  1. I need one black ZTR Crest rim, MK3 or EX doesn't matter? http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/stans-no-tubes-ztr-crest-mk3-29er-rim-32h Thanks guys
  2. I was declined three weeks before the Argus, felt it was a bit excessive. My blood pressure is always closer to the 140 mark than 120 and my Iron is always around 16-17. Never noticed anything after donating but I rest for at least a day. But then again I'm one of your slower riders going up, and gravity does the job down
  3. You say you're not bothered by the different brakes but sram guides are streets ahead of xt brakes. Especially if you're a larger guy. Then another noteworthy item to mention is a all sram drivetrain means you only have two clamps on your handlebars. And that's amazing, but not worth money. Just looks cool.
  4. I just buy the 5 litre nam sealant for r600. Have been using it with Maxxis ardent for a long time, no problem.
  5. Ofcourse. We started out buying second hand 26ers for R2000 a bike. (Bikes 1,2) Sold it for the same after a month when we decided we're going to do this. Then continued on to buying each of us a secondhand Silverback Sola (1 for me, Sola4 for her). (Bikes 3+4) Then started riding trails and she fell a couple of times. I lost it and sold her Sola4 around what I paid for it and got her a 650B Silverback Slider 1. (Bike 5) At the same time got myself a Giant carbon bike (Bike 6) from my brother in law for a great price, so sold the Sola1 to my boss for what I had paid. The sola1 also came with ZTR crest rims which aren't really rated for my 107kg frame. Entered wife into the 2015 Argus and she said she'll only ever do it if she's on a road bike as she thought she couldn't. Bought her a second hand Trek roadbike for R4200. she did the Burger with it as well as other womens' races. She did really well and when Cyclefuntic in Durbanville sold all their Specialised stuff we bought her a proper new roadbike. (Bike 7) I bought myself a crappy R3000 roadbike as well. (Bike 8) A month later I was given a carbon roadbike for work I did for a client. Had to sell it as it was the wrong size (Bike 9) Last year on the velolife auction I bought a carbon 29er hardtail frame and components here on the Hub and built my wife a lightweight MTB. When we went out she could choose between her 130mm travel Slider (14kg) or the Bergamont (11kg) and mostly chose the hardtail carbon. She then started riding really well. So I sold the Slider and Bergamont and bought her a Rocky Mountain Element RSL999. (Bike 10) Myself - Well I thought about a dual sus as well. Bought a Trance (Bike 11) from a good friend which I rode for three months and then decided I want to sell my carbon hardtail as well as the trance and buy a carbon dual sus 29er. Bought a Turner Czar (Bike 12) So its 12 and not 13. BUT!! Importantly when I started out cycling I never thought anyone could pay R20k+ for a bike. It took me time to develop skills as well as testing different setups etc to figure out what I want and like. I like somewhere between a XC and Trail bike. I like 29er wheels. I prefer through axles front and rear to give me added comfort due to my size. My wife is a talented cyclist and I'd like her to have a good bike (Though pregnant now so may sell her bikes for now) If I went and bought new what I thought my riding style was going to be I would have still had my first bike. Buying second hand allowed me to not lose too much as my riding evolved. Now that I feel I know what I like and dislike I'll buy new.
  6. My advice: Buy a good secondhand bike. If you turn out not to like it too much you can get all/most of your money back. If you turn out to love it you will likely want to upgrade a bit and then you can again sell for close to what you paid. Started riding two years ago, have had 13 bikes between me and the wife.
  7. Ek kon darem help met daai troue. En my bikes was nog nooit so goed gediens nie... Net jammer jy trou nie weer dat ons daar kan kom service nie
  8. Yeah my next set of tyres were also going to be Canis + Ibex, but now I'm having doubts... Maybe Goma + Saguaro rather..
  9. Well done Wolf. This is one competition I wouldn't have minded winning!! If you are keen to sell (at a descent price, not R500), feel free to PM me. Otherwise, if the distributor may feel like offering us other buggers who didn't win a descent discount on a pair, PM me
  10. I've got a set of Impact Low's that I use on flats (bought second hand) I'd love the clipless version as well for when I ride less technical stuff on my hardtail
  11. I'd rather get a mechanically doped bike that will make my 36t feel like a 50t on climbs. Should be cheaper too!
  12. With the registration code expired, I can't see saffers forking out $45 to join the program.. Actually, that should be waived completely - no reason for this to exist in the first place. It'll just stop me from ever using the service in the first place, as I never foresee buying that much stuff from overseas to save R1000 over and above the issues like warranty replacements etc etc when buying internationally.
  13. Cool guys. And if you need your bike serviced just take it to Louis.. Benefit is any parts needing replacement comes at the very good Evobikes prices instead of RRP.
  14. Isn't it just ESI Gripgits? http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/esi-grips-fit-xc
  15. Is that a 1x 650B that he's riding? No shifters on the bike and the rims has 650 on it..? If it is, go 27.5"!!
  16. Get as short a stem as you can, will help you going down trails. Also drop your handlebar below the headset spacers. But yes, 177cm isn't really large.
  17. Just an average gradient of 2741% over the full course, thus 5500% odd when you're climbing. Sounds about right for a moon launch
  18. Cape Cobras come in every colour, including completely black, spotted, greenish, golden, straw, brown, banded. Much more likely that it was one than a Rinkhals. Just also remember, most of us won't be able to quickly identify snakes from each other riding along (unless it's a puffy of course) Look at this Cape Cobra:
  19. Most high end frames are made in China / Taiwan, including Spez. On a different note, one of my friends' baby was made in China, seems like everything gets made there these days.
  20. As I see the Spez vs Pyga debate: If you're a pro and skinny guy (<75kg) then by all means get a Spez. If you're more the type of typical proportions South African men seem to be, get a Pyga. It's not always about what the guy that wins is using, but maybe about what the weekend warrior (ie masses) would be more comfortable / better etc on. And that's why I vote Pyga.
  21. Not a Merida fan at all. One thing this that none of the other bikes had thus far is the SRAM Guide Brakes. Dual Piston is the way to go, would have expected to see these on the Yeti etc as well..
  22. I'm also looking for demo saddles in Cape Town. Currently ride a Phenom 143mm but it's not the most comfortable ride
