  1. L for the bikes left, R for the bikes right - which makes no diffs if your hovering around the front end looking back Left side tighten to the front end (anti clockwise thread) , right side tighten to the front end (normal clockwise thread). It doesn't matter if you use a pedal spanner (on the outside of crank arm) or Allen key (inside of crank arm), the rotation to loosen or tighten is always the same orientation - tighten towards the front, loosen toward the rear. Pedals of course...
  2. They should be stamped with an L and R for orientation... And tighten towards the front, loosen towards the rear for best results 😉
  3. I was listening to 702 this morning on the way to the airport, they were interviewing Tegan Phillips who is doing a record attempt at the Cairo to Cape Town route. I believe she is trying to better the current record of 42 days I guess it makes our discussions on TB, Freedom challenge, RTR, Munga etc as easier tasks than the one she has ahead of her www.teganphillips.com I believe is her website to get more info and follow
  4. Boost helmets exist already. They have 1-5 letter names
  5. And boost chains.... 😉
  6. Hmm... I think this might just be the source of the clicking noise on my bike. Thanks for the tip
  7. You okes all missed it. Where in Bloem is the OP going to bust a downhill trail on his HT? That place is so flat you can watch your dog run away for 3 days.
  8. Geez bruu's... By the time this thread comes to a concensus, the banana would have deteriated enough to be used as lube anyway Thats what the gym boooiktjies use. They're so slippery they slide upstairs
  9. Should be tightened to 40nm. By hand won't help
  10. With just a bottle of lube.? Yes. 🔚
  11. Cajees will only rip you off. Disclaimer - I encourage as many people as possible to avoid that shop Just goodle map search 'bike shops west rand' and you'll find a few ose to you
  12. My reply isnt bike related, so i'll refrain from replying in fear of getting the thread lock due to profanity
  13. What do you trade that in for? And the upscale in price more than the other one is probably due to OEM rubber
  14. Yep, I can get a suspension upgrade kit for the 1150GS for cheaper than a Fox 34 Hardley's also fall into the overpriced bracket too. Tassles cost a fortune you know
  15. Dont let @Hairy see this thread
  16. At least the crank is in the correct posi
  17. Make sure you have adequet insurance cover in the event of a break in and your customers bikes get nicked. Perhaps cover this detail on the form that they fill in when they drop their bike off for some work And encourage the bike owner to be there when you service his/her bike And have a good clean work station and tool set And have a good bean to coffee machine And keep your pricing honest And dont give family or friends freebies - they must pay like everyone else And lastly, you're the owner so be present in your own shop. Be proud. Get your hands dirty, wash the bikes, get trained, interact with the customer on whatever level it is - even if it is making them a coffee while the trained mechanics handle the bike I travel 40km to my LBS. Either I'm an idiot for punishment, or they're good at the basics listed above and in this entire thread And good luck, its a dog eat dog world out there in the retail game
  18. Ahem.... You stuck in 2018 by any chance? Don't let SARS catch you short changing them by 1%
  19. Abraham Lincoln endorsed the video... It has to be true
  20. My 2c: From #1 follow the suggested blue line to #5 - this keeps you away from the parks, which is a good place for the crims to hide in. Olifants road (in yellow circle) that crosses the dam is popular with cyclists in the early hours of the morning, but its mostly used by the guys crossing from the west to east to do the coffee run to Croft
  21. I'll buy that. High heat, pressure and soap are good to clean the sweat and grime off a lidpot High (quick rising) heat and a high pH level soap however are not mates for alloys and aluminium
  22. Hahaha - I'd listen to her and stop using it altogether You might have to pick up extra coffee duties in return though
  23. Dont use the dishwasher - unless you want it to pit with corrosion and fail. A high pH is a bugger on aluminium parts Just wash it with warm water and a bit of soap as you suggest. Then rinse it afterwards with clean water and dry it. Adding q20 or any other kind of lube will only retain the dirt that gets in there. Rather keep it dry from anything as its not a part used on moving items but rather through moving items. The fun police are now out of here 👮‍♂️ 🚓
