    Tire wont seal.

So ive just checked my rear tire, still at 2.5bar where i left it on sat morning, so that one is sealing well. even with the green tape still in place. ?? i noticed that on both the wheels, the green tape has a pre-cut hole larger than the actual hole in the rim. when i pulled the new rim tape- American classic UST tape, over rim i made sure it was even and smooth. i then took a compass needle point and poked a tiny hole through the new rim tape and pushed the valve through slowly and carefully. the hole through the tape only went as big as the valve stem and when i seated it it looked perfect!! everything was tight and neat! when i did the pumping up, still leaked! ive done this 3 time now on the front. the rear sealed first go! and two other wheels i did on Friday are still sealed and holding pressure... just a bum valve???? i will get some more rim tape and take the green tape off. and try again.
  3. Ive done the tubeless conversion on my Giant PX-2 rims. i bought rim tape and Stan's valves and sealant. the rear tire seems to be holding out fine. i am using non-tubeless tires (rocket rons that came with the bike) but its not leaking at the bead.... it is leaking at the valve...... not matter what i have tried, it just keeps leaking... the air is escaping from under the collar that screws onto the valve to keep it in place. ive tried various different levels of tightening to get that rubber seal on the valve to close as tight as possible and them ive tried just finger tight.... i then pump it up to about 3.5bar and it seals... i run the tired under water to test for leaks, nothing.... but.... after say 5hours i can feel the pressure is lower than he pumped pressure... i pumped it up to 3.5bar at 10:30pm last night, checked with water, no leaks... this morning at 7:30am, flat flat.... what i did notice is that it took about three pumps and the tire was inflating already.... over the weekend it would take about 20 very fast pumps to get it "seated" but the air was still leaking at the valve...... as i pump harder it slows down to virtually non detectable! but its still leaking! WOW... long winded there... sorry... the Question.... HOW do i get the valve to seal? i noticed that the rims comes with like a green strip of tape, to protect the tube from the holes i guess, must this be removed and new "tubeless" tape put over the holes? because i noticed that this tape was off center to the valve hole. i straightened this and tried again.... Still no luck..... any ideas??
  4. I have Shimano road levers on our tandem with a 9speed shimano LX rear Derailure... works just fine!
  5. Cool, thanks guys! Like i said, my missus does not do very fast or technical riding! i just wanted to know what is the best trier of the two for the front! these will last her for a few years!
  6. thanks guys! Ralph rear, Ron front! there will be no racing with these wheels.... my lass rides social and very easy.... so these will hold out for her. its what came with the bike as spares. never been on rims yet.
  7. So when i got my fiancees Bike, it came with new Rocket Ron and Racing Ralph. we are now putting these tires on. Which is best for front and rear? never used the Schwalbe brand before. cheers.
  8. Exactly that!!!! that is why they got my R35k on a new bike and some spares! even though they are further for me, they were very helpful and the prices were way below anyone else in JHB! NO "attitudes" or "personalities" like some others i know of!

WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING WHEN YOU GET TO A NEW PLACE AND RIDE WITH NO HELMET! ?? if you took the time to read the rules, NO HELMET NO RIDE... so now you think you are clever and better than the rules and decide to do your own thing?? this is a sure fire way to get the park shut, if your Stupid as* comes off your bike and you are left even MORE brain damaged!!!! FFS!! what are you trying to do, "F" it up before it starts??? yes, you know who you are!!! you blady chop! Can i PLEASE ask the organizers/grant.gate staff to stop anyone from riding with no helmet! all its going to do is poke it for the rest of us!

    Longer Stem?

the reason i thought of a longer stem is because at the moment the front wheel feels "heavy" when i move left to right. almost like a delayed reaction.. the weight feels like it right at the front of the wheel. so by moving the stem further forward and bringing the bars more to the center of the wheel... would this not give sharper steering? my bars are pretty wide. about 710mm.

    Longer Stem?

Ah... never thought of that..... but now, does anyone know if they make a 100mm 31.6 stem? as i have a 90mm.

    Longer Stem?

Guys, i am not uncomfortable on my bike. As it is i am uber comfy! my first bike was a Giant Yukon Large- 20" H/T. i then moved to a Medium 18" D/S. and the difference was night and day! i had far better control and cornering on the Medium! my riding improved. i then got the Medium 29 as the large felt very long and slow to react. i had both a large and medium test bike for a week each and did about 200km with each. the medium just clicked and i love this bike. again, my riding has improved.... i was just thinking over the weekend that "IF" i had to put a 10mm longer stem on, just to bring me over the front wheel a slight/touch/tad/bietjie/ball hair/Gnats C*ck more IF it would handle a bit sharper..... as it is set up now, i have the plum line through center of pedal axle... and the rest... :) all i was asking was weather it would make a difference to move 10mm further, and who makes a stem that is 31.6mm and will fit the fork stem that came with my bike... ? :) ride what you are comfy with!

    Longer Stem?

Yes. because as i mentioned, if i move the seat back them i kick the air in front and lower back gets sore quickly. the position i have now gives me a comfy down stroke, but just feel if i moved a bit forward i might gain a bit more nippy control. ??? hence my question about stems that will if the 31.6 stem of the fork.

    Longer Stem?

not exactly, if i do that then my riding position moves further back and my legs then pedal "in Front" of me and i dont have the direct down pedal. its like im kicking the air in front of me! i have moved my seat forward and this has brought the position closer.... and i have a much straighter down stroke. what i have noticed is that my lower doesn't get sore anymore since on the 29er... well it does, but only after about 50-60km. both bikes are mediums! im 1.84m tall. im comfortable as i am, kind of, im just thinking that if i move forward 10mm on the stem i might have a bit more "direct" steering through the single track as at the moment it feeling almost like im riding a reign with the wheel forward geometry...

    Longer Stem?

I recently got a new anthem, (bought a complete bike, not built up) with an 90mm stem. My old Anthem had a 100mm stem. here is the issue. the new anthem is a 29'er, with the Giant connect stem. my old anthem was a 26'er with 100mm KCNC stem. i have noticed that the 90mm stem makes the front wheel too far forward, this could be because of the larger wheel.? i have a very close riding position from saddle to end of stem and i was thinking that if i put a slightly longer stem on the 29/er this might help the wheel forward feeling. so i stripped the 90mm stem off and tried the KCNC.... only to find that the KCNC stem is too narrow to fit over the fork stem...?? i measured the fork stem and it is 31.6mm while the KCNC Stem is 28.7. i did fit my other SID and fox fork i had on the 26'er...... now im wonder if giant have not had the fork made specifically for the anther 29'er ( as i mentioned i bought a full bike) and it has the original stem and slight riser bar on. even the riser bar is too big for the KCNC stem. ?? am i missing something here? who makes a decent 100mm stem that is 31.6mm and will take the Giant bar? or will the bar need replacing too?? thanks.
  23. You have both rietvlei and thaba trails right on your door step... well... out skirts of Alberton toward vereeniging... just off swartkoppies....
  24. your lack of understanding of the situation and then publicly slating someone is the action of a Knob... and a tiny knob at that.... shame.....
  25. they are Giant P-XC2 rims. dont know much about these rims. maybe someone else can answer your question. when i bough them i was told that they are tubeless ready...??
