  1. Saw the pics, pretty gruesome, and I had offered to plane that timber for him... I sprained a thumb when the table saw decided to bite, and kick back the piece of wood I was cutting this weekend. Accidents happen quickly, be safe in the workshop guys!
  2. My women's day build, built as a display rack for the salon that my wife frequents. Took a little longer than just women's day, finishing was time consuming, the finish reminds me of well worn denim.
  3. Just checking, does this count? The packaging says it does... [emoji849][emoji12]
  4. Just a note, Crating is not WOS, it is kiln dried, else you would not be able to use it for crates/packaging for export, as export packaging must carry an ISPM15 mark, and this requires that the timber is heat treated. The grading of Crating vs Industrial Grade vs Select Grade vs Semi-Clear vs Clear is determined by wane, knots (loose knots, tight knots, etc.), blue, etc.
  5. I only use them in a drill press, because of the drifting. As for overheating, try drilling holes in Perspex with them...
  6. More nutty/cocoa than spicy, but yeah, best guess is Walnut, making a wine bottle holder. Interesting bit of useless info, the top of a screw top wine bottle is 3mm bigger than the cork type tops, and does not fit into a 30mm hole.
  7. Drilled some holes in this piece of wood, still don't know what it is (best guess is Walnut), it was a dunnage block that was between 2 bundles of Meranti. It drills beautifully, smooth as butter, you can hear the difference when the bit reaches the Pine underneath.
  8. Sell it to a consortium of Pig farmers, who use it for bedding for the pigs, between our 2 factories we do about 800 bags a day.
  9. 32x18 is a good place to start, maybe even a 17, and take it from there!
  10. The juice also needs to be worth the squeeze. I wasn't happy with some of the planks on the picnic benches I built the other day, they had some bow in them, causing unevenness in the ends, but when I reminded myself of where and how they will be used, I was ok with the imperfection. The customer is also very happy, and has ordered 2 more.
  11. Made a new bed for the "inside dogs", as they ripped their foam bed to shreds, so they had to pose in the new bed...!
  12. The dogs like their bed...
  13. My Daccordi track bike is for sale... https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/258676-track-bikes/
  14. Was asked to make a dog bed on casters, so decided to make 2, as our daschunds have ripped theirs to pieces. Had some tongue and groove flooring rejects in the garage, so used that. The interesting part about this story is the finish. Tried the aging/weathering technique again, came out quite nice. New Pine: "Aged", half Woodoc'ed, half still raw: The bed: Wife will sort the bedding, and I must still put the casters on. Quite a nice technique though!
  15. I want one of these: https://www.inventables.com/technologies/x-carve
  16. My parents are moving house, so picked up my first race bike (what's left of it), stripped off the bits, an interesting mix of components: Short stem...
  17. This made its way into my garage...: It's needing some work, but all of the important bits are there. First job is to sort this hack job with something a little safer: The rear brake set-up is quite interesting, there are 2 brakes, 1 for the stoker!
  18. It found its way into the garage last weekend, covered in neglect, needs a bit of love to get it back on the road. It's a really cool old bike though. Can't wait to get it sorted, and then convince one of the riding buddies to stoke!
  19. Confirmed this morning, all timber must be fumigated if it goes over border, even to the SADC countries.
  20. My weekend project, picnic tables for the tennis club.
  21. As far as I know, yes...
  22. This popped up on Facebook, I know there are a few guys on here who would be interested....
  23. A family friend asked me to make an oversized Jenga set for her coffee shop's play area, so because I could make 4 boxes out of a sheet of plywood, I made 4 sets, which have all subsequently been booked/sold/given away, and I'm having to make more, so I'm building boxes this weekend...
