  1. Everyone going on about chipping E-Bikes boohoohoo no chirps about the jong laaitjies with absolutely no road or driving sense, chipping their GTI's and Beemers and dragging or popping donuts on public roads. E-bike haters need to get over themselves - They here! more and more will be seen on the trails in the future - They have motors they will be chipped, its what a lot of owners do on any motorized vehicle. I'll shut the door on my way out
  2. Aah okay - i stand corrected then
  3. In my world "Remote Lockout" means cable and remote lever on the handlebar so i would say you read the ad correctly - Give the seller the opportunity to pay you out the upgrade cost or chalk it up as school fees and give him the necessary rating. Aren't there additional internals that have to be changed to ad a remote lockout ? I did a much older REBA and had to change the lockout cartridge for a spring loaded one

    Transbaviaans 2022

Doing this event (repeat) for the 1st time - so if you come across some old guy sitting next to his black TREK Top fuel on one of the climbs crying for his mommy - That would be me 😁
  5. I can understand why your wife laughed she clearly has a good sense of humor.
  6. I run 1 X 12 with 10/52 Cassette with 34 oval chainring - I just went down this rabbit hole - I suck at climbing and find when i no longer have the power to turn the cranks while in the 42 and change to 52 my cadence increases and i start to bounce - the jump from 42 to 52 is too big, i need something in between. so i changed to a 32 oval and only done one long ride where i never went near the 42 or 52 so for me the jury is still out. Next week i will ride SBR which we did 2 weeks back on the 34 and will be a good test on the 32. I think no one can tell you which chainring to use - Every rider is different - I would do a hill on 34 and then do it again on a 32 - measure your speed / time / HR & perceived exhaustion - this will give you a good indication if its better for you. I even got a 30 oval but haven't tried it yet. a lot of riders are always concerned if they drop the chainring size they gonna spin out on the downhills - For me, by the time I'm hitting 40-50km/hr I'm freewheeling anyway so it more about getting that sweetspot on the climbs. This weekend we rode to Vaal & back, did some good long downhills and fairly long stretches on the tar flats, not once was i looking for higher gears to turn on the 32.
  7. Also check the rim ridge where the tire seats, sometimes there's gunk in there that needs to be cleaned out - if you look around just above the bead of the tire there is a thin ridge molded in the rubber. Once you have seated the tire make sure this ridge is uniform all around the tire just above the rim edge circumference Once you mount the tire use soapy water around the bead and rim before pumping
  8. Is it MAXXIS ? Had the same issue after about 8 months of riding on a CROSSMARK II with no visible damage - Tried to get the LBS to get a replacement from MAXXIS - They insisted it was my cars exhaust which i been using for the last 10 years to transport my bike with no issues - ye ye ye buts that's another story. But trying to figure out why it developed a wobble was impossible so i binned it and used a spare tire I had - could be a number of things - Yes car exhaust position must be checked when the bike is in the carrier - could have been damaged on the trail somehow - could be a bad batch from the factory - Maybe the tire fairy got irritated with you - who knows.
  9. Please give your opinions - Considering changing my rear tire Up Front I run a REKON 2.35 - very happy with it On the rear I normally run CROSSMARK II 2.25 - which developed a serious wobble, so I binned it and mounted an old ARDENT 2.25 I had laying around, which used to be my front tire. With Trans Baviaans coming up i'm thinking of changing the rear I'm looking at the ARDENT Race 2.35 Or should I stay with 2.25 What's the main difference by running the same size rear & front - I've always been lead to believe the rear should be a thinner tire than the front. Or Should i simply stick with CROSSMARK EXO II 2.25
  10. Every time I deal with Rapide I have to come on here and give them a punt Once again outstanding service Ordered yesterday @ 4:30pm delivered today @ 3:00 pm - Thanx Wayne These guys started with a level of service and its never dropped - only improved, only if all businesses were like this the world would be a better place
  11. Follow their instructions to the T and it will change like a CVT gearbox - this video pay particular attention to chain length measuring for hardtail and full sus bikes (many don't bother fully compressing the rear suspension)
  12. +1 - Absolute key on SRAM 1 X 12 setups is that RD adjustment must be perfect - even if you change nothing it should be adjusted to cater for chain wear every so often
  13. I went from GX cable to GX AXS - very happy and GX is bullet proof I suppose the question should be - Will my ride experience be better with GX or X01 ? - I would say no so would never burn the extra cash on X01 - Maybe justified on chains and cassettes for longer life, but other than weight the RD and shifter work exactly the same
  14. Wow - After seeing that i'm at the 2nd place in my life where i would choose this over a COLNAGO
  15. Ye i really feel for the younger generation trying to get into the system - Buying a house - starting a family I remember as a youngster buying my first house when the interest rate was 23% We had to priorities paying debt 1st - Bond 2nd - Water and electric 3rd - Baby food and products. Then the bucket was empty Most nights we had to eat at the in-laws or my parents as we had no food in the cupboard. My only asset of value that i owned was a Yamaha XS 1.1 - i used to go on breakfast runs which amounted to pushing it out the garage and washing polishing it and then pushing it back in every Sunday. What saved us - We created no debt, other than the bond and had no credit cards or overdrafts and store accounts. I only opened my first WW account and got a credit card after the age of 35 and still to this day settle the full amount every month. The lessons I learnt were passed onto both my kids who both live debt free today.
  16. I've had many steak pies from that windmill - I won't mention the stories from the Dunedan though - I would get banned from the hub
  17. I downloaded the file from Garmin Connect - You can get it in GPX or TCX & FIT (I think) format
  18. Here's mine - though the start is not at MTO trail head activity_8648708535.gpx
  19. That was my thought... is he putting on an act ? .....But the time difference at the end I thought mmmm maybe that was not clever to give him such a gap - But Jonas looked properly wasted on the line. One thing for sure, they producing the same excitement that LA and the boys produced, which has been seriously lacking in the TDF these last few years
  20. What makes you think Jonas can recover better than Taddy - Jonas burnt a lot of matches in those final km's but today will tell I suppose
  21. I cracked my TREK Superfly frame on the seat tube - It was actually a serious crack completely around the circumference - I sold it for 1200 ronds, But that was with the rear shock and the ABP through axel conversion kit which i think is where the majority of the value was. TREK had replaced the frame under their lifetime warranty policy - so i was happy with the deal. I would say the frame is worth zero and if you repair it and then sell it on you take the repair risk as you would need to tell the buyer its a repaired frame - move it on as a cracked frame and the buyer repairs it then he takes the risk
  22. But then you get the events with huge Anchor Sponsers and the entry fee is still just stupid We had a number of meetings to be the Anchor Sponser for J2C a few years back - Our company has a huge marketing budget, so they not scared to throw money at marketing campaigns focused in their industry - When we got to money it made our eyes water what they were demanding. Probably why the J2C has come to an end
  23. Oops yes - thanx for the reminder - very rude of me not give a report back. So initially i decided to take a drive to the trailhead which is basically up the R40 towards Hazyview - You turn left onto sand road and drive down past Klipkopjie dam wall up the other side and you come out at what looks like a wood mill keep going past and then you see the MTO sign - turn left through the gate you in the parking area - there is what looks like a bit of a coffee shop at the parking area but it was all closed - parking area is behind a fence and security gate which was open with no security In the parking area they have big boards with maps showing the trails and how they marked - So you choose which one and follow that trails color markings. You pay by downloading the MTO app and use your cr card to pay for a day permit - the permit is on your phone in case anyone on the trails ask for it. We ended up riding with one of the locals but started where all the locals start which is in Drakensberg str White river, just before it becomes a sand road they park on the side and ride from there - in the blue circle We rode basically on the sand roads through the forest plantations and jumped off and onto the single track MTO trails all the way to other side of Klipkopjie dam and looped round to come back. The more popular trails are fairly well maintained and well ridden some of the unpopular trails need a bit of TLC but perfectly rideable. The trails are awesome and hectic in some places so take your climbing legs. The trails are basically open with entry exit points off the public road - so i hazard a lot of people ride without buying a day permit, but don't be a box, be lekka and pay for a day permit its the right thing to do. Here is the link to my strava ride - And yes I did bale twice and bled through my eyes coming back https://www.strava.com/activities/6990457420
  24. This might be a great event, but never in a million years would i ever hate my bike enough to expose it to this kind of environment
  25. If I was a Shitmano guy (which I'm not !) I would stick with the 2 X 11 mech. 11 spd has an advantage over 10 spd Electronic has no advantage over mech.
