  1. Yep .. plenty pics on www.actionphoto.co.za. Are you worried this might be you ? http://www.actionphoto.co.za/showidentify.aspx?pth=raceimages/94-7-08/large\94-7-082120347\DSC_0746.JPG&imageid=6763049&IDENTid=8915371&unid=true
  2. http://www.news24.com/News24/South_Africa/News/0,,2-7-1442_2426195,00.html This story makes me question the sanity of some parents ! What were they thinking buying a 4 year old a quad bike in the first place !?! .. and then not even considering the matter of the helmet. Poor kid. Christmas is a time for kids to play and have fun, not to lie in a hospital bed with an uncertain fate. I'll pray he's ok.
  3. During Gerhards interval session at Killarney yesterday afternoon there were some overzealous riders shouting "hold your line" around the bends, when they were clearly the ones who should hold a line. On the last lap one of them took out another rider in a reckless effort of line intruding ... they totally missed the point of an interval session too.
  4. Also my first time on Wed. Had a fun TT ride after a while with a youngster on a Bianchi getting a free tow on my wheel for quite a few laps My bike's BB shell is cracked so every pedal stroke was a nervous one. Even though the Lab guys epoxyed the BB insert back in it doesn't feel right. Now waiting for a new frame from Look, but will be there on Wed again for my next gentle TT ride.
  5. I have the same problem on my Scott MC-50 [Alu frame]. I've checked the frame and suspension for cracks etc but find nothing that's visible. I'll get the BB checked out when I get it put together again [it's still in a packing box after my move to Cape Town, and the road is my focus for the DC].
  6. Talk about bonking on the bike !
  7. Interesting stuff ! I'm all for the technological "shift" but it's not green friendly anymore . I also forsee wheel dynamo's making a come-back for those unscheduled on-the-fly re-charges It'll be interesting to see the accessories arising out of this ...
  8. Doing my bit to make you smile .... Here are 12 of the finest double-entendres that were aired on British TV & Radio <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> 1. Pat Glenn, weightlifting commentator - "And this is Gregoriava from <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Bulgariaon>. I saw her snatch this morning and it was amazing!" 2. New Zealandon> Rugby Commentator - "Andrew Mehrtens loves it when Daryl Gibson comes inside of him." 3. Ted Walsh - Horse Racing Commentator - "This is really a lovely horse. I once rode her mother." 4. Harry Carpenter at the Oxford-Cambridge boat race 1977 - "Ah, isn't that nice. The wife of the Cambridge President is kissing the Cox of the Oxford crew." 5. USon> PGA Commentator - "One of the reasons Arnie (Arnold Palmer) is playing so well is that, before each tee shot, his wife takes out his balls and kisses them ..... Oh my g#d!! What have I just said??" 6. Carenza Lewis about finding food in the Middle Ages on 'Time Team Live' said: "You'd eat beaver if you could get it." 7. A female news anchor who, the day after it was supposed to have snowed and didn't, turned to the weatherman and asked, "So Bob, where's that eight inches you promised me last night?" Not only did HE have to leave the set, but half the crew did too, because they were laughing so hard! 8. Steve Ryder covering the USon> Masters: "Ballesteros felt much better today after a 69 yesterday." 9. Clair Frisby talking about a jumbo hot dog on Look North said: "There's nothing like a big hot sausage inside you on a cold night like this." 10. Mike Hallett discussing missed snooker shots on Sky Sports: "Stephen Hendry jumps on Steve Davis's misses every chance he gets." 11. Michael Buerk on watching Phillipa Forrester cuddle up to a male astronomer for warmth during BBC1's UKon> eclipse coverage remarked: They seem cold out there, they're rubbing each other and he's only come in his shorts." 12. Ken Brown commentating on golfer Nick Faldo and his caddie Fanny Sunneson lining-up shots at the Scottish Open: "Some weeks Nick likes to use Fanny, other weeks he prefers to do it by himself.
  9. Compact cranks are easier on the legs for hilly rides, but if you want some speed on flatter rides then it gets more difficult using them. Depends on the rider and the ride. Just search on the Hub, there is a thread on compact cranks and a gear ratio chart somewhere.

  11. Finally ! A thread that's conveyed the "human touch" more than others I've read of late. Well done rad006, and all the others that made a difference to this young mans life !! Off-topic now rad006; since my move to the Cape I haven't caught sight of any feedback with your new "transmission". Did it work out for the Jock ?
  12. I would love to have read his thought balloon at that moment. Just needs some tips from Greg Minaaar and he'll be able to take those "short cuts" with ease. He's certainly going to get noticed for his efforts thus far though. Good effort he's putting in for his first Tour. The big names will be watching out for him now.
  13. These riders don't seem to realise the impact their cheating ways have on their team mates and their families, their own families, their sponsors & managers, and most of all, the sport of cycling. The loss of earnings for all, and the disgrace they face. They so believe their own cr#p that they will then spend untold $$$$'s to prove their "innocence", just to be pasted by lawyers and doctors. They just don't get it It won't change in a hurry though. It seems to be a game of playing against the odds of being tested. I do believe that not all riders cheat, but then I also believe that not all passengers that get off a flight from Brazil are drug mules. Some do, some don't. It's impractical and expensive to test everyone, everyday of a stage race.
  14. Certainly not if it's a hockey game . Have you joined Eddie & Glen's training sessions ? I didn't see you down there the few times I went. I managed to put in a game there a few weeks before I moved down to the Cape. Still love it, and may decide to play some vet's hockey down here if they have a league running. Enjoy the riding.
  15. Credit Card + Budget = Bike I think that finance packages for bikes are going to become more popular, but the insurance companies won't like this too much.
  16. I'd like anybody, be it motorist or fellow cyclist, to challenge OB on the East Rand about his no helmet wearing habit. The entertainment value alone would be worth selling tickets and lots of popcorn ! You see, some people don't really care what people think. Let them just get on with their life.
  17. Well last night my elderly parents-in-law were busy playing bingo in the hall with other residents of the Dickie Fritz Moth Retirement community in Edenvale, and to their shock they were suddenly held up by two "pdi's" with firearms. These thugs proceeded to strip these old folk of all things valuable and sentimental; wedding rings, cellphones, money etc. These elderly folk are most certainly not wealthy, nor are they capable of putting up any meaningful resistance, although a lot of them saw service for their country in the decades gone by. What could possibly be more frightening to these people than being held up at gunpoint ! My parents-in-law are absolutely distraught, as are the other affected residents. It appears the perpetrators gained access to the community from the back, over a fence that faces the Linksfield veld. This fence is in very poor shape and the residents don't have the funds to erect a new one. If anyone wishes to contribute materials, funds, or time to assist these people I'm sure it would be greatly appreciated. PM me if you can. Thanks
  18. Page 134 of the latest Ride magazine .. nice pic of the Drizit [Team Edenglen] Cape Epic duo of Dom & Nic in high spirits at the finish.
  19. Imagine if one tried to buy a certain brand of watch with their petrol card ...
  20. Probably less punctures but no guarantee's. More of a hassle factor with liners in my opinion. Slime gets you out of most puncture situations.
  21. I'll vouch for the Team Edenglen crowd It's the one thing I miss since moving to Cape Town. Now to find a similar crowd down here ...
  22. I believe that www.tbimages.co.za will have it [when it's loaded up].
