  1. Just got the notice - they are investigating opening the track to cyclists, walkers, runners and roller bladers on Sundays between 7 am and 10 am, for R20 per person. Whether it will be open would be dependent on feedback received. If you think you would use the track drop an email to pa@universalproperty.co.za and voice your support.
  2. I would try my chances in the SCC. The fact that he agreed to pay 50% shows some sort of culpability, and your defence could be that you are better off with half than nothing. It will cost you nothing in the SCC, and worse case scenario, is that you end up with what you have now, which is nothing. My opinion is that he knows he was wrong and that since you are not going to sue for a couple of grand or come up to Jhb to knock on his front door, he is safe paying you nothing. Don't leave it, follow it through.
  3. Seems like it was designed for body builders by a muscle guy, so that leaves me sceptical already.
  4. A few months ago there was a similar story on 702 with David O'Sullivan. Same thing, guys had all his details, but there was also some stand-out thing that raised the fund's caution and they called the investor to confirm. Seems like a fairly new type fo scam.
  5. It sucked.
  6. My experience with them has always been positive, especially when the robots at the intersection of Woodlands Drive and Woodmead Drive is down. It always moves smoother when they are around.

If I remember correctly, the transport left Durban beachfront at around 4am last year.
  8. I have a rechargable LED Lenser, think the model number is H7R. I use it as a headlight when doing game drives, and it is often brighter than the lights the game viewing vehicle uses to spot animals. Cost was R550. If you can get a bike mount bracket for that, your wife would be training in lighting conditions almost similar to daylight.
  9. Why sink the ship? If it survived a tsunami intact and then floated for a full year while drifiting all the way across the ocean, surely it must be seaworthy? Or is this just the US wanting to blow stuff up again!
  10. I don't think thats the price of the Pinarello. Thats the price of the Autostyle branded bikes.
  11. DisChem sells it. Works like a bomb
  12. He may as well have said "if it looks like a pigeon and it coo'ed like a pigeon...' because associations for duck go along the lines of lame duck and sitting duck, all are victim-type descriptions, definately not dangerous nuclear duck! Why not use something fearsome in true crowd pleasing rhetoric style, instead of just a duck.
  13. And your bike weighs how much again?
  14. of all the creatures on Earth, why a duck?
  15. If this were turned abit on its head, if you needed to go somewhere on your way back from work occasioanlly, would you be willing to pay extra? If I were in your situation, I'd pay my half.
  16. As cyclist we should understand the implications of a blocked number plate in a hit and run incident, and how vital it would be to tracking the perp down and getting him/her off the road. I would say that cops need to enforce "rolling violations" in that they should be driving around in unmarked cars to find dangerous and wreckless drivers and remove them from the road.
  17. Consider you pay R350 to enter the Comrades marathon. That is just under R4 per km, or, if you take the full 12 hours, 48 cents per minute (@Eugene, this is value for your seconds). It has full road closure. And then there is the "catering" and the medics (stats from 2009): 46 Refreshment Tables 1350 litres of Coke & Cream Soda 350,000 sachets of Powerade 5000 sachets of Mageu 1,100,000 sachets of water 5,4 tons of bananas 448 pockets of oranges 1 ton of Chocolates 2 tons of baby potatoes 400kgs biscuits 400,000 plastic bottles 2500 litter bins 750 tubes of Deep Heat Health care stats: 16 Netcare 911 ambulances equipped with satellite tracking 6 Netcare 911 rapid response vehicles with advanced life support paramedics 4 Netcare 911 motorbikes (quads) with paramedics 1 dedicated helicopter 1 standby helicopter 8 medical first aid stations on route staffed by professional nurses and paramedical staff. These stations incorporate diabetic stations where blood sugar levels can be tested. 8 physio stations on route staffed by qualified physios and 3rd year physio students Medical tent at the finish staffed by 40 doctors and 20 nurses, including a 2-bed fully equipped ICU-type resuscitation unit An emergency resuscitation unit at the finish line St John’s Ambulance tent at the finish to attend to minor discomforts, provide rub downs, strapping and massages Physio tent at the finish Public first aid tent Now that's value for money!!!
  18. How much did it cost, and how long did it take to make?
  19. The name is Yunnan Baiyao. Used it at a running race when I cramped - all I could say was WOW! That stuff works. And it has the most interesting story behind it too... http://www.yunnan.co.za/cat2.php?catID=3
  20. Unbelievable..... http://thechive.com/2012/02/23/girl-tattoos-boyfriend-of-1-week-on-her-arm-a-facebook-thread-ensues-12-photos/
  21. Saris Bones, has a variey of adjustments and will fit easily. I have a two bike one, and I know someone with a three bike rack. Both used from Jhb to Dbn and no problems with stability or any other issues. Only thing is the plastic nuts do tend to start to strip after a while, but they cost like R25 each, and bike shops do stock them.
  22. She could have blinked 100 times and you would not have noticed her blink, even once
  23. I have a similar thing, a consistent numbness in both hands from the pinkie down to the wrist. Have only ridden about 70km all year while focussing on running and it seems to get more pronounced while I run and when I text on my BlackBerry.
  24. I'd support the litter and get DQ'd rule. I personally carry all my stuff with me, and even during road running races will carry my sachets tot he next water point, or throw them in dustbins along the route.
  25. In this case I agree with you, to a point. Had the cyclist died that would be a different story - irrespective of what happened to the bus driver, the cyclist's wife would have had to endure endless heartache for an entirely avoidable situation. Bottom line, in an fight between an 8kg piece of carbon and tons of metal, the cyclist ALWAYS loses. Cyclists need to keep this in mind, one idiot having a bad day could end your life.
