  1. Three weeks ago there was a link on the entry page to the staem railers to book the trip back to the start. When I had a look last week, the link was removed. It seems the rail guys didn't want to hook an extra carriage for the bikes and they didn't want the bikes in with the passengers. That's when we decided not to go. As for the train, their schedule says it leaves jhb station at 9 am, and arriving in magalies at 11am. The Top guys must've seen the train because they got to the finish in just over 2 hrs.
  2. Yeah, he's so coy about it. Seems like the illegal dolphin kick on the turn gave him the unfair advantage. I don't know if he really deserves that medal if he blatantly disregarded the rules.
  3. No need for cash, a complaint at the ombudsman is free. What you'll need loads of, is patience.
  4. Mass start for everyone back fired badly for the orgs. Lots of pushing and shoving the fIrst few 100mtrs, with LOTS moving forward when asked by the announcer for top contenders to move to the front. Great weather and spectator friendly. Bike leg was only 24km and not technical at all, even though we saw two serious wipe outs as guys went out for second laps.
  5. If I had to wait to finish top 15, I would never have made the transition to the longer distances. (just don't hang about the 20kms for too long, an adult outsprinting a 9yr old to the finish is not cool.)
  6. Apparently they did.
  7. Yip, seriously uncool for organisers not to mark that last drop off. It's a blind rise, and one would think it's a whoop with no danger signs anywhere The poor dude in front of my husband took a bad dive. Maybe you, Pieterg? On the 60km? The comm was under the impression it was marked untill he was told otherwise. That's why they sent out the guy with the bullhorn.
  8. 2 degrees outside and I'm in the car at the venue having second thoughts about riding the 40km at 9h30 . wind is a killer and with no sun to warm us up. Many people turned around and went home. The weather at the serengeti race 3 weeks ago was cold, but it doesn't come close to this.
  9. Some coffee shop goers may stare, but wear them proud. But if you must stick to shoe laces, and you have a fall, you'll have the excuse that your laces got caught in the chainring. Ultimate faux pas.
  10. Yeah, you heard right. If the 80km top riders also complained about the 10 km zig zags, there must be something to it.
  11. Race organisation 101: get the distances right. 80km ended up in 92km. :-( I do understand that they had to get distance in the reserve, but a freshly cut 'track' that zig zags for 5km+ within a 1sq km area, was not fun. Was on a ds and my back took a pounding.
  12. When we phoned to hear about late entries, you didn't say anything about a penalty. ?

    Giro Donne

Sadly no, it's aired on rai sport 2 and it's not on the dstv bouquet.
  14. Now that girl Anke could ride a bike! Besides fighting a losing battle with CSA in court, I suppose Cherise sat down and made the calculations. High Court applications/court days aren't cheap, a few thousand rand per day.And if CSA is willing to fight it tooth and nail to win, she'll end up paying their costs as well.
  15. local is not always lekker.1week later and we're still waiting for parts (available locally) from a lbs. Crc:we ordered on a monday, picked up the goods on friday at the post office hub.
  16. Oops.
  17. Not acc to the post somewhere on the forum yesterday: 650 spaces up for grabs on each event, which means each and every team that rode this year, is guaranteed an entry.(unless the partners split up)
  18. Don't bother trying to phone the organiser's race office, either no answer or a woman answers the cell no, and then puts the phone down. Whatever. No info, no entry.

    2012 VW Tiguan

If you're referring to their diesel CRV, yes, an extra R130,000 will buy you the extra (bit) of horsepower. Can we stick to comparing apples with apples?
  20. If Woolies, Edgars etc didn't allow exchanges, they'd be out of business by now. Many women(and men) buy clothes without fitting it in store, only to fit it on at home, and exchange it the next day. Money is spent in the shop eventually, so it's probably all that matters for the chain.
  21. Be happy about the shorter route. Heard they said on the start line they took out the swamp section next to serengeti with ice cold water above ankle depth 150m long and no way around it. Rode/walked it twice in summer and it wasn't fun then.
  22. Brrrrr. temp was 3.5degrees when I left the car for the start. Fast ride mainly through mielie fields, but going through that water section was not fun. Couldn't feel my toes after that. A bit of a mess with 10km riders wanting to go straight on their course and the 30km who had to push through to get to their turn off just after the gate. Nice prego roll etc on sale after the race. Prize giving took forever to get going and we eventually left after 45min.
  23. Tsi' has got turbo & compressor and puts out more kw than the 2l. There's no lack in power, and the tiguan is the lighter vehicle of the lot. Good thing they come with a 60,000/5yr maintenance plan to fix all the broken parts after your 1st 50kms. ;-)
  24. Hillfox. The projection board is still there, but it's been a shopping mall for ages.:-(
