  1. My experience of the "megastore"... same shop as before with just more bikes and more clothing on the floor. Still very litte diversity, high prices, and nothing to go back there for except collecting race numbers. I dont understand the idea of "we will match anyone else's price". does this mean CL has adopted a stance where anyone with a bit of savvy needs to bargain for an item they need? the old Cajees style of marking up all your prieces by a good margin and then catching out the first and second time buyers who dont know any better and are trying to build this 'relationship' spoken of earlier? A Simple example, the Taya red/silver 10 speed chain. Nice bling, CL price = R499.00, CWC price R380.00. WTF is with this rediculous markup? Do I need to double check everything before going to CL to see what extra I am going to pay, and sit and haggle with a sales person who would rather be somewhere else? In my opinion its these unrealistic prices that drive me away from CL rather than wanting to build a relationship...
  2. Summit (at Memory Lane) Cycletech (BBQ Downs) - sometimes it is better to travel an extra 15mins for value.
  3. Im sure Tyrone can help out with this?
  4. Well I have ridden with you and enjoyed your company, so I hope your bad luck with this whole saga is turned on its ear and you have nothing but good times on your new bike. enjoy it, like all things in MTB, we pay it forward as what goes around comes around, no matter how small.
  5. Deposit made. All the best with your new frame M.
  6. Superb route, really good fun, single track flowed nicely, and the section in the donga was excellent. 5 punctures, serious sense of humour failure after watertable 4 - thanks to the Torq tech guys for fitting another tube for me, their smiles calmed a frustrated moment. Looking forward to next year, serious unfinished business.
  7. There like a bear. Hopefully no punctures, Rooiberg was uber frustrating.
  8. Numb hands? change gloves and handlebar tape. Seat:- Best thing to change is not sitting on your knob.
  9. a good level of fitness removes this too. Proof will be in seeing what the pro's go for, dropping every last bit of weight to get as much advantage as possible usually decides.
  10. Lucky you. Unfortunately on some items shipping options do not exist. Your experiences are not shared by many others.
  11. Planet X, as an online entity is Diabolical. My experience has been beyond painful with them, so I fully understand the OP's message and what he is going through. The ONLY way to resolve your issue, is to buy some Skype credit and call them personally. Be prepared to make a 30 minute call, whilst they two and fro, checking who hasnt done what. Be prepared to call them several times too, as they do not follow up, you have to. we ordered 2 hardtail frames in Sept last year, one was fine, the other had factory damage (some cluts had dropped it on its head tube and the headset cup was dented and carbon cracked.) then followed a lengthy email correspondence for a warrenty claim on something that hadnt even been used. after 3 months a replacement fram arrived with no drop outs, so 4 more weeks of waiting. The bike was built up, rode on two occasions, and discovered a crack in the seat tube. Warrenty claim number 2, email train of note followed - with very little response. A new frame was sent (had to beg for a tracking number), it never arrived. When queried telephonically, the address they had put on package was Zurich in Switzerland ZA (go figure, must be somewhere in Limpopo), and they couldnt track the "replacement" frame. A new frame was sent (different colour as the original was out of stock), it arrived, additional vat was paid for the third time, as they "forgot" to label it as a warranty replacement - so naturally our customs geniuses just follow protocol. Planet X uses TNT POST (not express) meaning your box goes via donkey through Ethiopia to get to south africa. TNT Post just sucks. A total mess. Use the phone, its the only way to get anywhere with this bunch. there after stick with Evans Cycles or CRC. Planet X and On*One - Nice products, crap service, crap communication, crap management, crap... well just crap.
  12. Good to hear its back Carpet.
  13. Med cage clutch deraileur will add tension to the system. w/n chainring is a must. Are you riding your 1x10 setup on a hardtail? this added bouncing does add to chain drop in my experience. Your best bet is a chain keeper on the front too. Csix is ok but expensive for what it is. options available at crc. Grease wont make much difference. what i also noticed was a bad riding habbit, in that when riding in the smallest sprocket, the chain could get pulled off the chainring by pedalling backwards to level of the pedals, due to the angle of the chainline and lack of overall tension in the system, something to be aware of and minimise if you can. Chainlength depends on the bike size too. Big frames, may need slightly longer chains. What you need to set yours to, it when in the smallest sprocket (10 or 11) the chain is at it slackest and the deraileur at it most coiled. there should just be enough tension in the system/spring to stop the chain from rubbing against itself as it passes through the deraileur when turning the crank. I always get this wrong with a chain that is too short and have to splice in an extra link. too short a chain puts too much tension on the deraileur when its riding the bail-out gear 42tor 40t. When engaged on this large sprocket, the deraileur shouldnt be pulled past 45 degrees (the 4-o-clock position). Also, dont clean your chain too much a sticky chain does stay on better than a sparkly clean one. my current setup - No chain drops yet: SC Tallboy: XX1 crank + 32t Sram X9 RD Type 2 Shimano XT 11-36 cassette Woolftooth 42 bailout sprocket On*One Lurcher: Sram 2200 crank 34t Absolute Black Chainring 104 BCD w/n Sram X9 RD Type 2 Sram 1070 11/36 cassette OneUp 42t bailout sprocket
  14. Go Fox. much better than the sid and nude2, no question. You have to keep your bearings maintained regularily too, this really affects the longevity of your spark.
  15. fibre-flare, best light I have found to date. highly visible too.
  16. not all fits are correct either. My first Raleigh road bike from a shop in bedforview was a 57cm. Now I actually ride a 61cm (I'm 19cm5 tall)rubbish advice I originally got, just to make a sale it seems
  17. entered, should be fun
  18. wear and tear issue. a clumsy step on a portage with your steed on your shoulder etc etc. too many variables, especially after a year and a half (almost) of use. damn shame, but ask Probike what they can do to if anything. no harm in trying...
  19. Sorry to hear this M. I hope it turns up.
  20. they havent really pulled enough yet, have they. this still has some way to go
  21. looking forward to sunday.
  22. MTB is a rough sport. The bikes take quite a hammering, and are not meant to last. That bike is too old for that price, and since you don't know its history, it may well be past its sell by date, and give you serious issues going forward. Shop around, 29" bikes are great fun, so too the 650b. You should get good value on new or newish bikes for 8k.
