  1. I think The Hub is what each of us makes of it. If one chooses to get caught up in all the cr~p, then some recourse from the mods and other users is to be expected. On any online forum, this type of behavior will always happen. How each of us chooses to deal with it should be up to us. After all, most of us are adults. I for one do enjoy the banter that inevitably makes its way into many threads. The name of the game should be respect. Don't confuse fun and banter with a lack of respect. I only read the OP, so if this thread has gone pear shaped already, sorry to make it all serious again...

    Polar V800

I used a Polar CS600x and more recently an RCX5 (for the multi-sport stuff). Both units worked beautifully. Initially I used the G3 GPS unit and upgraded to the G5 when it was released (G3's battery life was limited to around 3hrs on a rechargeable penlight battery vs. around 20hrs on the G5). They were both great, I loved the fact that the RCX5 would read HR whilst swimming as well. I'm quite forgetful so having to remember one extra item every time I rode became a pain in the ~ss. Having to remember when last it was all charged was also a problem. Although the units themselves had seemingly endless battery life, the fact that the memory in either unit was very limited became a problem for me as well. I've subsequently changed to the Garmin Edge 510 and Forerunner 910XT. Although both need charging as does the Polar GPS unit, at least there is some sort of meter telling one how long to go before losing power.I also have one less thing to forget. The Polar units above were my third and fourth Polar products and I must say, although the last two had user changeable batteries, I do not miss having to either make an appointment with the guys in Midrand to get repairs and other maintenance done or the alternative of taking it into a dealer and waiting a week. Garmin has sorted this out very well. After all of this, I never had a software issue with Polar in all the years I used one, not the same for Garmin. I resisted the move to Garmin for ages after loads of "Garmin pressure" from my friends. Having eventually made the move though, I think the total experience with Garmin vs. Polar has converted me for the foreseeable future. I still miss lots of stuff about the Polar units though and am jealous when I see my wife wearing my RCX5 when she heads off on her run every morning...
  3. I always go commando, no cream on the gooch and I'm all good back there. I'm not sure how my stuff gets washed though, the laundry faeries seem to to replace them fairly quickly after use. The shorts have lasted well and bear no real effects of overuse. I tried wearing underwear once and the humiliation I suffered from my mates was unbearable. I'd rather chafe to be honest.
  4. 100% to the OP. At the same time however, I must also make mention of public parks where pedestrians fail to control their dogs adequately. Most of the time the pooches are off the leashes and their owners fail to even try and control them thus causing a lot of danger to both cyclists and pedestrians alike. Even when slowing down for both dogs and peeps, I've come really close to coming off due to uncontrolled dogs. I think the name of the game here for everyone is mutual respect for all other park users be they on foot or on the bike!!!
  5. Actually, it sounds laak a naas deal...
  6. Maybe the bike manufacturer for for making a bike that quick without providing adequate protection to the rider?
  7. Bump, partly 'cos I'm bored. I have however managed to raise around R14K for my cause. I'm swimming around 10km a week and feeling pretty good. Given the awesome response I've had I'm now aiming for R20k #justsaying
  8. I just picked up a set of ZTR Arch EX's (I weigh 95kg, so the Crests were not an option) hooked up to hope hubs, tailor made by CWC to order (color scheme of hubs, spokes and nipples as requested). Cost me R5,500 + around R500 to have shipped to JHB. These wheels are great, so are CWC.
  9. I run geax saguaro 2.2 on the front, not problem in any conditions with grip. The rear has a geax mezcal 2.1 which holds on pretty tight in anything except mud
  10. I'm with you on this. Ordered a new set of wheels for my bike some weeks ago, not only did they humour me over the phone while I rattled off my "requirements", but gave great advice where I was "off" and delivered the completed wheelset (to JHB) way ahead of the promised time. Had been waiting for a certain bike laboratory to source a set of wheels for me for over 10 weeks. They even looked a little disappointed when I walked in with my new wheels to have them installed with new disk rotors etc. Not only did I take pleasure in informing them of the speedy turnaround time, but also when I told the what CWC has charged me for the build. I was bit of a pain in the ass asking for specific coloured nipples and spokes etc. and CWC didn't skip a beat. Now for a Jo'burg store, Fourways if you can, and preferably in blue, to go with my bike
  11. I got the same wheels a few weeks ago and all is in order. Wheel building seems to be something of an art. Could it be that your tires are not seated straight? I'd make them fix the problem and repair the forks they forked up.
  12. Chritso Willemse just made me a set of 29er wheels. They are awesome and made them to spec after I called them and chatted about what I was looking for. Also only took 1 day for delivery after they were ready. Give them a try.
  13. When upgrading the brakes to XT, I also changed the rotors to XT Ice Tech (180mm front and 160mm rear). Great improvement on the Avid Elixr 7's all round.
  14. Well, I posted the pic of my newly arrived XT Brakeset a few days ago, now, I also thought some fresh wheels were in order, so Mr. Willemse was kind enough to throw some together for me and ship them up to JHB. Here's the bike with new brakes & disks + new wheels ready for collection yesterday...
  15. Got these and picked up the bike yesterday. CWC was great, customized for me with blue nipples etc. to match the bike's color scheme. Rode them this morning and very happy. Thanks for the advice...  The finished product...
  16. Naaice bike is all I can say. Many happy km's
  17. All good, ordered what i was looking for.
  18. This is what my wife got me for my birthday last week. Nespresso online even delivers the coffee...
  19. Anyone remember where to get those HTFU headset caps?
  20. Look what Mr. Wiggle.co.uk delivered for me today...
  21. Ya, not everyone used a timing chip. No chip = No official time
  22. That guy's not made from the same sh~t as we are tho
  23. 4:08:48 Super stoked after 6 months off the bike and only 2 x 15km Spruit rides and the 55km MTB challenge the week before as prep. Peter Stuyvesant hasn't really helped my cause in the last six months either.
  24. I rode all by myself and managed a sub 4:09. Last year, all by myself and managed a sub 3:42. Why? I couldn't stick with the bunch either time. Sub 3 is sub 3. If you don't agree, ride by yourself the whole way and go for your time like that! Just don't let actionphotos.net have any pics of you too close behind someone else tho...
