  1. For time and safety sake I use the indoor trainer for most of my training. I was actually thinking this morning to look on the forums to see if there were some more workouts. I will post a few later but was wondering what everyone thinks of the time spent on the trainer. Like a gym session I feel you are wasting your time with anything over an hour. Most of my sessions range from 45 to 60 mins - I save the longer hours for the trails or road events. I will do two of these sessions a day or one with another type of activity i.e. running, paddling or swimming
  2. Hell these people make me laugh. They are corrupt in South African terms, provding middle class tax payers with some form of benefit for all the taxes they pay, the thought of it,....corrupt I say IDIOTS
  3. Yep, was happening for a while when trying to load to the "home" page then used a history file to jump to forums and seems to be running okay now
  4. Very, very sad Best wishes to his family and friends.
  5. Nope, whether sitting on the front of a group with my road bike, smashing through some mud on the MTB, or popping down to a coffee shop on my foldup I always make sure I'm having fun ! We aint been held reponsible for performance results so we might as well have a good time. I always laugh at how many serious people are out there. Smile and wave - only takes a second
  6. Sad to think that in this place we now have to have a six wheeled bike to enjoy a ride out in the sticks (4 on the 4x4 and two on the bicycle - utterly pointless me thinks )
  7. Nice one
  8. Nice design and application. Like the colours ! Would be cooler though if it was a VW
  9. If you only looking for a short time then the Isle of Man is also an awesome place to ride. You can follow the TT route for a good tour of the island or stick with the coast road from Douglas through Laxey and then around the other side down to peel then calf of Man Point of Ayre is a must see, really puts things in perspective and there is an awesome route with switch backs and forests that cuts south of Snaefell. Awesome road ride ! For Mountain bike follow the abandoned railway line from Douglas to Peel and then pop down the Glen Maye for some forest fun and a great pub lunch at the local. Very festive in summer. The end-to-end MTB race is also quite something, takes you from top of the Island to the bottom pretty much as the crow flies. Only +-75Km race but there is lots of portages, farm walls to scale, big climbs and serious mud. Can't remember my time but I was very happy to see the end. They say it takes the average rider around 5 hours to complete End to End
  10. Dang... missed it
  11. Think I should fuel up my quad and join a ride in the area. Chase them down like the dogs they are ! Glad you okay and nothing happend - was this reported to the police? I know they probably not going to do anything but at least they may start taking action when similar reportings in the area start coming in.
  12. Anywhere in Western Europe is great after March/April You do anything there - wine routes, mountains, beach resort towns etc. I'd say a must ride is Verdon Canyon in South of France (stay in Castellane) Really beautiful place. Just up from Nice (where a lot of the pros like to train) I want to ride the big sur in california soon. Runs along the coast between Monterey to LA. Drove down it a few months back, beautiful and packed with cyclists. Wanted to dump the car and get a bike ! Next time
  13. Would love to be able to ride like these guys.
  14. I use white Lightning on both the road and MTB- have done so for years - even in super muddy and sludgy stuff in the UK. Use the Epic version for a good all round one. No Squeeky Squeeky but maybe thats cause I'm a little rententive and wash my bike pretty much everytime it goes out !
  15. Am loving this thread ! Thanks all for the ammo (Whenever I pop into a mates office - he runs a design company - I change all the desktop backgrounds to some awesome biking or aircooled VW pics - bit of a calling card )
  16. I've started, like many others, to make the same fuss. Some organisers let it go at registration and those that don't I walk away from. How come if I pay the day licence I dont start with the "Licensed Riders" I've tried without succcess so far to try and get a once off yearly sub in order to race without have to pay the more expensive day fee option (I dont mind supporting but do mind getting fleeced) but have been unable as I dont belong to a club. I dont want to belong to a club - I have my own kit and my own friends. So the race organiser will suffer. Dean is right - I'll just pay the indemnity or entrance fee on the normal day and carry on regardless. We want value for money and I think that is what many have missed the point of with giving the Epic fee example. The folk riding the Epic are happy with its value proposition. But paying R200 for the same track you can ride any other day for R20 to R50 and then not get much else to add the value difference - Doesn't make sense. R100 per water table - hell I dont even stop at them !
  17. Nice one - old VW's are my other weakness !! Drive em carefully - no airbags either Another forum you might be interested in Aircooled SA
  18. Loving the ragtop bug in the background
  19. Got a reply. They are happy for you to take the bike on the train provided its in a bag or you can leave in in the parking area in the stands provided. Dont think they got the point. mmmm.....
  20. Spare parts in motion
  21. Enjoy the tour. Followed it last year with a camper van and fold up bikes. Plotting to do the touring thing next time though. Worth every cent !
  22. My experience in attitude stems from experience and discussions with people there and is due to the law and its effeciency in those countries. Yes there are cases everywhere to prove both sides of the point. My point is that the laws and its application by the relevant parties in those countries make all more aware. Therefore our law is not been applied to the same extent. I currently have a friend fighting for his life in ICU where the police have not bothered to even to do an investigation, not even take witness statements or even photographs. Even when other friends arrived at the scene they were ordered by the police not to take pictures for evidence. The law is not been applied due to lack of training/overload/ignorance - pick any one. anyways - ride safe !
  23. Absolutely fantastic ! Are you sure you went to work and didn't decide to pull a sicky to ride those awesome roads and check out the great scenery !
