  1. I would recommend adding another pulley and attaching it to the ceiling right next to the wall where you want to fasten the rope. That way it's neat and you dont have a piece of rope going diagonally through your garage. Something like this (gotta love paint)
  2. Will let you know a bit later
  3. Makes it WAY easier
  4. Ceiling boards or concrete? If it's ceiling boards just make sure you fit it through the ceiling and into the rafters, don't think the ceiling will support the weight.
  5. Where do you want to fit it?
  6. How much would you consider a fortune? Have no idea what it's going to cost but you can definately build this. Should be easy. I'm going to builders this afternoon, will check prices etc and let you know what you need.
  7. I'm willing to swop her for a set of SLX brakes if your keen?
  8. I just realised that if it's not about the bike it's definately not about the paintjob either. Will probably go for the SLX, the juicy's are still working (I have become quite an adept at fixing them), it's just the level of maintenance that's getting to me.
  9. That would have worked if she wasn't into cycling, unfortunately/fortunately (?) she is, so she knows what stuff costs. It's all my fault actually, I'm the one that miraculously turned cycling into "quality time" (If you want to know how just by my e-book: "How to take the fun out of cycling"). All jokes aside, the woman is absolutely fearless and manages to do on a R5k hardtail what normal people do on a R30k full suss, which explains why she doesn't condone "upgrades". Apparently, "it's not about the bike". Couldn't ask for a better riding partner.
  10. Thanks but that definately wipes the clarks off the list, when I upgrade I want to upgrade, I don't want to replace what I have with something as least as good. Currently the saints are a bit out of my league, the SLX at R1300 is stretching it because apparently the kitchen's new paintjob is more important than me being able to stop. That said, my life insurance should at least cover the whole house so maybe the missus is working with a plan. . . damn smart women!
  11. Will do. Just had a bad experience I guess, had to send the front brake in twice under warrantee, took about a month each time. Payed for countless bleeds, finally bought the bleed kit, went well as long as I bleed them every two months, then the pistons started sticking. . . I understand that the performance won't be the same between the elixirs and the juicy 3's but me thinks the build quality is supposed to be. Whether you buy a tazz or a landcruiser, you can do 300k in a toyota. The one might be comfier, faster and overall fancier but they'll both get you there. Not so with Avid in my experience, maybe I just had a dud. Think I'm going with the SLX
  12. Those Oros don't look bad at all, and I love Oros, O-o-o-o-OROS! Thanks Cap, the SLX is currently my first choice. I've only ever had the juicy 3's (first hydro discs) so I don't really have any experience in this matter. All I know is I'll never buy Avids again.
  13. I've finally gone mad trying to keep the Juicy 3's working. I know, I know, but they came with the bike. To be honest, since I've bought my bike middle 2009 my brakes are literally the only things that ever broke/malfunctioned/made me P-off. So now I want to upgrade, I've only decided this last night after the 1000000th time the piston got stuck, but money is a bit tight. I've narrowed it down to the following: Hayes Stroker Ryde (+- R1400 per set) My link Shimano SLX M665 (+-R1300 per set) My link Clarks Skeletal (+- R1100 per set) My link Magura Julie HP (R1000 per set) My link Anyone with any experience on the above mentioned? Please don't tell me to buy the Magura MT8 or the Shimano XTR. . . if I could, I would. Thanks!
  14. This has been said a million times but I've always had great service from epic cycles in doringkloof
  15. Good rolling resistance. . .
  16. If anybody else has any Groenkloof stories about deadly snakes please keep them to yourself. Otherwise have a look in the classifieds section, I will be selling my annual ticket-thing. I hate snakes!!
  17. Has anybody read ChiRunning by Danny Dreyer? I haven't read it but a friend wants to get me into trail running and he recommended it. Any thoughts? On the cover it says "A Revolutionary Approach to Effortless, Injury-Free Running". I can definately confirm the difficulty of running, I'm fairly cycling fit but almost died running 3K's this morning!
  18. Just got back from a quick loop at Groenkloof, cable tie seems to be holding up quite well. Thanks again!
  19. Now I feel like an idiot Thanks, will give it a go, I'm ashamed I didn't think of it. I use it to fix almost everything else
  20. Ok, so I'm using a fairly oldish/basic bicycle computer with the sensor that attaches to the front fork. What do you guys use to attach the sensor to the fork? The supplied piece of elastic (looks like an o-ring) broke about a week after first connecting the computer. Since then I've used regular elastic (like the newspaper guys use), o-rings, string, mirror tape and everything else I could think of, all to no avail. Any tips?
  21. I emailed a bunch of places today to get a price for the thule raceway 9003, most of them didn't have stock yet. The rest charged somewhere between R3650 and R4999. The guy at the thule fitment centre didn't know what I was talking about and Cajees Centurion came in with R3500 (without any haggling). The only place cheaper whas Hotspot at R3250 for cash purchases but they replied too late. When I got to Cajees the guy I emailed asked me what price did he tell me in the email so I told him R3500. He didn't look very happy about it. When I got home I saw on the slip that the normal price is R4650 and I got R1195 discount. If they keep doing stuff like this I'll keep buying stuff there.
  22. True, but I still think it's actually the same concept. Smokoo also has mostly small auctions (R5 bids) and about R5000 value and on those they don't make as much profit. But every now and again they throw in a big one and make up for all the smaller ones. They lure people by selling the small stuff at crazy prices and then nail them with the big ones. I think thats probably how most of them work.
  23. Sorry, only saw this now. I watched one of those auctions close on Smokoo. It was for a new Nissan GT-R, can't remember the exact numbers but the car retails for something like R1.3m,each bid was R25 and the "purchase" price climbed with 1c with every bid. So for every R1 that the "purchase" price climbs, they made R2500. The car sold for about R670. If you do the math that means they got R1.675000 for it while retail is R1.3m,thats R300 000 profit. I don't think I would consider that a tight profit margin. http://www.za.smokoo.com/auctions/smokoo_nissan_skyline_gtr
