  1. Hi I left it over the short white fence outside the hospitality tent, please let me know if you find it / saw it, it had a remote in the pocket which is expensive to replace. Thanks
  2. Only because i need a mountainbike to find my ball
  3. I got all that and a plane just went over with my start time on a banner behind it, I think they've met expectations on comms with entrants.
  4. How far ahead of SA is NZ? About 11 hours .......But 30yrs behind the UK
  5. They dont want to stock 26" saying they're cheap messabout bikes for poor kids and oompah lumpahs.
  6. Why not give them a pic of Jabba the Hut and let them get on with it - should be a close enough description for a guy of 100kgs (huff, puff)
  7. I seem to remember that the road races in Pretoria/Nth Gauteng were allowed by the cops/municipality on the Saturday and Southern Gauteng on the Sunday - that meant mtb races fitting around this.
  8. Thanks Slowbee, but I sure am getting old, when I think about how I used to tackle these things. Just about choking on the tact and diplomacy, but the doc says it's the only way Medical Aid will cover me in the event of a seizure.
  9. This is a funny OLD story - the incident & start of the thread was Oct last year and then the OP re-heats it today. This is the deal on the insurance - but no explanation as to why they wont pay out. It's intriguing and I'm sure a lot is not being said. Makes my hyper-nosey. Posted on the Bike Insurance Thread last night: "So whatever you do stay away from I-Cycle. I was robbed at gun poit from my bike. It happened in a parking lot and was too far way for the camera's. After 2 months and treating me like I'm a traffic light begger they rejected my claim. But still up to now they have been more too happy to take my monthly debit order. Taken it to the ombudsman now and waiting for a verdict. Nobody should have to wait almost 5 months to have their bike replaced. The sad thing is if it happened in the veld they probably wouldn't have had a problem. Save yourself the stress and the bullsh1t. Stay away from them. My wife's bike is with the rest of our stuff at Discovery. Great service and great prices"
  10. I would just like to point out that 6'4" and 100kgs is not a "big fat bastard", whereas 140kgs most likely is. These are sizeist remarks that I,...... I mean that my larger friends object to and insist they be retracted. cc: Sue M, Grabbit and Runne - solicitors.
  11. Got a reply from the race office to my e-mail saying that all seeding queries would be sorted out at registration.
  12. You're right not to make commitments for the Sunday, for me it goes by in a blur & my social skills are worse than normal.
  13. No worries, over any of that.
  14. It's clearly a religious quote/question and not a blasphemy of any kind......bud.
  15. Another religious devotee seeing no need to connect it to morality.....or reality.
  16. In that case you have my sympathy & it means the race isnt really a race, its "an event".
  17. It's only B to F at 1 min intervals, and I'm guessing that's because there are very few mugs in those groups who would hold things up.
  18. Joggers plodding, many-a-breast, towards cyclists is a problem, the fatter slower ones seem to be the worst. Same as the cyclists who shout at other cyclists, if you're good you just get on with it.
  19. I think the organizers can make a bigger play on this in the pre-race info, but more especially before each start group sets off. I cant remember ever being told from the start line not to drop litter.
  20. About the most frightening post i have seen in 8 years on the Hub. My advice to a "gun noob" (good grief!)? Stay home.
  21. Ok so we're agreed, its not just for "gentle commuting...." etc.
  22. I dont think that its "Obviously, .... for gentle commuting to and from the shops, school, library etc......" the dutch have a huge & varied cycling scene. If they were in an event as you describe, i expect you would see a lot of helmets.
  23. Just started the 2nd time now on low carb - which basically means cut out/reduce greatly, sugar (inc. fruit) and flour. 5 days in and lost a kg and feel much better, though thinking ahead for food plans is a schlep. Thats why i gave it up last time, having lost 5kgs in 5 weeks, it does get involving. Getting to realise that as i get older, my bod doesnt deal with sugar/refined carbs very well and I cant shift the weight any other way. The biggest benefit of this approach is you dont have the hunger cycle that the hi-GI carbs sets off.
  24. And in other news - Slower Western Cape cyclists show a marked improvement in their training times
