    Argus 2014

Forgot to say that I hope everyone I saw crashing recovers well and gets to enjoy to ride again soon. All those injured people post crashed left me feel very somber.. :-( Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but I start thinking about how much it hurts to crash more and more... - the reason why I was terrified until Smitswinkel...

    Argus 2014

took me four years to finally beat 3:30 - out of Q, finished in 3:28. Respect to a friend of mine, Joerg the German, who is 53 years and did a sub 3 in his second Argus after a 4:10 last year.
  4. I have a feeling this fat "cop" is not going to be in his job much longer.
  5. surely somebody must know these guys. and take responsibility to report them.

    Argus 2014

6:56, same seeding as last year, not a single race done this year. Argus is the best training for Argus.
  11. been commuting to CPT CBD for a few weeks now, on a road bike. Get decent tires and you'll be fine. It's just a bitch that I can't bunny hop high enough to get onto pavements..
  12. that 's what I looked like the first time at Killarney.. on a road bike. Was with the peloton for about 8 seconds, and then never saw them again...
  13. I.e. Don't ride your bike, right?
  14. Did a test today. Took my head and rammed it into the wall, no helmet. It hurt like hell. Did the same with a helmet. Didn't hurt as much. Conclusion - will wear helmet.
  15. Funny, tell the story to some none-cycling girlfriends and they all go "oh no, are you OK, can we lick the blood of those wounds". Tell a cycling buddy and it's always "is the bike ok?" first. :-) Bike's fine ;-)
  16. why don't you take your bike on the plane? is that not an option anymore these days?
  17. typical cyclist question... :-) yes, bike's fine. Ego not so much! Didn't I meet you at the top of that route the other day?
  18. I think I wouldn't put myself through months and months of training and then completing an IM for a Tshirt...
  19. Just need to say a big thank you to whoever / whatever looked after me this morning: came down the Deer Park gravel path, over confident, under skilled, and ran out of talent in a long corner after hitting a patch of soft (slippery gravel), got carried to the side, couldn't correct anymore. see the skid mark in the pic (bottom right), hit the small rock, and from there I don't remember much. Ended up lying behind the big rock, on my back, with my head on another rock. Shoulders sore, ribs sore, not a scratch... So here is to a day of thankfulness.. pheeew.
  20. reminds me of a school trip long time ago, in Istanbul - my teacher, then a 55 year old man, crosses the road, gets almost taken out by a mini bus. He walks to the side of the car, with one swift movement removes the side mirror, walks to the driver's window and gently places it on the driver's lap. smoothest move ever :-)
  21. drag party outfit or cycling gear...?
  22. that route is going to relax you, Stressed. :-)
  23. Medical aid in this country is a pain in the rear (basically a savings account...) - until hit it badly and spend weeks in hospital. Am on a cheap Discovery plan - and I am still not sure where we would have been R400K hospital bills later..
  24. Reality check: It's just a bike race. Congratulations on your family addition. You will sleep, shag and race again, just give it time.
  25. Tygerberg MTB / Hoogekraal (CPT) - almost rode into caracal and got the fright of my life. These things are big!!
