  1. Damn......second bowl of Popcorn is just ready....
  2. I am such a looser, I dont have a bond to pay anymore and I ride a 20K bike in R500 bibs.........I am going to slit my wrists......
  3. Um not all participants are.....Yes, I am over 35 but rode Epic in 2012 on a R20k bike in R500 bibs and kicked alot of Spez riding Assos wearings butts.....but hey who cares what others are riding or wearing? Next year I will be back with the same bike and most probably the same brand bibs......
  4. Dude, thats far to techy for mountain bikers, we fit and forget and do the regular maintenance, thats it.....
  5. I wouldnt equate the cost of an Epic entry to forking out R3k for bibs.......
  6. Oh fek, just realised I own AVIDS........ A set of digit 5 v-brakes on my single speed and they are fantastic. About 100x better than any of their disc brakes....
  7. Just ride what keeps you backside comfy. I have never ridden in ASSOS and doubt weather I ever will. My Velotex red have never let me down at R500 bucks a pair....
  8. Avids are great if you want to see if there is life after death.....
  9. AVID is crap. sorry for the language. I had Avids fail going down Breedts on a test bike without warning. I dont need any more reason than that. I have a set of new ispec SLX brakes on my bike. 8000km later incl an Epic and 2 sets of metal pads and 1 full hose bleed is the full extent of maintenance. I rest my case.
  10. why exactly would you want to do this, even if it could be done?
  11. now that you've said what I I was thinking........... . Race announcer said 75km my garmin gave me 74.9km. Spot on advendurance. Anyway when you've only climbed around 200m at the 30km, you know there is K@K coming.......
  12. hahaha, a real mtb experience! I know a guy who collected a hog coming home off Breedts.............the pig walked away, tough buggers.
  13. I cant believe how much much mountain biking has changed in the 3 years I have been riding. 3 years ago, guys would arrive at an event for a good time, results were secondary, if even that. Guys would chat on the trails, help wherever possible and respect every rider of every abillity and between all that give it fullgazzz. What has gone wrong? Since when does finishing 2 or 3 minutes faster matter because of slower riders on the trail. Who really gives a rats ass? What has happend to the soul of mountain biking?
  14. I thought that overall it was an excellent event. No parking issues, great start chutes that worked perfectly and the route was a real mountain bike route, although I would of loved a bit more single track. I loved it. I had to have a little giggle to myself to see how fast the guys burnt the 1st 30km and were dragging themselves close to death by 65km. Maybe they learnt a little about pacing themselves. I started the 70km in C and when we came across the 20km and 40km riders they really weren't to bad at all and moved over when asked politely to do so. Anyway it was good skill practice to bob and weave around the backmarkers. Who cares if you loose maybe 2 minutes max moving through the backmarkers? . Considering that around 3000 riders took to those trails, well done to the organisers, I had a blast and will be back. PS, The commentator did say the race was 75km while he was briefing us and to those complaining it was 5km more than advertised, be thankful you got 7.5% extra value.
  15. The stripping is a piece of cake with this stuff. Powder coating is dirt cheap if you just want one colour. Around R100 - R150 for std colours. so you could strip and powder coat for under R250.
  16. nice pedals......
  17. Oh yes, make sure you get the 2.2 not 2.1. 2.1 are too skinny and the 2.2's higher volume allow for lower running pressures.
  18. If you're riding TB the IKON's no question, super light and roll like slicks. I have had them on my bike for about 2 months and I cant praise them enough. Some guys say they dont have enough grip but I suspect theier pressures are too high. I run mine at 1.6 bar and they are FAR superior to the crossmarks. We did some serious terrain 2 weeks ago. At the end of the ride I pulled out 6 huge thorns (2 front and 4 back) sealed up straight away with batseal. Best tyre I have ever used. Wont be great in mud due to close tread pattern. Buy them, at this price they are a steal.
  19. Go SLX.....shiftiing is the same but the weight adds up. SLX lasts forever...if youre running XT def SLX
  20. I have done a few but for the most chilled vibe and superb riding 3 Towers is tops closely followed by Berg and Bush Descent. Day 1 of berg and Bush is, in my humble opinion, the best single day of riding I have done in my life. too many races, too little time.....
  21. As far as I understand it the camera rule is for safety. They do not say you cant use a camera, they just say you cant use it on your body. There have been plenty serious injuries when some dumbass tries to start his go-pro on his helmet which he cant see and he takes too long to fell for the shutter button. if its on your bars its a simple push of a button like your garmin. No issue with cameras on the bars. anyone know any better?
  22. already given the R100 bucks to Maroesjka......
  23. It is more expensive than a ziplock bag but have you seen the damage all the bits do to each other after a month or 2?? This keeps everything apart and its really fast to find anything you need. Worth every cent. If I rememebr it was just over 200 zumas.I put my own stronger levers in it. I bought an empty one and put my own tools in it.
  24. never use a saddle bag or camelback...... But found a really cool LEZYNE wallet that keeps everything I need in a easy to find place, no more scrathcing in a ziplock bag. I keep the wallet in my shirts middle pocket. Its Very compact. I use the "phone pouch" for all the small bits on my list. In it is the following: http://www.bikerumor.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Lezyne-Smart-Wallet-Loaded-stock.jpg Small Lube Multi Tool plier - extra small Bike Tool 2 Tyre levers Quicklink 4 small Cable Ties Valve Core and Removal tool Gator Tool and Plugs Glueless patches Bomb and inflator Spare dropout R100 I have a spare 29er tube taped to my seatpost. its a lot of stuff but I have NEVER been screwed when something went wrong and I am carrying a small pouch with everything i could ever need on a ride.
  25. Donation done....... every drop fills a bucket...
