  1. I have been doing quite a bit of research into lower pace heart rate runs. It all started with reading a book from plant based ultra athlete Rich Roll. A book I wholly recommend. The theory (and this is a really simple summary) is that you never deviate from zone 2. This allows the body to almost never use its anaerobic system and thus means you can basically perform for ages. Sure it’s at the cost of pace. But as you build your base the pace starts to improve all whilst your cardiovascular systems remains in zone 2. Basically you get faster and faster without ever using your anaerobic system. Recoveries are quick and you never have an excess amount of lactate. It’s quite frustrating in the beginning as you feel like you are a geriatric. But it pays off in the long run.
  2. broken thumb. Have a cast up to the forearm. It’s a stupid silly thing but the cast affects the running. The hand swells and the thumb throbs when out for a run and it is super annoying. Plus, it’s starting to smell a bit funky.
  3. hopefully my cast comes off tomorrow morning and i can get back on the road
  4. Agreed wholeheartedly. And yes...I voted for someone else.
  5. Thanks for this. I have been struggling for some time with Facebook feeling like the centre of everything. I just went and did a facebook cleanup of groups and "Friends" The only reason that I did not deactivte completely was to record and store photos of the kiddos. I quite enjoy the memories feature that reminds us of some of our adventures. This adds positive value to my life and I will retain it. The rest is bull****. Went from 800 people down to like 100. Cant even remember some of the people on there! Relax Ross, I kept you.
  6. I bought an aftermarket seat for the 310GS. My hobbit sized body is thanking me. Its much more comfortable now and I can get more foot access. That bike is surprisingly tall. Taller than a 1200GS
  7. remember the Stephen Joyce incident?
  8. I see the vile piece of excrement is choosing to represent himself in court. On a slightly seperate note, how amazing is Egg Boy...what a champ.
  9. update since Dawie’s post above. Seems at this stage only one perpetrator. The other two and the woman are not directly involved. They were armed bystanders. Although this is still developing. Death toll now at 49. To put this in perspective the average murder rate for the whole country is around 50 a year. The terrorise has been caught and will appear in court tomorrow. Sad sad times. People here are gutted. I was in the cbd as the bomb scare went off and we had to catch an Uber our as we could not get to the train. The whole country is on high alert.
  10. Shell be right mate. Nah, all good. Was horsing around with my son and he landed awkwardly on the hand. Not a major issue, just a cast for a couple of weeks and then it should be good..
  11. Here is something to love. ACC claims for injuries. I broke my thumb yesterday. Total bill for all hospital care and attention is $72. Only because I went to the hospital at night and had to pay a copayment.
  12. Debit cards are fine. Also often referred to as EFTPOS cards. A prezzie card is a gift card with cash on it.
  13. Cheap entry fees is something I miss about RSA. We did the Auckland HALF marathon last year. Entry fee was $140 each. Thats R1,400 Came with a free cap though.
  14. Is training peaks worth it? Thinking of getting up to Marathon level and want to do it smart. Any comments/suggestions?
  15. so sorry for your loss. Losing someone is never easy.
  16. I woke up feeling a little hungover. Decided to go for a short 5km and ended up doing 21. I am really enjoying my running lately.
  17. As a piece of equipment its actually quite phenomenal. If you buy a genuine one, it allows you access to an app that has daily workouts on it with videos and so on. The downside is that like most home exercise equipment, you have to be particularly dedicated to use it,
  18. I am heavily tattooed on the wrists (full sleeves) and the wrist HR does not work so lekker for me. To be fair, Garmin do warn you about tattoos. On a seperate note, I am trying to run exclusively by Heart rate lately. I am completely ignoring distance and pace and only running at a comfortable Z3 (as low in Z3 as possible) for as long as i am enjoying myself. It has completely changed my feelings about running. I absolutley am falling in love with it.
  19. the 4% have revolutionised my running. I am absolutely in love with them.
  20. Just finished reading Rich Roll “Finding Ultra” What a great book Highly highly recommend.
  21. my kids have been vegan for almost two years. My daughters excema cleared up and the kids are super happy and healthy. Took a little while for them to adjust their palette/pallet/tastebuds/thingy but now they are good. When I get a chance I’ll send you some details on the food types they enjoy the most.
  22. Dr Snippie De Kok?
  23. Looks like she already took out her first pedestrian in the second photo...
  24. I meant to say BIKING weekend, but istead typed Viking. Maybe Viking is still appropriate...
