  2. The mine dumps in Benoni are open to riding.(if it's Chimes outside Benoni we're talking about.) Motocross guys have been going there for years. Be careful on Sundays though. It's very busy and dusty, and your car could end up stolen. If it's between mtb'ers and KTMs: mtb'ers will end up 2nd best.
  4. What makes these interest hikes worse, is that economists have a term for what's happening. It comes down to legalized stealing from the public.I read in a newspaper that the reserve bank uses the hikes to top up state coffers.
  5. We get chirped by drunks from a pub & News Cafe on our cycle route on Saturday mornings at 6am who are probably too smashed to know the way home. Imagine if that guy gets behind the wheel, we're toast. My thought used to be that you're safer in a race, the probability of being run over, is much lower. But then again...
  6. Northgate Lodge (5km from town) has 1 family unit available, the unit sleeps 6 if anyone's interested. (They phoned me today and I was on their waiting list, but I confirmed accommodation elsewhere last month.)
  7. I have no immediate plans to pack up and leave, but I've started making enquiries what my line of work has to offer overseas. I've spent more than R30G to secure my home and family. Small children don't have to learn what to do in a hijacking situation. Families are broken up and children are orphaned by violence. Think what was acceptable to you, say 7 years ago and see how you have adapted/conditioned to accept these bizarre changes and how it's changed your way/quality of life. In my opinion the only things that tie me to the country, are family and friends. People are the same wherever you go.
  8. Petitions hardly ever get the reaction its subscribers want. If he doesn't want to accept a public invitation to ride in a team car to speak an 'educated opinion" (well said!), he doesn't want to be educated. Radio stations aren't worried about DJs speaking their minds, unless it's defamatory, hate speech etc. Instead wear your cycling clothes with pride, show him it takes more than a dumb @ss on radio to ruffle our feathers. Gareth who?
  9. Yeah, it's crazy. Seems like Zim's found an ally. I just don't know why they involve SA if they could've used Mozambique's port, like before.
  10. They say it's a circular route, different from last year's out-and-back 100km. We were only a handful of riders on the 100km last year, most cyclists were on their own the whole race, the start time is not good (+-10h00) and you sit on your own the whole day waiting for your friends to finish the 175km.
  11. Demand a new car! There was nothing wrong with the money you paid them with, why settle for a faulty product? Being a woman makes it just more dangerous riding around with an unreliable car. If you financed it, the garage can do an 'item swop' at the bank, ie change the details,VIN & eng nrs on the contract and you keep the advantage of the past two months' debit orders you paid. Beware of what the garage tells you what is wrong. (I had brake fluid dripping in the new car from the reservoir and they tried telling me it's grease from my clutch pedal....
  12. Yeah, I say if I watch a local race on tv and see one more elderly with a teddy bear tied to his helmet to draw attention, I'm gonna throw up. But then again, I didn't ride the Amashova but got up early to watch the race live on TV?
  13. *Drivers who take their Sunday drive on a Saturday. *Drivers who can't talk on a cellphone and drive at the same time. *Drivers who don't want to wait their turn at an offramp queue. (a lot of potential road rage here)
  14. People who pick their noses in public.
  15. Or in a bunch over a 100km race...
  16. Pantani: eeeeeuuww! (maybe too much info). Just think, if you get tired, the shoes might start peddling by itself! But seriously: Nothing wrong with 2nd hand shoes. There's enough anti-bacterial sprays & powder on the market to kill just about any germ.
  17. Has Lance been actively involved in talks and cancer awareness in his foundation?
  18. I dont want to sound like Arnie, but why would you want to cycle without a helmet anyway? There are so many variety helmets on the market, most good helmets also look good. So you get helmet hair, So does everyone else.
  19. I don't think the more experienced rider worries too much about a couple of kms extra in a race. Its horrible if organisers make you pay for a 80km mtb event and you end up riding only 40. (Isn't that what happened @ Tzaneen mtb race?) With races being a lot more expensive these days, you pay for the distance and organisers should try to get as close to it as possible. (If you work it back to R p/km. $$$! )
  20. What's up with going back to the Sandton convention Centre for registration? Last year was frustrating: only a certain amount of people were let in at a time & parking was crap. Who wants to shop at the expo if you just stood outside for more than an hour before they let you in the building? I was one of those people who 'popped' out of work to 'quickly' collect their number.
  21. I know this thread's worn out, but Michelle opened a can of worms Do you realize that 50% of the Elites & u23's racing field know that they will never win a race and get their hands on the prize money. Yet they race right to the end, trying to achieve personal best/beat the rider next to him etc. No comments were ever made after a race of the Elites & u23's 'having a picnic' or that the pace was moderate. If you want to ride license, but not give your best at what you do, the problem is with you, not the incentive. Agreed, license money should be the same for both genders, but don't even try to compare your license riding with the Elites.
  22. My two cents worth: I ride miXED tandem ' date=' and until recently , there was hardly any recognition for mixed tandems, this has now been brought to book and mixed tandem are know recognised, I know on various occasions where we finished in top three mixed tandem and not even mentioned. [/quote'] I have to disagree. Mixed tandems are acknowledged at races since I can remember back in the 90's. Perhaps not up to third place. It's the ladies tandems that need attention. Perhaps Beee and them's efforts will inspire more girls to try tandem racing.
