  1. I ahve been in the UK for the last 6 months, and have shopped around a bit. I ususally search by product and go where it is the cheapest... I have not bought from CRC since I got here. wiggle.com tredz.co.uk jejamescycles.co.uk Cyclesurgery.co.uk But to name a few...
  2. Get well soon Mad Dog! One of the main reasons why I have to deal with UK weather at the moment...damn shame really!
  3. Nope, 15%. Some clothing - depending on country of origin is 40%.
  4. I have also been charged duties on tyres in the past - think they probably ship it with the wrong code
  5. No one said LBS is cheaper...I said a good deal can be had. I recently (2 months ago) sent a Bianchi Oltre to SA for a friend, he ended up paying about R5-R7k less than the best price he could get in SA, and this is a R80k bike. And paid about 20% less than the UK list price... He waited about 2 months and I promise you he will have endless warranty hassles if it breaks. My 2c worth - do the mathematics properly before you make the purchase - 20% VAT in the UK quickly changes the price difference. What bike do you intend buying?
  6. Ed Zachary! At least nowadays the average rider is getting good value for money - average riders should pay about R250-R300 per hour.
  7. Rynard van Hoven - 2009 Crater. He is riding Epic in team Reparil, they are on 19:06 hours after three days. That must hurt!
  8. @ Bontie, that's the other B-man LOL! I was referring to another master. You're so vain, you probably think this thread is about you... (just teasing, but you can take it, right?) Chap I am talking about finished 18th in Crater Cruise (but his SS is a 26")
  9. True - but some hardcore MTB'ers are also riding verrryyy long days this year - Some guys that finish top20 in one day races (on singlespeed bikes) have spent close on 20 hours in the saddle so far!
  10. The "correct way is : Claim 20% Vat back at customs. Declare it at SA customs, they will charge 15% duties (only complete bikes) and 14% on the ex VAT amount. No hassles, but no warranty - sometimes you can get a pretty good deal at your SA LBS, just push hard for a proper discount!
  11. let him box it and bring it in has his own - no duties - should cost about £120 (depends on which airline)
  12. So, has this bike made it to a real scale yet??
  13. You cannot go wrong with that...
  14. You'll have to spill and tell what your budget is... otherwise you might get misdirected advice.
  15. I see in your blog you seem to want to ride TR with a hardtail - well something is going to be soft afterwards! I suggest you get a dual sus bike - The Zula is highly rated by most, so I cannot fault the post above!
  16. Ditto! I moved to Richmond 6 months ago -there is plenty of riding here! You will probably not get to ride as much during the week, but there are magic trails within less than an hour from London (Southdowns way/Surrey) and then of course - there is Wales. There is also no hassle with private land and angry farmers, there are public byways almost everywhere. When you get here, PM me and we can arrange a lekker ride out Dorking way...
  17. Okay, you have a VERY good excuse to sell your bike and buy one when you get to the UK. Bikes are a fair bit cheaper over here. Buying a case - R3-5k Sending it - R2k?? That is R5k you could add to your proceeds towards a new bike... I have no idea what bike you have, but generally I reckon bikes are about 30% cheaper over here.
  18. It is not UCI legal and marketed as a "training tool" It has pretty much integrated everything - Think it is made as a marketing or showpiece bike, although they have sold numbers. The core business of the company is design and manufacturing of carbon bits for F1 and other hi tech industries.
  19. That is a really weird statement? All bibs look like that, don't they? Besides - the one in question costs half of the price of a F1 Mille and I promise you the chamois is on par and the fit is better - I rode that exact bib on the first 3 days of 2010 J2C and that was over the worst section of grass tufts you can imagine , on a hardtail. It is a truly good bib at a very good price, but if you want to spend R3k on an Assos bib - I tried to point to a useful alternative. As your signature says...
  20. Assos Mille is really good, but well worth a look at is Etxeondo. IMHO the fit is better and the chamois are on a par anyday, at a fair whack lower price (R1500 - R2000) If you interested PM me...
  21. I think she did IM last year as well, If 109km takes 4:20, she must spend 8+hours on the bike leg... Now THAT is endurance!!!
  22. Agreed, Lurrrrrvvvv the green/pink etc colr schemes, the red/black/green is a bit boring. I commute to work, but would feel to sorry to chip/scrath the paintwork on one of these...
  23. Potentially a silly question - Could the failure not be caused by fitting a fork with too much/too little travel, which would put undue stress on the frame/headtube? Hard lines, never good to lose an expensive frame like that! Good luck!
  24. There are 1000's of cyclists in CPT heading back to Jozi as we speak, why not just ask someone to bring it back for you???
  25. Hi all afficionados! I stumbled onto this ad yesterday. If anyone is interested I will gladly assist as I am based in the UK and it seems like it is a one of a kind product although the price is pretty steep..
