  1. How much is a beer over there? Like a typical Heineken 330ml
  2. Some shops manage to negotiate these kinds of situations so both parties leave feeling a fair deal has been done, whether it's at no charge or not, others make you feel like a skelm for expecting an item may be covered under some kind of warranty. Has anyone confirmed if the failure should have been covered by a warranty?
  3. Great news, did the stuff that was advertised here and on gumtree that looked liked it was from your bike turn out to be true?
  4. That's a lot of bike for R30k. Like the way all the budget Giants get giant dropper posts but the upper ranges get RS Reverb posts, the Giant posts aren't too bad?
  5. How does the ISO width affect the rim and the way the tyre mounts, ie wider being better? Because the Flow Ex is only 1.1mm wider than std Flow but on the ISO side it's 2.9mm wider, so basically the tyre will mount wider as the mounted width(at the bead hook)will be a fair bit wider than the normal Flows or is it just that the bead hook groove is deeper?
  6. Pictures or it didn't happen, come on! Videos as well, must be a few Gopros out there...
  7. Hope you okes are having a jol! What's the news, gossip, amount of brakes pads worn out, frames cracked, aching ribs...
  8. Vat at 15.4% and around R150 customs inspection fee, not sure what handling fee you are referring to?
  9. Hahaha I thought Astana was some east European truck brand or budget car make like a SEAT.
  10. Interesting question that, If the internals are the same there is a chance that similar model stanchions from different wheel size forks will be compatible, essentially it's the the lowers that define the wheel size, the amount of stanchion needed for say 100mm fork would remain the same no matter the wheel size.
  11. That's called a dome nut, pretty much run of the mill nut, a good industrial supply store/fastners shop will have them in various metals, incl s/s. I'm pretty sure I have some in my box of bits, you can glady have it if you pay the postage, or collect if you are in George. Pm me if you are keen.
  12. Buying from a longstanding hub member, I suppose preferably with many posts, should be fine. That definitely is a good motivation for Matt to make a minimum post count of say 100 posts obligatory before being able to sell in the classifieds. Posting reveals a bit of the users character and you at least have something that you can use to judge whether the person is genuine or not. Also there'll be more info avail like ip addresses etc if the guy goes rogue and needs to be tracked down.
  13. I've tried ATF gearbox lube, which is very close to the viscosity of FL wet lube, in my Hope freehubs, appeared to work perfectly. Do you use that in hub bearings ever? I'm pretty keen to give that a try, especially on Hope hubs which have such a good sealing system so there's not much chance of bearing washout, should reduce rolling resistance marginally vs fully packing them with grease.
  14. Any one have statistics as to how many bikes are getting stolen in the greater Capetown area per week now? Must be reaching quite epic proportions, the thing that I want to know is where are they are going, bikes especially expensive ones aren't household goods like Tv's/fridges etc that everybody needs, the market for 2hnd bikes of dodgy origins can't be that big?
  15. Is the Chris king grease for their hub bearings? Looks like it is more like a liquid lube than a grease, interesting, I have noticed bearings well packed with grease does add some "friction" definitely slows a wheel done/doesn't spin as freely.
  16. That's clever repurposing, thanks for the headsup I normally use 30ml syringes, I don't fix bikes everyday though
  17. Love those electric blue bars, how much are they?
  18. ^^ Lbs that sold the bike with shock or shock on its own should be paying the shipping fees/delivery to get a warranted part repaired, not the customer? If an lbs expects that then it makes sense to rather order online in the first place as there is little advantage shopping at the lbs, maybe it's just some lbs that take a chance like that?
  19. If you purchased the crank from a shop and returned it to the shop then the courier fees are for the shops account/or their supplier not yours, making you pay is just passing the buck, not cool. If it is a online store warranty claim its your responsibility to get it to them and back, as the store is the place of purchase but I have also heard speculation that maybe just getting it there is enough and the store must cover getting it back to you, not sure though, may be store specific on that one.
  20. I vote give the buyer R250 back for the exorbitant courier fees, maybe someone made a mistake in accounts, then give him back R500 for the crank not as supplied and the cost of the missing washer he was forced to incur, his wasted time and frustration can be written off to school fees. Something can be rescued in this deal.
  21. Good point you've brought up, why was the guy charged R500 for courier delivery on a lightweight XO crank? And the delivery wasn't even next day nogal And considering it was the shops fault for sending damaged goods I'm assuming the shipping both ways is for the sellers account, unless that is they are going to be honest about this whole thing and actually send a new/unused crank once the damaged one is returned?
  22. Good point, hopefully you have enough experience or know someone who can come with. Some okes do sell bikes only at the end of their life cycle, worn drivetrain and suspension, you'd be buying expensive looking but pretty useless heap. I've been caught before, taken to the cleaners, almost everything needed replacing. But the next bike I knew better and I got a very fair deal, my stead is well looked after and still going like a champ after much use.
  23. I've looked before, found a few who would ship to Sa, maybe try different part numbers and keywords when searching. I also look on eBay.co.uk and .com
  24. The key is to buy a 2hnd bike that's already upgraded to the tilt, like many 26ers are, guys just jumping over to the next best thing after spending a fortune over the yrs on the "old" 26er. For around R10-12k you can get a full sus 26er fully kitted that would probably have retailed for R30-40k when new. Plenty of them in the classifieds, it's ridiculous.
  25. eBay has plenty of them, not too expensive
