  1. I suggets signing up with one of the shops, they wash and service your bike. You are not going to feel like washing your bike after a hard day in the saddle Eat, Eat - if it can be eaten, eat it - always, pre ride, during ride post ride - EAT! Best advice ever (this was given on this forum by Spinnekop prior to our 2008 Epic) Take biltong and dry wors with, because there will be someone with bilting and dry wors in the camp! And he might not be willing to share! Oh yes, crazy as this may sound - methylated spirtis and milko balm is your friend!Capeesh?
  2. 2 of my colleagues are going to do this in July, does look like fun, but you are in for big $$$$ to di this one... Vic Falls Challenge Joberg2C Wine2Whales and I think you might have some spare change...
  3. Travel by bike is often faster than a properly functioning commuter rail service. Take London - 16km to work takes me 50-60min by rail, by foot it takes me about 1:20 and have not tried bike, but surely that will be about 40min (along the river and through parks, most of the time). They hang out of the trains, because they don't know...
  4. Do it - buy the RC that is in the for sale section...
  5. Used to be a guy by the name of Jacques (rides for Blackrock vets team)... As far as I know the official agency has gone to ag , try contacting them...

    HELP!

Racetec is the ex yellow one - later versions were orange and rectangular... Good luck!
  7. Be very careful, the headtube/headset may not be able to withstand the stresses at different angles. This was confirmed by CRC a while ago : Hi Richard, Thank you for contacting us. This Fox 32 Float RL has a 1.5” steerer so it will not fit your frame. We also do not recommend travel longer than 100mm for this frame; anything longer is likely to void you warranty as the risk of damage to the headtube area is increased. If you have any other questions please just ask. 8. I have a G3 unit which has been used for about 10 hours - interested in selling as I am not too happy with it ...
  9. While I have sympathy for Mr Bos here, the Garmin Edge 305, was their first foray into a cycle computer and from what I could gather the newer versions have seen vast improvements in reliability, datarecording, usability(is there such a word). I sold my Edge 305 a while ago to another hubber - and he is using it without any hassles (it is now 3 years old and well used - I used it 10-15 hours per week,52 weeks per year). The gripes I ahd with the Garmin was: - Poor battery life - No wrist functionality for running (now there is a 405/410?) So get a Polar - it fits on the wrist and the batteries last a long time? Polar RS800 G3, for multisport. The G3 unit is MASSIVE, uses one AAAA battery every ten hours and is VERY unreliable. The unit itself is not as user friendly as the Garmin was. I cannot vouch for the others, but between Polar and Garmin - the Garmin will get my vote. BTW - The G3 footpod sensor is on its way and I will soon buy an Edge 500/800 for the bike. I do not know what I will do with the G3 sensor, chuck it in the cupboard I suppose... In term of price - not much difference.
  10. Spot on, sometime they're low on stock too!
  11. take a chance , win a prize - slap 40% duties and VAT onto that and you still have a good deal... If you are in the market for pedals AND shoes. Otherwise you are saving yourself out of money - As with all multibuys. Good deal though!
  12. I'm no weightweenie. I carry a bit of extar between the lower thigh and the pectoral area anyway...but the bikein that video seems a pretty standard build (lighter brake calipers and a normal FSA crank/standard FSA bars and all that. Sure those wheels a feathery at 1100gr. but as long as the UCI imposes the archaich 6.8kg rule, there can be only one... BTW - saw one of those BERU F001 bikes yesterday - WOW that thing looks fast! - at $34000
  13. I know a lot of people say the Dogma is a pig (incl. Brad Wiggins). Just seems strange that these guys claim to have a pretty ordinary build at 6,4kg?
  14. They are plenty strong - I know of a number of 95kg+ guys who have ridden them for years without issues...
  15. I think the Trek 69er pretty much started all of this...maybe after GF though
  16. The Cannondale in question ships to UK only, and has cheap - ish wheels.
  17. Janneman, I know - I was teazing him, we have been friends since way before he even started cycling the first time (early nineties). Shame, the poor oke really went down hard... I agree with what you are saying. It as an age old problem though - the numbers (highly dependant on newbies) are required to make the races a success. I bet the girl got such a fright when the bunch came passed her at 40km/h. She looked at the guys going so fast and rode where she looked...
  18. Haha - Taking 11 years off to smoke 20 cigarettes a day, and drink waaaayyyy too much does not constitute being a cyclist for fifteen year bud! Glad you are okay!
  19. IM France - Nice , 25 June. First drowning session was yesterday - Can you say UPHILL BATTLE? Don't own a bike - at the moment, hoping to have in about 14 days - relying on muscle memory Run - about 60km/week at the moment... Good luck everyone!
  20. Sure, but the effect is a 2% increase in prices. Imo it builds in a buffer, so you will never pay more than the price you see. But you are correct, it is just VERY difficult to work out exacrly what something will cost you because CRC also use different rates from what your bank is selling at I am sure... If your LBS comes within a reasonable margin of CRC I would buy locally. Unless said bike is on CRC Sale (where they discount bikes like 40%) YOUR lbs should be able to come pretty close if they want to make the sale...
  21. You can also go and sit down with your LBS and squeeze him a bit, might end up getting a good deal...and shop around a bit
  22. As a rough comparison - change your settings to ZAR and your country to UK. The price will then include UK VAT, which should cover most expenses, except special delivery and import duties (complete bikes carry a 15% duty)
  23. Bought a Rotwild RGT2 Trail MTB online in Germany middle of last year. Carbon frame, XT throughout,Fox fork, DT Swiss Carbon Shock,Formula Disc brakes,Fizik Tundra saddle. Marked down from €4500 to €2400. On exportation I got back the 19% VAT due in Germany as well. Total cost at the rate of exchange at the time, just under R20000. Brought back the 2011 S-Works shoes from Germany in November. Off the shelf, not online. Cost me R2000 after the Vat refund. Yes, all far, but per legislation you would have to declare the goods at customs when you entered, and SA VAT would have been charged on the "customs value" of the goods. What you did, by claiming the VAT back and not paying VAT or import duties on entry into SA is actually against the law, but that is not the point I am trying to make. Distributors cannot avoid paying VAT and duties...their businesses will be shut down in an instant - unless they are connected in some way to the cadres, because it seems if you know the right peeps you can do as you please in SA.
  24. Coenie, I am sure you just got lucky and weren't charged the import duties... It does sometimes happen that customs slip up, to your benefit of course.
  25. HanB's bike has gone a long time ago...
