 2nd hand replacement hub at no cost to me. How's that for customer service ? Hard to beat ... I must also make a huge note of mention to Johnson's Cycles who loaned me a wheelset during this issue. These guys give excellent service SeanMort2008-02-14 01:31:51
  17. Forget about the live bands and DJ's, M&B better come to the party with lots of free coffee. Now if it was sponsored by Sedgwicks OBS it could make things a lot more pleasant, and that drop-off would really live up to its name .
  18. Std Bank guys are Ian Martin & Chris Frankiskos - they won their tandem category. Ian had the honour of MC'ing the prizegiving and then giving himself a prize !!
  19. There's also the Edenglen Cycle Club. Their website is http://team-edenglen.com/ . I don't ride with them but see them often on the road. They meet at the Karaglen Virgin Active @ 6am Sat/Sun's.
  20. Brings tears to the eyes . 1Km to the top with no place to recover and then turn around at the end and come zooming down minding the potholes.
  21. OK .. you mean Linksfield Drive not Linksfield Avenue, then in that case it wasn't me. Linksfield Drive starts off as Bedford Road I think.
  22. Could've been me. I was going down Linksfield at that time and then up toward Senderwood. My son was waiting for me at the bottom of Linksfield at Elm St crossing. Had my front strobe light on and was in Std Bank kit. Were you coming up Linksfield toward Edenvale ?
  23. Searched the Hub for him and judging by the threads in reference to him I now "understand" .. Cycling's own Bart Simpson.
  24. Horse Steroids and Brake Fluid will do that to you...
  25. spiky hair? Seems like he's grown his hair a bit then, but Mr McPhisto confirms it was OB . You guy's talk about him as if he's a celebrity
