  1. If any of you have worries about the water quality then you can personally get it tested at the lab at delta park (i think its R.250 per water sample) they culture to check e-coli and give you a very neat rundown of the danger to human health. A mate of mine did water sampling down the spruit, starting at emmarentia dam, for his varsity hons project. apparently the quality was fine for about 4km and then it got really bad. Emmarentia dam was a Case study that was mentioned in my environmental chemistry course for the Mobility of chromium 6 (which is the nasty one) apparently its mobility changes depending on the season and is only present in the deep water, so it was at low concentrations in summer and winter when the thermocline in the water is stable but was present at surface during spring and autumn when the changes in water temp resulted in mixing of surface and lower waters.
  2. what i have always worried about with carbon mtb's is that carbon fibre is only strong directionally. What happens when you fall off it (I tend to fall off things)? Or clip a tree? will the frame explode into a million peices as it received a significant stress from a direction outside of its design criteria?
  3. whaaa! fat labrador frisbee! I am going to use that one. thanks dude.
  4. Calling someone average is Mean.
  5. I am currently trying to find some way for me to bridge the gap (so to speak) between going from the begginers line to the intermediate line at the bike park. I am currently struggling with the fact that on the bike park intermediate line, the takeoff is dramatically steeper and so you have to allow the bike to move underneath you. I have no idea how fast to hit it, how hard to pump etc. Any advice? Also does anyone ever ride DHL these days? last time i went there it was hoboville and it would also be nice to go with someone to shadow how quickly they go through the line.
  6. Hey all! please post your most epic GoPro fail video's. a mate of mine got one of him OTBing and i feel that there are probably a lot more like that out there!
  7. Hey dude! Mikes bikes in greenside does awesome custom paint jobs. check them out. http://mikesbikes.co.za/?page_id=130
  8. +1 for scrubbing brush and dettol. you gotta get all the sand and horror out before your body can start healing! I just get into a bath of dettol and carefully scrub with a nail brush. Hurts like hell but is worth it.otherwise you get sand under the skin which no fun when your body tries to get rid of it!
  9. Heh. I can see that pulling a nainernorman is probably going to get meme status.
  10. Its just people in general. why use the sidewalk if there is a perfectly good road that you can walk three abreast on! the same applies to mountain bikers who would rather cycle on the road in heavy traffic rather than use the perfectly good single track next to the road.... why cross at pedestrian crossings when it means a detour to get to your shop? why use the pedestrian bridge when you can just cross the highway on foot? Gar!
  11. Ssang -Yong and Barbara Striesand=Mecha-Striesand!
  12. opsticles? are those like testicles that have been operated on? I am pretty sure I would have opsticles after some tech trails on a 100mm 29er! that intense is beautiful cptmayhem.
  13. tried to pick up his girlfriend, looked at him funny. Not really sure. Could have just been a lack of technique thing and its not fair to blame the bike. but normally he matches me fine so not sure what happened there...
  14. @ patches. Not sure how well the 9ainers do those turns when going quickly. mate of mine on his one punched a tree hard while following me.
  15. yup. Starts up at the bridge and keep right the whole way. once you are out of the first part of the tree line, head right into the second tree line where there are a bunch of fun little twists and turns.
  16. @29ur-norman Um. Maybe try some really technical routes before making broad statements dude. cycling up the tree line hardly qualifies as technical.....
  17. I think the bus route which goes closest to woodmead is the one from the midrand station to rivonia road. it crosses the woodmead kyalami road about 4km from woodmead.
  18. I like it! Have often thought that some bikes look like works of art and so then you can display them suitably! not sure if i want my frequently muddy, wide-bar, scratched and lurid green dirt jumper in my lounge as a conversation peice however.
  19. Bugger! missed a build session again just cos i dont check thehub every day. Please PM me so that it appears in my e-mail when you want to do a build again.
  20. okay. so spray it with a standard gloss black and then put on a matte clear? or should both coates be matte?
  21. I am thinking of repainting my specialized matte black with some colour tweaks. has anyone here had any experience with matte black paint jobs and keeping your mtb clean? or should i rather just matte it and then put on a clear coat? I have this vision of the grime hanging out in the matte surface forever.
  22. awesome! when you building again?
  23. the trails around the beaver creek coffee plantation are quite pleasant. and they do very good coffee! its just inland of port edward
