    Longer Stem?

the reason i thought of a longer stem is because at the moment the front wheel feels "heavy" when i move left to right. almost like a delayed reaction.. the weight feels like it right at the front of the wheel. so by moving the stem further forward and bringing the bars more to the center of the wheel... would this not give sharper steering? my bars are pretty wide. about 710mm.

    Longer Stem?

Ah... never thought of that..... but now, does anyone know if they make a 100mm 31.6 stem? as i have a 90mm.

    Longer Stem?

Guys, i am not uncomfortable on my bike. As it is i am uber comfy! my first bike was a Giant Yukon Large- 20" H/T. i then moved to a Medium 18" D/S. and the difference was night and day! i had far better control and cornering on the Medium! my riding improved. i then got the Medium 29 as the large felt very long and slow to react. i had both a large and medium test bike for a week each and did about 200km with each. the medium just clicked and i love this bike. again, my riding has improved.... i was just thinking over the weekend that "IF" i had to put a 10mm longer stem on, just to bring me over the front wheel a slight/touch/tad/bietjie/ball hair/Gnats C*ck more IF it would handle a bit sharper..... as it is set up now, i have the plum line through center of pedal axle... and the rest... :) all i was asking was weather it would make a difference to move 10mm further, and who makes a stem that is 31.6mm and will fit the fork stem that came with my bike... ? :) ride what you are comfy with!

    Longer Stem?

Yes. because as i mentioned, if i move the seat back them i kick the air in front and lower back gets sore quickly. the position i have now gives me a comfy down stroke, but just feel if i moved a bit forward i might gain a bit more nippy control. ??? hence my question about stems that will if the 31.6 stem of the fork.

    Longer Stem?

not exactly, if i do that then my riding position moves further back and my legs then pedal "in Front" of me and i dont have the direct down pedal. its like im kicking the air in front of me! i have moved my seat forward and this has brought the position closer.... and i have a much straighter down stroke. what i have noticed is that my lower doesn't get sore anymore since on the 29er... well it does, but only after about 50-60km. both bikes are mediums! im 1.84m tall. im comfortable as i am, kind of, im just thinking that if i move forward 10mm on the stem i might have a bit more "direct" steering through the single track as at the moment it feeling almost like im riding a reign with the wheel forward geometry...

    Longer Stem?

I recently got a new anthem, (bought a complete bike, not built up) with an 90mm stem. My old Anthem had a 100mm stem. here is the issue. the new anthem is a 29'er, with the Giant connect stem. my old anthem was a 26'er with 100mm KCNC stem. i have noticed that the 90mm stem makes the front wheel too far forward, this could be because of the larger wheel.? i have a very close riding position from saddle to end of stem and i was thinking that if i put a slightly longer stem on the 29/er this might help the wheel forward feeling. so i stripped the 90mm stem off and tried the KCNC.... only to find that the KCNC stem is too narrow to fit over the fork stem...?? i measured the fork stem and it is 31.6mm while the KCNC Stem is 28.7. i did fit my other SID and fox fork i had on the 26'er...... now im wonder if giant have not had the fork made specifically for the anther 29'er ( as i mentioned i bought a full bike) and it has the original stem and slight riser bar on. even the riser bar is too big for the KCNC stem. ?? am i missing something here? who makes a decent 100mm stem that is 31.6mm and will take the Giant bar? or will the bar need replacing too?? thanks.
  7. You have both rietvlei and thaba trails right on your door step... well... out skirts of Alberton toward vereeniging... just off swartkoppies....
  8. your lack of understanding of the situation and then publicly slating someone is the action of a Knob... and a tiny knob at that.... shame.....
  9. they are Giant P-XC2 rims. dont know much about these rims. maybe someone else can answer your question. when i bough them i was told that they are tubeless ready...??
  10. Shot, will do the conversion and see how it goes....
  11. So what you are saying is that i can convert and use normal non UST/tubeless tires and if i keep them at 2.5+ i should be fine? remember i was getting snake bites at 2.5bar.... so with tubless and non ust tires, wont burping be a possibility? ill be running the Rocket Rons until they are dead then probably go with Crossmarks or the ikons. 2.1's. will this influence the "stability" on the rim? currently have the 2.25 RR.
  12. i have the Giant P-XC2 rims, they came with the bike. currently running tubes and racing ralph's @ 3bar. Im 110k and anything lower i get snake bites. well, i have not yet had a snake bite on this bike but my previous bikes i had plenty. before i bought my bike, i had a test bike, (29er with the same rims and tires) and was running @2.5bar. i had a snake bite at Groenkloof along the fence near fountains. now im wanting to go tubeless... so the question is, are these P-XC2 rims tubeless read/tubeless and can i do the conversion with NON-tubeless tires and still run @3 bar? might try 2.8 too. Or will i have issues with side walls etc....?
  13. Not Yet.... im still trying to decide what to do, just get newer better V brakes or go the Disk route at the rear... ive been looking for the adapter on the rear hub for disk brake, but no luck yet. and i just have not had time to get it to YS. also been looking at a front disk conversion but that means new fork and so far one here sells Tandem rated front forks that are disk brake compatible.
  14. Its EXACTLY this attitude that will get cycling into more disrepute... I did the MTB argus a few weeks back and on the start line the one guy tossed his Banana skin into the Vineyard on the side... (now keep this in mind... the Boschendal wine farm opens ONLY for this event... EXCLUSIVELY for the MTB Argus....) the announcer asked him to go pick it up... he argued... the announcer then TOLD him to go pick it up... in front of everyone.... his one mate then decided to chirp in and told him not to go pick it up..... there were bins every 40m about and one with in 5meter from him at the time..... the other cyclists around gave him SUCH stick then he left and went and stood else where... Now how cool would it be if 5-6000 riders all dumped there peels in the vineyards... NOT!!!!! We were/are privileged to be able to ride in the place we do and why anyone would intentionally litter is beyond me... its probably THE MOST ARROGANT thing a cyclist can do.... would you like riders to throw there peels into your yard?? post you address so we can all ride by and gooi our peels in your garden... would that be cool? so why do it to.... even in the streets! and i BET its the same guys who drive down the road and complain about the litter on the side of the road.....
  15. thanks for the info Johan, Right now i also need my wheels re built soon, but i will come and chat to with the bike so you can see what in talking about.
  16. My Frame does have the mounts for the Disk Brake and the threaded hub, so i think thats good to go. now i just need a 203mm rotor, brake caliper and a wheel rebuild.... Johan, where does one get these adapters? i have Tektro brakes with those pulley things and they are very poor.... the front still squeal VERY loud and the rear just "slow the tandem down" pull as hard as you like.... the Disk im sure will stop the bike!
  17. Can anyone recommend a Rear Hub that is Disk compatible for a Tandem or would any rear hub be compatible? even a MTB Hub??
  18. yeah, i am also going to have my wheels rebuilt.... and thinking about going with disc brake at the rear too as the brakes on our tandem are STILL not stopping us!
  19. By compound the problem, what do you mean? would the tire come off the rim too easily?? i did not that had i had "slime" in the tubes the punctures would have sealed..... the holes are very small but enough to let the wheel down.... why is slime a no-no...??
  20. RoryMac i'm suspecting something like this.... while i did do a check on the rim and tape and it does seem old.... there are no signs of breaking through.... Why would a tubeless conversion not be great for a road bike/tandem? Besides the pressure, surely it would reduce punctures?
  21. Right... so did the Argus on said Tandem.... 45km in- Flat in the rear wheel...... put new tube in.... at 90km, at the very top of suikerbossie... another flat in the rear wheel... new tube... finish the Argus... the following morning... rear wheel FLAT!!!! FFS!!!!!!!!!!! that is now 5 flats in 3 rides... 4 in the rear, 1 in the front....can this STILL be BAD luck??? of the three tubes, one had a hole on the INSIDE of the rim there no thorn/glass can get to it right next to where the valve comes out of the rim, the second tube had the hole about 3/4 away round from the valve... Also against the rim....... so it seems the tubes are being poked from "inside".... ??? none of them have been on the tire side.... all on the rim side but in various placed along the rim?? this after taking the bike to a very well know dealer and asking them to check the wheels and make sure they are true etc.... and it gets worse... while riding... the screw holding the cable on the rear derailure comes loose and i have no gears... so had to set gear on the side of the road.... then, just before chappies... i hear this grinding/clunk noise.... but not only when we pedaled... when free wheeling down the other side... stop and TWO spokes have come loose on the rear wheel.... so hobbled into the Complete cyclists mechanic station, ( thanks Guys) and they tightened the two spokes but the noise persisted.... we finished the race lucky..... but im very disappointed in the bike shop and myself for the mechanical failures...
  22. Hi Built over my 26er 3x9 22/34/44 and 11-34 on to my 29er and i i think i have kept the same gearing taking wheel size and gears into account. i know have a 22/34 for hills and i dont spin out as much as i did on the 26" and it actually keeps my legs at the right cadence and effort and i have a 44/11 for the flats and downs.... very happy!
  23. Slabs, i think that was the one, was she a Brunette with Blackish sunglasses... and saggies on her chest?
  24. Danseuse, im sure someone will back me up here..... :) @ Wannebe, nice when that happens!
  25. Guys, who saw the lady (on the Left of the road toward Misty cliffs on the down hill) wearing Bikini Bottom and she was topless..!! those who saw her, what would you guess her age to be? my tandem partner and I have a argument going, i say she was in her 30's, but HEAVY sun damaged!!! and she recons that the woman was in her 50-60's..! (how is this for a random post )
