  1. I buy where I get the best price, a lot of (not all) shops have a distorted view of service vs profit. You get better service when you are one of the regulars who spend a lot of money in the shops.( Been there , done that :-)) i also think the wholsalers are to blame in a big way - these SRP's are bull... How can Kieran sell a top-end Bottecchia frame handmade in Italy at R19k vs any of the others. A top end CIOCC devilry (900gr ISP frame) can be supplied in SA at around R20k. I am on my way to Europe and have received quotes for a new Pinarello at 50% of the local price. Eat... or be eaten
  2. You dudes are funny - almost everyone flamed specialized for selling rip-off cloting. This bloke has set up up a freakin online shopping site and no one has a problem with that? I really don't mean to upset anyone, but isn't that a bit strange?
  3. Haai Ico, Dis maar n hostile site hierdie. Ek dink jy moet eerder iemand vra wat jy ken. Om 8 dae lank saam met n vreemdeling te ry wat se abilities nie dieselde is nie... eish! Groete Gerhard
  4. So? Do we have any new re pricing yet? These bikes look like the bizniz...
  5. For R240 more than a grand you can get an Etxeondo Press Bibshort - Trust me , you will not get better value for money bibs! Better than Santini, Assos, Castelli etc. Phone 0825519497 and find out who in CPT stocks them...
  6. Dude(s) , You lost a five year old bike, which was probably worth R6000 at best, now you want the shop to pay the difference between R10k and R20k, which is the difference between your settlement and the price of a new bike. Get real , the purpose of insurance is to put you in the same position as before you incurred any losses, which would be to give you a five year old bike worth about R6k - Anything better than that and you scored big time! As for the increase in premiums, if you don't intend claiming ever, because your premiums will go up, why the hell do you even bother with insurance. My MTB is 4 years old and is showing it... I wish I were as lucky as you as my bike insured for replacement value - I would have to pay in alittle bit and get a brand new bike. This is one of the better LBSs around...period. I have had someone drop a can of oil on my car at a dealer - moerse dent and what did they do - NOTHING (referred me to my job card) I have two friends who have had Polars "lost" by a LBS - a shrug of the shoulder and "I am sure you have collected it" was all they got. Stop dissing the shop, take the settlement, buy a new bike and get on with your life.
  7. Go BB! I know of many people who have had things "lost" or "stolen" while at bike shops and most bike shops just shrug their shoulders...
  8. As with most topics on the hubs - ppl are way off target. I'd say beat any of the online stores pirces and it is a good deal (well probably the best legal deal) - So R16 -R17k is probably a good price.
  9. But they often replace Broken Bianchis - so they should have refined the process by now
  10. If he is going to buy a bike, rather spend the R30k entry fee on a bike and go ride Joberg2C for 15k less... Much better race and more enjoyable!
  11. Stewie - seamless is nice and comfy I suppose, but I have had a couple of seamless bibs (i.e. chanois glued onto fabric) where the glue did not hold out and I had to chuck often very expensive bibs in the bin... Good old thread is better in the durability contest!
  12. Have a look at Etxeondo too, if not better than Assos then just as good an a bit cheaper - Bruce Reyneke Cycles 012 3621628 or Singletrack Cycles - 012 8092123. I recommend you ride with different bibs as they seem to chafe and put pressure in the same spot - I will be riding Etxeondo and Assos mostly. See you there...
  13. Arnie, he was the son of Bruce Reyneke and one of the most talented juniors out there... I have been riding with the club for 4,5 years now and saw Adam develop from being a kid on a tiny yellow Tommasini, to the massive talent that he was... We all watched in anticipation as he got faster and faster almost by the day. We are shattered and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. I will miss trying my best to chase Adam up Klapperkop on a Saturday...
  14. Also considered it, but he maintains that he will make a comeback...
  15. Forgot to mention , they are also authorised Lefty service centre and have gone through all the motions with Rock ShoX -previously Rock Shox had to be sent to the Cape
  16. Singletrack cycles 012 8092123
  17. I haven't been there for some time, went there yesterday with a newbie to the sport - all kitted out on his new Ellsworth Truth - 20mins in a fall and a broken wrist happened and we went home...but I'll be back.
  18. My bad , I was told it is the same frame by my LBS... But it had that intertwined H and M (High Modulus?) lettering on the top, where the seatsays meeat the seat tube?
  19. So I am a roadie, who does the occasional MTB ride. And I'm in for the Joberg2C - Bike needs new tyres as the front one has been on since 2008 Epic and has done some miles after that. Rear still OK-ish but some tar riding has killed the tread... I have been using Conti Mountain King 2.2 UST tyres for the last 3 years, but am hearing good things about the Race Kings. I am not too full of nonsense about grip/resistance etc. Waht tyres should I buy for Joberg2C - I'm thinking Mountain Kings again or race Kings?? Your comments are appreciated...as long as they are informative that is.
  20. [ Around R41k RRP for the frame / fork and BB30 crankset if im not mistaken? I'm not too sure about that as that frame with Ultegra build kit is ZAR36000 without pedals - complete...
  21. Prices are virtually the same all around... It is best to build a relationship with a shop, automatically you will get good service if you are a regular. Personally - I thnk the combo of Bennie and Hannes at Singletrack gets my vote, try them

check out www.selectcyclingclub.co.za or phone Bruce's 012 362 1628. Is not too far from Menlyn.
  23. Okay here goes... For a month or so before the event, rub some Methylated spirits (the purple stuff or die blou trein) on your nether regions twice a day. This makes the skin lekker tough... At the event - do the same( it cleans everything thoroughly, burns a bit, but not nearly as bad as one of Holy's "seertjies") and Milko Balm or Chamois cream. Sounds bad I know, but I was told to do this by a doctor. Did it before and during 2008 Epic. I went through all the corrugations and rough terrain of that particular year (966km) without as much as the thought of a saddlesore - on a hardtail!!!!!
  24. But the best has to be Graeme Cronje - The Crank Shop @ Harlequins Sports grounds - not too far from campus...
  25. Chances are you can't. I have a similar problem - have resorted to riding with them as scratched as they are, but at almost R3500 for the set, it doesn't look that bad...
