  1. Fair points about swopping in links as needed. Will most likely be the approach i take. For now I can only hope my existing cassette lasts at least another 12 months before this dilemma needs to be faced. Maybe Lyne comes to the party with a Microspline driver for the high engagement hubs so I can run the XT 10-51 cassette and not need a new chain.
  2. What a crock of ****. Want to change your setup for a race then you have to buy a new chain just to use a different chainring. I miss 9 speed. Won’t lie.
  3. I’ll end up with 3 quick links in a row if I want change my cassette to a 10-52 and go from 30t to 32t chainring. Heaven forbid i want to go for a 34t chainring. That can’t possibly be the correct way of lengthening a 12 speed chain.
  4. So how do you add 2 or 4 extra links to a 12 speed chain?
  5. For the interim I bought a SRAM GX round chainring. Happy to report that the noise is gone and the drivetrain is smooth as silk again.
  6. All yours. I'm planning a ride at Red Barn at 16:00 this afternoon if you'd like to meet.
  7. I have a basic torque wrench kit just lying here doing nothing. 4nm to 24nm and missing the T25 bit. Not sure how accurate it is anymore. Had it for about 8 years and it was unused for a few years. Free to a deserving home. Based in Orange Grove Johannesburg. Collection only.
  8. The only place in the world where you start your ride and climb all the way back to your car.
  9. Glad I could help and that you didn't lose your camera.
  10. Will definitely need extra if I'm bumping to 52 rear and a 32 front. Now to find a connector or go with a new chain again.
  11. And another questions. With lengthening the chain I will need a Shimano Chain Connector pin. I can't find anything online for 12 speed. Is this some hens teeth product or are the 11 speed pins the same?
  12. I’m currently on an 11-51 cassette and i’m leaning towards a 10-52. I assume the chain will need 2 extra links? Edit: Reason being is that Lyne only has an XD driver for the JB02HE hubs leaving me unable to do Microspline and an XT cassette. I will need to run a GX cassette with the rest of my Shimano setup. Second assumption. SRAM chain will be better for this frankenstein setup than the Shimano chain i just bought?
  13. Was my exact thinking. Will only be with my on the 6th and since i’m on leave i have to keep riding the worn out one. The grinding noise is driving me insane.
  14. Stick it out for a few rides. My guess around 100km and the chainring should break in again. Or so I’m told.
  15. Same problem on my end. New chain done at 0.5 and i’m getting the grinding. It is a little better after 3 rides but still noticeable under power. New chainring on the way. Not impressed with the quality of the one i have now since it only lasted 1000km.
  16. You definitely picked the two best ones in my opinion. If you packed your climbing legs you can check out the new 28 as well. Takes you into the outback trails a bit. Alternative is to take on Khyber Pass if you’re looking for a good forest road gravel grind.
  17. Which routes have you done so far?
  18. Interesting one we have here. From the photo it appears that they are riding in a single line. Not all the way on the edge of the road but definitely off to the side. As a motorist I have no issue with that at all. There is more to this than the innocent oom getting assaulted. You don't throw down without being provoked. I'm pretty sure it's a case of "holding down the hooter and passing as close as you can" and then the cyclists "**** you you ****" with fingers held high. After this everyone stopped and oom got out of his car and the proverbial **** hit the fan. I hope the cyclists also laid a charge against the oom instead of just assaulting him and running off. In my humblest of opinions both are at equal fault for escalating a situation that could have just been left to be.
  19. Any bike will only be as good as the person that put it together. You mentioned brake alignment issues? What exactly is wrong?
  20. Your input on my b tension adjustment problem was invaluable.
  21. There was a mention of a razor and a bath that I assume was reported. My bad. It was in the classifieds comments thread.
  22. I had no idea I started that many topics. Hope it was of some value to the community. As for being number 8 on the comments side. I’m surprised it only came with one warning point.
  23. The fork of legends.
  24. The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweet taste of low price is forgotten.
