  1. The ineptitude of the police in that video FFS!
  2. I see it is an old photo and nice fish, I discourage people to take the cob of that size out as they make up the breeding stock. Take a picture, set him free! We catch them up north during winter in those sizes, here in KZN in those sizes we refer to it as Daga Salmon.
  3. We introduced the kids to it two weeks ago. I thought my eldest would eventually split he was laughing so much!
  4. The Garrick line...yes baby!
  5. During one of the SAP's advanced COIN courses in 1990 we were training at one of the SAP's "training farms" called Verdrag. It's about 30-40km's from Thabazimbi. It's on a valley floor with the Sandrivierberge on one side and the Hoekberge not too far away. During a training block one Saturday afternoon we scaled a high koppie as a reconnaissance training operation and then to exfiltrate in the late afternoon with gathered info back to our stick. About 14:00 as the bushveld sun beat the crap out of my buddy and I, the boys from Hoedspruit did some low flying along the valley floor in their Cheetahs, passing right below us in a semi turn towards Thabazimbi and then about 40 minutes later returned on the same path in level flight. The two of us had grins the size of China for days on end telling about that luck. We did also capture all inscriptions visible in the period they passed helmet colours etc. About two years ago I was having dinner in a hotel in JHB al by lonesome when I overheard a chap tell the same story to a few mates, I walked over, shook hands with an old buddy and the rest is the story of old friendships rekindled.
  6. Don't know if he has replied to you yet - yes, he works in that field and has assisted me on two occasions with the identification of crustaceans. He's a top guy and once gave me an old pair of clip-less pedals that gathered dust in the garage!
  7. In that area you'll be in the Maharani/Elangeni or even the Blue Waters Hotel...the beach precinct is fine there with a lovely stretch to walk and the North Beach area is generally fine. Take a walk up to SunCoast pay the beach access fee and enjoy a nice clean beach. Edit: Sepia will have the "finer" details, but you should hook up with him, he could teach you guys a truck load about the marine life et al in that area.
  8. Most importantly, start off on normal rotary motion, 6mm's down, turn to hammer and bombs away...

    Who remembers?

We used to have a chirp to a buddy that got out of hand or too "windgat" for everyone's liking by asking them..."hey boet, het Jet Jungle in jou pap gekak?"
  10. Somewhere in 2005-2006 whilst with a friend of mine at Virginia airfield, one of these were just unpacked and assembled in the hanger at the south end of the runway... http://www.warbirdalley.com/images/SeaFury-N79SF-550.jpg Hawker Sea Fury, she was in British colours and the cool mechanic allowed me onto the steps to peer into the cockpit. I must've walked around that bird for 50 laps, I just could not get enough of it. i wonder who might be owner as it was an airworthy frame?
  11. Yip, going nearly five years without that useless cr*p. If you miss DSTV you're probably someones mother in law.
  12. Welgedaan! Really great outcome for a first try!
  13. Hmm...Rooikrans is acacia cyclops and defined as a coastal invasive shrub, it is never referred to as wattle, the below three are wattles. Wattle of which there are black, green and silver is acacia mearnsii (black), dealbata (silver), decurrens (green). Great for the fire place, shite for the braai!
  14. That dear Sir, is a labrahole dog. Their keen sense of smell (not their bellies so much) drives them to do all manner of wild and interesting things. Digging holes because their noses tells them to do so is top priority, the bin bag is usually a second, but wold probably be a first if bin day was every day. O yes, and when they get bored they chew things. They're great dogs and if you're not a vigilant owner, they teach you to become one
  15. It did off coarse come from a good place, no question about it and it is moving. Like I said, it's not my favourite type of tribute, but it was long overdue for Johnny Clegg regardless.
  16. I'm not particularly fond of this type of thing either, especially when Ard Matthews and Kahn Morebee is invited (not to even mention Van Coke), however, Johnny Clegg is battling cancer and from a South African perspective, long overdue. We hear you.
  17. I'm a Glegg fanboy of note. I miss hardly anything he puts out and eventually unearth it if it's out there. We had the kids around the TV last night showing them the video, both my children have seen him live at least twice so it's a family affair. Johnny and Jesse's bond is amazing!
  18. ...but definitely not better, but it may occupy some space here
  19. I went to his farewell concert in Durban, this is just super dooper special. Me, I also shed a tear!
  20. Where's Charlie Cooper now, he could've fixed that puffadder
  21. When I used to spend a lot of time turning, I quickly realised pine is not your friend on the lathe. need to work at a constant high speed with sharp tools and still it looks like shite when you done. Then over to the sanding grids to complete. Pine is not for turning
  22. Tisk, tisk, the side I was referring to was your reference to the thread, but I believe you knew that.
  23. Nah, I'm happy on this side, I don't need to "stroke" your online ego to make me feel good, I'm sure you'll find some hubber/s that will oblige.
  24. I know I'm late to another riveting edition of "Eat Your F&*^%$G veggies", however, let me make one correction about the rain forests and specifically the rain forests of Brazil and South America in particular; - Their destruction is linked not so much to the meat industry as it is to the mono-cultural industries of soya, maize and root vegetables (no, not to feed to cows but so that vegetarian and vegan industries like pseudo hamburger patties and sausages can be made) - their destruction is also linked to the socio-economic ills caused by their governments and not really so much to meat farming as you want it to look like. And yes I know you are the "Johovas Witness of Vegan Everything" and you'll be able to quote pages from your library of stashed articles to us corpse eaters, but not everything in the worlds demise is linked to meat eating even if you want it to be.
