  1. At least they had a seperate table for racing vets/ licenced riders at the Fast One pick up at Cycle lab. they also had printouts of the current licenced riders and could check. Many. including me, havent received our licence cards yet from CSA in the post yet,(shock horror, who would have thought)
  2. FRAME? your lucky, usually USPS doesnt handle items over a certain max size, (includes most boxed frames)
  3. .
  4. dont need the 10, but the 42 sideplate definitely helps when the going really gets going (knysna PSG for instance). for Flatter stuff, 11/36 10 speed is fine. The cheaper alternative is to get the General Lee conversion for your existing 10sp cassette.
  5. a cassette is a cassette. the road cassette will have far fewer cogs on its granny sprockets, so your climbing experience will be quite different. If it fits the splines of the mtb freehub body, then it can be used. Campy is diff to Sram/Shimano. only thing that will affect the bearings inside the freehub body could be water and dust/dirt.
  6. Pity its the same day as Mtn's Rooiberg
  7. Summit cycles, or Spez concept store in Melrose Arch
  8. Same problem in track racing, XCO is the mtb niche.
  9. At the cavern you buy a permit, and they have a map with all the routes marked.
  10. the route around the cavern is good, make sure you are fit. fairly well markerd, takes you around the cavern down to Mont aux Sources, to alloutadventures, across to Alpine Heath etc. good riding, felt quite safe alone (dont get hurt, not many folks out there) good wildlife spotting too.
  11. A bell is clearer than mud.
  12. that sort of damage is unacceptible. sorry to see this. reinforces my belief that you should skill up and do these services yourself.
  13. 15 grams difference between the two. the weight of a good fart before setting out.
  14. what a great event.
  15. What he said. You must make it clear that the damage was a direct result of a HUGE tumble etc, otherwise insurance will merely tell you to go sort it out yourself with the manufacturer Seat clamp crack are often to do with seatposts not put in deep enough into the seat tube, or clamps not tightened properly.
  16. mud on plate.
  17. Love my Tallboy, no brainer - SC.
  18. Climbing comes at the end of the race, after you have passed Rietvlei dam. What I would like to know, why on earth is there a 112km event (R250) and then a 101km event (R200)? this makes absolutely no sense? Is one supposed to cater for u23's and elites, or is it just to squeeze out another R50 for 11km? whats the point actually, the main race could have been 112km with no added fuss? Doesnt this also just double up all the seeding logistics? rediculous imo.
  19. usually carbon frames have direct mount deraileur fitting points. it looks like your deraileur is a clamp on? this could also be problematic. It would not be ideal having the cable sawing away at the frame, you may well have a problem here.
  20. Karkloof is great. The Bull runs take some cahones to get on and not kill yourself, but awesome riding.
  21. look for a single speed kit on ebay, specifically those from Taiwan, as the guys there are quite bike mad and their postage is really good and reliable (compared to china which sucks) This will give you a single speed sprocket and spacers at a really cheap cost. I have sourced all my small detail items from them, (Mowa KCNC etc) which really help make your machine special. I havent bought cranks brakes etc, so that may be worth investigating, even with the R/$ being bad right now.
  22. Your LBS is unfortunately not with you when riding in the boonies, so best advice is to get to know how it all works asap, and practice if you can.
  23. Well, one of the weak spots on the tubeless system is the valve. We recently had one shear off whilst using a hand pump to reinflate a tire. Over time the thin metal of the valve fatigues until it fails when you need it not to. A valve is certainly not a "spare" you normally carry, so the tube we had was put to good use.
  24. remove your front number plate.
