  1. Why is that?? i have taken my bike to two well know places and BOTH could not sort the issue....?? i still get punctures on the inside of the tube...?? i was told to just forget slime and tubeless wheels on a road bike and i just wanted to know why? am i "hardkoppig en het weird idees" because i questioned you? Eccentric1, i have allot of respect for you and your Knowledge is way superior to mine and you have given me very helpful advise, which i have followed myself and had bike shops/professionals check out but still i get flats?? after i have done everything i was told to do?? Now i am trying to get to the bottom of my issues again and i get labeled "hardkoppig en het weird idees" ?? anyway... i will keep asking stupid questions and i will eventually sort the issue out. but thank you for all your help thus far on this thread and all the other threads! its been great and has helped me out allot!
  2. i have checked the tubes, over and over, the puncture is in a different place every time, i check the tire where the corresponding hole in the tube is and there is no thorn or anything continual. out of the last 6 punctures in the last two rides, two have been on the side, and 4 have been on the inside of the tube against the rim... all in different places though. so there is something up i will strip the wheels and clean them, re tape and see what happens. actually, i might just go for w full wheel rebuild, including hub service as there is a crunching noise coming from the rear wheel somewhere... on the argus we cold go much quicker that 45km/h... noise started about 200m before the top of Chapmans... we "limped" to the finish!
  3. So, back on this... new tubes and tires.....didnt have the wheels rebuilt as i had two places check them out and say they are fine----- and what do you know... yeah! PUNCTURE!!!! now i will definitely have them rebuilt!

wrt to the tire coming off the rim, this is why i dont wanna ride a pressure that too low.... and the main reason is that im NOT using proper tubeless tires. im running Schwalbe's Racing Ralph's ( i thought it was Rocket Rons but was mistaken) 2.25's i think. was using tubes with slim in. These tires HAVE seen better days and its what i have so i have to use them... i am using the Std rims that come with the 2012 Giant anthem X 0, PX-2 i believe?? would LOVE to get a proper tubeless rim set but alas... not in the near future... my next move will be to get new tires- im thinking Maxxis Ikons or GearX Saguaro's? also, since taking out tubes and slime, i reduced the weight of my bike by 800g. added sealant and it came down to about 550. so half a kilo off. i know is not worth anything and tubeless conversion is not a weight saving exercise, but im happy with the weight loss. with new tires i should at least be back to where i was... side note, switched my ladies bikes wheels to as set of Fulcrums red metal 3's (26") and we took 2kgs off her bike. (also the reason why i wont see a new set of wheel for a while)

Not sure Yet, but when i was running tubes i suffered badly with snake bites at anything below 2.8 at the rear and 2.5 in front. my weight plays a role here too. (110kg) In realy rough stuff i needed to go to 3 at the rear and 2.8 in the front. Yesterdays ride was sedate and slow and i stayed off the rough technical stuff... bike felt nice at 2 bar though, so i might test these pressure and take it from there. Most guys are on like 1.5-1.8 bar on tubeless? i know a bit of a generalization, though research indicated that these are the pressure used... but that's sub 100kg guys... im heavy and ride very hard so i think i will test 2 bar first, if anything i will go a touch harder, maybe to 2.2 all round. still down from 2.8 and 2.5. dont know if they will stay sealed at lower pressure... like i said, when trying to seal them i tried high pressure and they went flat, lower pressures just to get the sealant working.. went flat... but when i got to groenies, i set pressure at 2bar down from 2.5 and they seemed to be sealed now... but will keep an eye on them.

So went for a quick ride yesterday. and this morning the tires are still pumped at 2bar where i left them yesterday. looks like its sealed, but for how long we shall see... :)

    Tire wont seal.

BlooHubs! will give that a try! i did a 20km ride this afternoon and they held out! will check in the morning. i have about 120ml in each tire, they are 29" ? is this too little??

    Tire wont seal.

So ive just checked my rear tire, still at 2.5bar where i left it on sat morning, so that one is sealing well. even with the green tape still in place. ?? i noticed that on both the wheels, the green tape has a pre-cut hole larger than the actual hole in the rim. when i pulled the new rim tape- American classic UST tape, over rim i made sure it was even and smooth. i then took a compass needle point and poked a tiny hole through the new rim tape and pushed the valve through slowly and carefully. the hole through the tape only went as big as the valve stem and when i seated it it looked perfect!! everything was tight and neat! when i did the pumping up, still leaked! ive done this 3 time now on the front. the rear sealed first go! and two other wheels i did on Friday are still sealed and holding pressure... just a bum valve???? i will get some more rim tape and take the green tape off. and try again.
  12. Ive done the tubeless conversion on my Giant PX-2 rims. i bought rim tape and Stan's valves and sealant. the rear tire seems to be holding out fine. i am using non-tubeless tires (rocket rons that came with the bike) but its not leaking at the bead.... it is leaking at the valve...... not matter what i have tried, it just keeps leaking... the air is escaping from under the collar that screws onto the valve to keep it in place. ive tried various different levels of tightening to get that rubber seal on the valve to close as tight as possible and them ive tried just finger tight.... i then pump it up to about 3.5bar and it seals... i run the tired under water to test for leaks, nothing.... but.... after say 5hours i can feel the pressure is lower than he pumped pressure... i pumped it up to 3.5bar at 10:30pm last night, checked with water, no leaks... this morning at 7:30am, flat flat.... what i did notice is that it took about three pumps and the tire was inflating already.... over the weekend it would take about 20 very fast pumps to get it "seated" but the air was still leaking at the valve...... as i pump harder it slows down to virtually non detectable! but its still leaking! WOW... long winded there... sorry... the Question.... HOW do i get the valve to seal? i noticed that the rims comes with like a green strip of tape, to protect the tube from the holes i guess, must this be removed and new "tubeless" tape put over the holes? because i noticed that this tape was off center to the valve hole. i straightened this and tried again.... Still no luck..... any ideas??
  13. I have Shimano road levers on our tandem with a 9speed shimano LX rear Derailure... works just fine!
  14. Cool, thanks guys! Like i said, my missus does not do very fast or technical riding! i just wanted to know what is the best trier of the two for the front! these will last her for a few years!
  15. thanks guys! Ralph rear, Ron front! there will be no racing with these wheels.... my lass rides social and very easy.... so these will hold out for her. its what came with the bike as spares. never been on rims yet.
  16. So when i got my fiancees Bike, it came with new Rocket Ron and Racing Ralph. we are now putting these tires on. Which is best for front and rear? never used the Schwalbe brand before. cheers.
  17. Exactly that!!!! that is why they got my R35k on a new bike and some spares! even though they are further for me, they were very helpful and the prices were way below anyone else in JHB! NO "attitudes" or "personalities" like some others i know of!

WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING WHEN YOU GET TO A NEW PLACE AND RIDE WITH NO HELMET! ?? if you took the time to read the rules, NO HELMET NO RIDE... so now you think you are clever and better than the rules and decide to do your own thing?? this is a sure fire way to get the park shut, if your Stupid as* comes off your bike and you are left even MORE brain damaged!!!! FFS!! what are you trying to do, "F" it up before it starts??? yes, you know who you are!!! you blady chop! Can i PLEASE ask the organizers/grant.gate staff to stop anyone from riding with no helmet! all its going to do is poke it for the rest of us!
