    Road Hogs

I have a bicycle for about 6 months or so, and in that time did a few long rides in a group. I decided never again, solely based on the way these guys ride - inconsiderate fools, and I hated much of it. I'm now considering selling the road bike for an mtb. Bottom line is that in an accident the big chunk of metal is going to win over the small piece of carbon fibre every single time so why cyclist expect motorists to go out of their way to guarantee cyclists' safety is beyond me. Why not go out of our way to keep ourselves safe?
  2. +1 - I use it when running for chafing, works like a bomb!
  3. Yes it will. It will not be necessary to go to court, instead there will be a Commission that you can approach to resolve the issue at minimal expense, whose ruling will carry legal weight, but shall be appealable (if there is such a word) to a Tribunal (similar to how the Competition Commision works). Rulings here shall have legal standing.
  4. I'm sure I saw a cycle route from Blue Lagoon to Durban beachfront and round the Moses Mabida soccer stadium (where there is a cycle lane on the road).
  5. At least the white on black display looks easier to read than the Garmin variants.
  6. You are right, I stand corrected. I could very well have heard that before the law you refer to was introduced - was some time back. I am sure that 'normal' seatbelts would prove a choking hazard to young kids in an accident - law should be changed to provide for child seats.
  7. Heard on a radio station while they were discussing this: if you don't have a car seat installed, its not illegal to have the kids jump around, but if you do have one installed then it is illegal to have the kids not strapped in, and you can be fined.
  8. Perennial worry for us Muslim hubbers: are these products halaal compatible/certified?
  9. In which case I've just learnt how to crawl. When I grow up...
  10. cape2mecca.blogspot.com I think their Facebook page is called Cape 2 Mecca Cycle
  11. She's a doctor to boot. There are a few female Muslim roadies around.
  12. Wslm There's plenty of us Muslim roadies in Jhb, but few mtb'ers - I knew of just one guy, and he moved to Cape Town! I'm sure and many of us will make the transition at some point. I personally would love to, and to do the journey those two Cape brothers did - they rode all the way to Saudi Arabia for hajj this year! Wow!

    Attack- Hermanus

Really sorry to hear about your dad's incident. I hope he is okay. But I can't help but wonder if it might have been different had he just rode on instead of stopping to confront the guys and telling them what he thought? As it is, he was outnumbered to start with, and it can only go downhill from there.
  14. The tubes feel deflated on sock island coz they get into fights where they get kicked around and can't roll with the 'punctures'
  15. I have wanted a pair for a few months now, and wud also love an honest opinion, though I don't intend running in them. And the new designs on the website look so much better than the multicolour ones that were available until not so long ago.
  16. Experience with 160,000km E Class Merc service - service was R2,600, brakes (front, rear pads and disks) R5,400 - done privately with parts purchased from Merc for less than half that. But the cherry on the cake was to replace two light bulbs - one was R9, the other about R80 - labour for that alone was R180!!! Air flow meter needed replacement at over R3,000, but the service manager told me to get it from Bosch for R800. Get the services done by the agents so they stamp your book (th services aredont cost a kidney), but get the rest done privately with OEM parts.
  17. Yunnan Baiyao - the best thing ever when you have a cramp, pain etc. The red can is used for immediate relief, and the white longer term use. Had the Yunnan guys spray my cramped hamstrings at Two Oceans - worked like a charm! The product has a VERY interesting story behind it - read it on www.yunnan.co.za.
  18. Can't wait to hear what the English media have to say about Russia. No doubt they will be English media enemy number one for the next 8 years.

    Cajees Forways

I did ask a manager at one of their stores about the high prices - he said everyone expects a discount, so they mark their prices up to give a discount! The Cajee's Boksburg guys are great as is their Park Meadows okes (they always get back to me, so no complaints).

    Saris Bones

I've been considering getting a Saris Bones strap-on bike rack. I've read they have a tendency for the 'feet' to scratch paint, and cause indentations in plastic bumpers, but nobody I know has had them for more than a few months. Anyone have long-term experience with these racks that they can share?
  22. I would join in, date dependent.
  23. What is an in excellent condition bike? That depends on whether you are the buyer or seller. But as the other posters said... If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
  24. Tell me about it, lol. Hope you get sorted out real quick.
  25. Hey Moolz, real men run, LOL!!
