  1. Completed 3 - pretty easy on the Road. 100km rides will have it done in 5 days and at home with the family on Christmas day and even some rest when needed...
  2. Exactly. you can be sure there will be a huge contingent of rogue riders who didnt make the BS lottery, save themselve R500 and decide to rock up and join in a km or two down the road for the experience... (probably happens to a small degree anyway...)
  3. IMO, this is the stupidest thing possible. Why on earth go change a system that guarantees total sell-out in 8 hours. What more do you want? oh... perhaps more PPA membership... For those of us who travel across the country and have already pre-booked accommodation and paid for flights, joining the "crap-shoot" of "MAYBE" getting an entry is ludicrous. Much like the Cape Epic lottery which I've entered religiosly each year and not been successful. And being a licenced racing VET, and supporting the "Cycle Tour" (and CT for that matter) year after year, this whole new lottery system just stinks. Travelling down from JHB is no easy task and has steadily year on year become more and more expensive with all the "add-ons". Now the possibility on not even getting a entry to RACE - (Yes for some of us its not merely a fun ride) almost is the last nail in the coffin...
  4. great event today. still some of the most challenging yet fun mountainbiking in SA. well done MAX
  5. Costs for extra ambulances. honestly, I dont get how surf and turf around JHB can cost almost as much as Argus and more than 947...
  6. well, its great to have them both in SA. Hoping Cav will be around to sign his book at the expo. Legend.
  7. got this yesterday: Thank you for your email. We are in the process of finalising the Team Vitality race calendar. This will be added to the Team Vitality page on the Discovery website when we launch registrations in late January 2015. You will receive cash backs for events you have already registered for, provided that: · It is on the Team Vitality race calendar · The race is completed · You have not reached the quarterly spend limit of R3 000 · You race in your Team Vitality shirt The cash back is calculated at 50% of the pre-race day fee, regardless of your Vitality status. The reason for the cash back being “up to 50%”, is that the total combined qualifying spend at these events is limited to R3 000 per quarter, and R12 000 per year. This is subject to change, and will be confirmed when Team Vitality is launched in late January 2015. We have noted your details and will keep you updated. We trust that this assists you and we are excited with the possibility of having you part of Team Vitality. Regards, Team Vitality

    Lost city 2014

Tough gutter riding in the wind in AL for my first Lost City. legs quite empty happy to crack 3 hours.
  9. white shoes will be tan/beige shoes once cleaned after the first muddy ride.
  10. Lekker ride as usual, Lionman never disappoints. Interesting to note how few cars there were this year, the airstrip is usually loaded. shows you what 1 year break can do to a good event. I thought the caravan park start/finish wasa good idea, nice to have shade to sit under and enjoy your beer / ice-cream. First marathon completed (done 4 half marathons before) lots of sand. almost got run over by a herd of waterbuck, was quite dramatic. The full marathon is definitely good value for money. Getting taken up to play a bit in the hills makes it a much better mtb experience. And the views!!! Looking forward to next years Lionman, and not getting 2 punctures again. Together with the 5 punctures I had at Rooiberg, it seems like Bela Bela is my bogey this year.
  11. Marathon: Tough race, the climbs up the first hill were quite a challenge. Descents went fine. Thank goodness the climb back up the 2nd hill was easier, yet steep. Enjoyed it. I found the last five km rather mindless, just dragging back and forth aimlessly on that gerotec 4x4 track - VERY BORING, compared to the rest of the race Ride time 3:57, official 4:01 (with 1 quick 3 cup stop at the last water table this still mystifies me) Good event, thanks Wessel, will be back again.
  12. Well the race is sold out, so it should be a full house of batches. B start for me.
  13. Any demo bikes available to try for a few hours, from say... 7:30 on?
  14. Um, that is no excuse. there is a long list of medicines on the banned items list, a simple find/search and cross reference of medicine names and you know if its ok or not. Those days of I didn't know are loooong gone...
  15. Crest is not good for heavier riders, flow is a heavy rim. ArchEx is the way to go if you are 90+
  16. He was referring to dropping Chester from the team
  17. Day licence... um, no R35 per day...
  18. like anything second hand, you have absolutely no knowledge of the items history and whats its been through. Whether its been ridden hard, or suffered a "fall-over" standing parked against a lamp post. and in the case of carbon, not getting the warrantee passed over is a problem, because you are on your own when it finally does decide to develop that little hairline crack.
  19. I thought the tree crossing was GREAT. something fun and different to do, tricky getting off at the end, and added to the adventure of the race.
  20. Agreed, that unrideable single track climb above Oom Piets was an exercise in frustration, really spoilt a great ride for me. Rode the whole Satellite descent, tough and scary, but my mantra was "this is rideable" and i just went for it. Happy about that. wrong chainring on my 1x10 made the climbs tough. Used a 34t, should have stuck with the 32t. The whiteknuckle floating bridge was fun - i think i only breathed again after getting across! thanks wessel and team, definitely a tough day out there. The final Single track along the river - really excellent riding, good fun.
  21. thing is in other sports the consequences seem less... athletics, rugby etc
  22. Sani2c is a velvet highway, over-manicured, and stripped. VG is proper. that sattelite decent.... just sucks. It seems that aweful unrideable donga is out (after greek church) is that correct? Greek Church is quite picturesque, enjoy riding up there.
  23. HAH! Rode there on sunday this last weekend. Started at 7am along the river, it was -5.6 degrees. hands were burning like the clappers.
