  1. Quite possible, apparently they will be changed as and when maintenance is required on a particular pool. She never mentioned the reason. I would imagine cost?
  2. Virgin Active pools used to have salt water, but I heard from the swim instructor at my gym that they are changing all their pools to chlorine, and all the new VA pools are to be chlorianted pools
  3. Did that oke swimming in the front right also wash off?

    Over priced!

    Communication is priceless
  5. Let me state upfront that I have no affiliation to Cajees whatsoever. People keep saying Cajees is a ripoff, but they are not the only retailer and you are not forced to buy. I read comments on Indian shops, "curry", Oriental Plaza etc., type of business been made here, comments which are made whenever Cajees is discussed, but lets keep in mind that you can negotiate to a price you are happy to pay, or you can leave and support any other store. Lets not forget in 2008 Cycle Lab, Fritz Pienaar Cycles and about 40 other (and it should be said, mostly white-owned) bike shops were accused of colluding to set high prices, prices you would not be able to negotiate on and which would have cost you so much more (they received the attention of the Competition Commission in the process). The minutes went as far as saying they would pressurise the wholesalers to force smaller retailers to keep the prices high. So your "reputable" (white owned) bike shops may have colluded and fixed the prices to rip you off upfront, without your knowledge. Remember that Cajees was not part of that possible collusion.
  6. Wayne, what an act of generosity - good on you!
  7. May be a dumb question, but is it safe for asthmatics to use? Dont want a small amount accidentally getting on me and then almost dying.
  8. What type of snake is this?
  9. Do they only use HR to allocate points, and not distance of events? I generally don't cycle with a HRM, and I never run with one, though I do use my Garmin to track speed and distance for both sports. Do I now need to wear a HRM?
  10. Nenver had bad service from them, always friendly and accomodating.
  11. I answered in the other thread of yours - Google Maps shows it to be a residential area, and Google Street View shows a house that is used as a kids "college" (according to the sign in the front and on the building) - and you can see the kids playing in the front yard. It is not a bike shop.
  12. A Google Maps search shows this to be a residential area. Google Street View shows a board in the front of the building that reads "Junior College" and there are some kids playing in the yard. I don't think anybody bought a bike from there.
  13. I don't know of any group that swims on weekends, except closer to IronMan. Not sure of temp, but I don't have a wetsuit and have never found it particularly cold.
  14. Bunch of our guys generally swim in Emmarentia every Wednesday and Friday at around 5:20pm (weather dependent). From relative beginners to IronMan swimmers, so should find someone at every level, and some to offer wisdom. Feel free to join.
  15. I did my first tri a few weeks ago - my advice would be to get some open water swimming experience in before first tri. I found that everything I practiced in the pool, (tempo, stroke, breathing, etc) was forgotten in the first 20 meters of the open water. And practice your brick training (two disciplines one immediately after the other). In terms of clothing - if its one of the shorter tris in Jhb, you can use a tri suit to swim, cycle and run with no need to change. if you do wear a wetsuit, you would be able to pull it off and leave at your "station" with the rest of your gear when you cycle/run - make sure you have a tri shorts underneath though. I don't have one so can't comment further. In terms of kit, over and above your regular cycling kit and tri shorts, you need swim goggles and running shoes - you may get the swim cap with the entry.

    2012 94.7

My Garmin measured 93.37. Exactly the same as a friend's.
  17. Cant really blame the motorist.
  18. I suspect one of their directors entered, and now can't make it, so they are trying to fob off his entries at full retail and get some publicity at the same time. Or something like that.
  19. I wore latex gloves beneath regular long fingered gloves after reading about it on another thread. Its a cheap solution, and my fingers were never cold along the 40km ride we did that morn. Try it.
  20. The is a rating system on each person's profile - use it every time you make any purchase. That way we have less of a chance of being ripped off by knowing who is reputable and who isnt.
  21. Interesting that the head of Drug Free Sport said on 702 that many people have not been punished for consumption of this particular substance as they could prove that they did not consume it purposely. It is found in some common things and can be described in the ingredient list rather deceptively (he gave an example, which I cannot remember - like the ingredient list shows something like salmon oil).
  22. I've got the Adidas ones. Work well, dont even know they are there. Discovery paid in full for the sunglasses, adn half for the optical insert.
  23. Condolences to the family, and I certainly hope the kid gets the necessary help to overcome what he has seen. Would like to respond to certain posts... If 'they' kill their own over cigarettes (R25 a pack?) surely killing for a bicycle cannot be about racism? If it was, they would have left the bicycle, and also killed the kid. You are right, they would be spearing animals, for food and clothes. They would be killing as they needed, and there would be beautiful land with unpolluted river water, plenty of animals including quaggas (which the European killed to extinction, as was with the dodo), and no excesses - FACT!!!. Today there are still 'uncontacted' tribes in the Amazon and other parts of the world who live as they have done for centuries, hunting with bow and arrows and spears - does this make their way of life wrong? The excesses of our way of life has us crying over the destruction of the Amazon, whereas these people have lived there for ever in peace with their surroundings - FACT!!!. Maybe a spear is not the bad thing you make it out to be. There is load of unreported brutal crime in the townships, and those that are generally reported are done so in newspapers that whites don't read, such as Sowetan etc., so would not be seen outside the township. I personally know of non-whites in my area who were tortured with hot irons AND boiling water - so this abuse is not meted out to whites only. We need harsh sentences with minimal prisoner rights as part of the answer. And the death penalty. I agree, the rights of victims needs to be put way ahead of the rights of any convicted criminal. The reference to integration is about race.
  24. Daily, to me, means that if its a three day event it would happen thrice, once for each day.
  25. The Forerunner should measure the distance under the cap reasonably accurately, but on the arm it is inaccurate due to arm movements/strokes, and also prone to loss as it gets wacked in the washing machine.
