    320km....sjoe i need to go back a year on this thread to see how that worked out? I'm just short of 900km since jan1, with a good 100km of hiking in there too. Wanted to have done 1000km, but don't think that's going to happen now. I guess everyone says they wish they'd done more. I have followed the Comrades Mtshali program that you download off the site. Kind of used it as a guide mainly, and then done hills/recovery runs when they are set. Looking back I have done about 85% of the requirement. I think my top week was 80km distance wise. BUT haven't got injured, which was the main goal.

    Been very impressed by adidas terrex range so moved to them for road shoes too. Can get decent deals, but the Boston 12s never went that way so had to pay full retail!

    Sorry to hear. 19 days to go and I have the bloody flu. Not sure about the only suffering 40% of the race, thought that was a good day out!

    I know it's roadbikes, but principles are similar. UCI limit is 6.8kg, has been for years. there was even a cannondale TdF bike about 20 years ago where they put a lead weight on the top tube to bring it up to scale as a form of protest.     um. what is a national park? if you're thinking of big game type stuff then there's that. there are plenty that are kind of open land with a bit of management. otherwise events off the top of my head that have been in local national parks. TMNP - epic prologue and loads of trail runs Westcoast - langebaan cycle race, weskus marathon Tankwa karoo - any race that uses ouberg (or gannaga?) pass might be some that go in namaqua and richtersveld np too bontebok - swellendam mtb races garden route national park - knysna/sedgefield/plett races, (karoo to coast for one).

    oops - thanks. I actually went to page 20 of the forum listing to find the right topic, the pinned one at the top was where it was! I don't fully disagree with a lot of what is being said there, while I don't think this is an election ploy (NMT plans are probably unpopular on balance, car drivers f#$$ing hate cyclists and are in the majority) they definitely can do more to make their ideas work on the ground.
