  1. Other minor notes: 1. At this point on your way out (bottom of FHoek pass), you'll need to climb over a gate/wall. Not sure how heavily laden your bike will be... 2. Not convinced this is a public road (might be an apple field in a farm) 3. As per above comments, Komoot is doing some weird things in many places, such as down to the Malgas ferry.
  2. Very minor comment (though given you'd hit it on the last day, you'd rather find this out now ) The road past Theewaters has been closed for the last year, I'm not sure it's open yet. This means you might need to detour through Villiersdorp (adding 10-20km).
  3. Another video by Tristan with John
  4. On an Edge the Varia battery percentage is in the Status section I've found "Day flash" lasts absolute hours (have never had it run flat despite 10 hour rides). Night flash goes flat much quicker.
  5. How regular? I’m seriously curious, because I heard of 2 incidents in 2022 and none since then. I do that road alone fairly regularly and have never felt unsafe (safer than the alternative, which is Main Road, for sure), so interested to know if there have been recent issues.
  6. Upgrade to the bike toolbox
  7. aka, why settle for 2 wheelsets when you can have 2 completely different forks? 😂
  8. You'll get many opinions on this from the hub, obviously I have one bike, a Spez Diverge. I find that, with a set of 38mm Pathfinders (or maybe Pirelli Cinturatos if it's muddy) and a set of 32mm road tyres (I have the Roubaix Pro), you're pretty sorted for anything you could come across. Reasons I like having a single bike: I don't have to think about issues like "which bike do I invest in?" (buying a power meter, electronic shifting, etc). I just upgrade the one bike. Less bike shop costs Pain points: Ideally I'd like 2 completely different wheelsets, and will probably go this route next year. Just makes it even easier to switch between road and offroad. You need to be ok with under-biking if you leave the wide roads for single track. I don't mind this, so it's not an issue for me. Other: The Diverge has a futureshock stem, which absorbs some vibrations (10mm or so). It's not a fork shock, obviously, but it's better than nothing. I run 1x Sram AXS, with a 10-50 on the back. I also have 2 chainrings, 40 and 48, depending on whether I'm doing crazy climbing gravel, or flattish road. I only swap these out about once a year.
  9. Intermarche have added their comments 😂
  10. Followed 90 minutes later by… 😂😂
  11. But do they wave? 🤔🤔😂
  12. As my dad told me the one time I walked across a pedestrian crossing without looking "because cars should stop": "Being right is no good if you're dead"
  13. No, you get one extra Paardeberg road in this route (you turn off the R60 one road later)
  14. Yup, in terms of reason to get a Varia, that's about number 97 on the list. 96 is probably another "useless" stat you get on your Garmin, which how many cars it has detected so far on the ride. Road: hundreds, gravel: tens
  15. Absolutely nothing I think the end goal for the site-owners is to aggregate all the info so you can get an idea of "safe" roads and "unsafe" roads, but we're nowhere near that right now.
  16. A feature I don't really use much, but is fun to look at sometimes, is the ability to upload to https://www.mybiketraffic.com/ and see when vehicles passed me ,and how fast they were going. In the image above, each green dot is a vehicle detected, which I can click on to see each detection of that vehicle, and how fast it was moving as it approached me (I've clicked on a taxi that buzzed me on my ride this morning as an example).
  17. I don't see the benefit of the RCT (I have the RTL). The RTL has lasted me 8 hour long rides, no issues. It's a massive win when you're doing a descent like Constantia Nek into Hout Bay, you can take the lane with confidence around the corners. Folks riding with me also watch the light pattern and know that when it changes a car is approaching.
  18. My first DC, got drafted into a team on Monday. Wow, you can’t explain DC, you need to experience it. I get it now, it’s completely different to any other bike race. The vibe, the collective effort (from riders and support teams). The intense sense of achievement. I’ll be back next year, that’s for sure.
  19. Yeah, I'm waiting to feel my legs on Monday before entering 🙈😂
  20. Also on the fence given the complete lack of noise I’m half expecting a cancellation notice any day now, but we’ll see…
  21. Yeah, mine was my kidney beans being the wrong way
  22. Ahahahaha, I’ve done this, but for me it just caused skipping in the 10T cog. Was very concerned until I got home and face palmed very hard
  23. Titan or Merida?
  24. Regarding upper Black route, I was at Moggs (up towards the top of Hemel en Aarde) last weekend, and their comment was that when they went up to look, the trail "simply doesn't exist anymore". Huge mud slides have covered stuff meters deep in places.
  25. Based on this post, I doubt it https://www.facebook.com/100065293038137/posts/pfbid021ZTYHWXc3SufYVDfeDc6RBJpaMcZnFwLEa9KCSBq9u69segwRBStc58erzMWBbYRl/?app=fbl
