  1. I was gonna do that but want my suspension and dropper control on the left with gears on the right - it is like that at the moment but my KS Lev lever really isn't the best - the Wolf under bar is far better. A dropper post is one of the best upgrades you can do, once you experience it you will ask why you didn't do it years ago. I've had to remove mine because it developed some sag and sadly KS Lev don't have a local agent anymore so you can't get new cartridges locally - But now riding with a normal seat post i really missy the dropper
  2. I'm only running the rear shock on remote it does have a port for the fork though but its an old Fox Float 29 so i just use the lever on the fork to lock it out - In fact i just had it rebuilt by RBC with new bushings and stanchions, I suppose i should have told them to put a remote spool in it
  3. Had the same problem with my TREK frame warranty replacement, came with a new rear shock FOX Float Evol - couldn't get it to work - tried for hours - phone Fox agents - Its push to open they said - thank you I said. Its actually an pain in the ass as i want an over bar lever so i could use my wolf underbar dropper lever i spent 100's of ronds on - can find an over bar PTL lever so the Wolf sits in the cupboard
  4. Another option is to get RBC in PE to press in a new steerer, will be a bit more expensive though.
  5. I started cycling (road) in 98 - Now, even though i own 6 road bikes, i mainly do MTB - the original idea was to do MTB in winter a bit later in the morning and road in summer earlier in the mornings. Now i do 99% MTB as road has become so dangerous and our roads so bad I've seen a lot of roadies moving over to MTB being less dangerous for the same reasons. Now with Gravel riding becoming more and more popular, I would hazard even more roadies will make the transition off the road and the best part is the gravel events cater for both MTB and Gravel bikes. They are far easier to organize as they mostly on district roads and away from major city centers where traffic control is a huge issue. In the near future I think all these road races other than the main ones like 947; CTCT and Ama will simply disappear due to lack of support and replaced with more events like Race to the Sun - Race to the Sea etc etc.
  6. After stripping my KS Lev cartridge numerous times and now knowing how they operate i would not store them in the compressed position for any long periods of time. When they are compressed the air pressure chamber pressure is increased exponentially and i would imagine this places the seal between the air and oil chamber under enormous strain. The cartridge is made up of 2 chambers - inner chamber is the oil chamber with a piston rod - outer chamber is the air chamber - when you activate the lever it opens a valve in the end of the piston rod and with the weight of the rider it pushes the piston up into the oil chamber basically displacing the oil into the air chamber. The air and oil is separated by a sliding seal in the air chamber, so the air above the seal is compressed. Considering i pump mine to 200 psi i can imagine what the pressure would be when compressed.
  7. 1. reduce entry fees. 2. start and end at the same place. 3. permanent number boards that mount on the frame 4. dump the race number collection and goody/junk bag Oh! and lastly a downhill route from start to finish.
  8. Another re-invention of old school tech so they can charge you 3 x the price. I agree that these things are certainly worth their weight in gold on long endurance races but the rubber Giant ones from SW for 300 ronds work just as good. what's next - maybe 26ers will make a return !
  9. Watching the Comrades this year it was very cool to see those pace groups coming into the finish and how well managed the pacers kept the timing - Was wondering when this will become a thing in cycle races.
  10. My one stanchion was worse than that at the same place but longer down the side was never an issue and rode it for years.

  12. Dredging up an old thread here. I never tried Aliexpress before and the horror stories i read with SAPO and taking months to get your parcel kind of makes me stear clear - The wife wants to get some hobby stuff thats no available in ZA but lots on aliexpress So what's the best way of doing it - I looked at Aramex global shopper its cost 75 ronds for basic lifetime account - Does it work properly ? is it worth it ? Comments from experienced Aliexpress shoppers would be appreciated thanx
  13. I'd go option B Invertor welder is small and portable and it welds easier than a normal arc welder - The only shlep is moving the genset around - maybe jerry rig a mini trailer to move it round the farm I have a 6.5kva Honda genset i had to drag out the garage every time i use it - built a wheel kit with some 8" inflatable tires - what a pleasure to use now.
  14. I need 10 bearings for my pivots 6 of them from Enduro are 80 ronds each - no big deal 4 are 3801 - 12 X 21 X 8 - 299 ronds each from enduro - WTF !! The problem is the 8 mm cannot seem to find them anywhere else
  15. Dude !!! why are you searching for air leaks with your ears - paint the thing with soapy water - at the valve - round the bead - all over the nipples - then use your eyes and you will soon know where it be leaking. GT is the same as Duct Tape it can be porous so sometimes it works and other times it doesn't - Just go onto the STANS website or university of Utube and see how to select the correct width STANS rim tape and how its mounted. then toodle off to your LBS and get a roll with some stans juice. Oh and clean the flippen rim with proper stuff - GT leaves residue and glue behind when you rip it off. Leave this stuff for the 4X4 okes its the devils cloth on bikes. then report back that its sorted and you riding the trails - Yes and consider this an uitkak
  16. Coming back to this thread - I just went down the rabbit hole of replacing my Top fuel headset bearings - So TREK use a funny size for the bottom bearing its an 8.0mm thickness, where other brands use 6 or 6.5mm mainly - I was in a hurry so bought them from local TREK shop. Not too bad prices Top is an FSA P/No. MR122 TH-873E - size 30.2 X 41 X 6.5 36/45deg its actually an imperial size of 1 1/8" - paid R200 Bottom is FSA P/NoMR127 TH-073E - size 40 X 51.8 X 8 36/45deg also imperial size 1.5" - paid R 400 I remember years back buying a Cane Creek bottom bearing for my TREK Superfly where the LBS swore it was the correct size but it was 6.0mm and still laying in my toolbox. the difference is the outside 45deg chamfer is much higher on the TREK than other brands so the Cane Creek fits but sits too high up in the frame. Oh! and I also priced my pivot bearings and as luck would have it BMG only do 1 bearing size i need - But I was surprised to see that BMG online were about 30% more expensive than the Enduro from solomons.
  17. Interesting that the TREK Top fuel XL fits a 650 & 750 bottle - when i printed their template it didnt seem to fit - Need to revisit this option
  18. Solomons Woodmead have these as well - the short ones and the long ones c/w cage - I have the short one on my MTB seat tube. the best tool bottle i've used - It opens up like a clamshell so you don't have to unpack everything and you can actually fit in a lot of tools. A word of warning though. - the zip is very tight especially when you pull it through the corners any mud in the zip and it will jam - I found the zipper tab to be a bit flimsy and it actually broke on TB so i jerry rigged a stronger tab, the zip also started splitting open after it closed, I used a flat punch and smacked the zipper so its a bit tighter, after cleaning out the mud i used some chain dry lube on the zip - It now glides like an E-Bike up a mine shaft,
  19. I bought a 1.5hp 24 L RYOBI air Comp from builders and the compressor tools set I got the Lezyne spare hose from a normal pump and connected it to the the tyre inflator. I use it all the time to pop tires and pump up MTB tires - you can get about 6 - 7 bar on road tires and then i use a hand pump to get them up to 8 - 9 bar Blow off the bikes after cleaning and blow out chains and also used the spray gun on some jobs - very happy with the its performance Some things to remember Its fairly noisy when the comp kicks in to fill the tank which it does automatically when the tank pressure drops below a certain level - But that adds to the ambiance of your workshop. You have to service the thing every once in a while - drain water from the tank and buy some compressor oil so you can change it at the same time - also make sure it comes with a water separator on the airline. The lekka thing is, you can get all the spare hoses and connectors etc if you need to later on most hardware stores. Best tool in my workshop - use it all the time.
  20. I just brought a MTB Tubolito back from my online shopping in Europe - cost about 300 ronds. I run tubeless but have always carried a spare tube so the idea of carrying an emergency tube that takes up 20% of the space than a normal tube was the main reason for buying one. Rolled up, I can close my hand around it and fits inside my tool clamshell on my seat post, instead of the huge rubber roll I'm always looking for somewhere to pack in or tape to my frame In my opinion this is what they were designed for and not a permanent tube. I suppose one can never be sure if they work or not, but as long as it gets me to the finish or back to my car I be happy with that.
  21. When it comes to MTB pedals - Shitmano are bullet proof, and that be a real big statement coming from me. I used them for years and never had an issue I now run LOOK X-Trails, also very happy with them. Vertical play ? never experienced that, i'm sure something else is not lekka - I would mount the shoe in the pedal and try see why there is play is, something must be worn and needs adjustment. Axle play - I would have taken them back - there should never be any axle play - It means there is a worn bush or bearing
  22. Also look at replacing the velcro on the straps with some serious HD stuff - I have a set of SIDI Dragons which you can get replacement sole bits but the velcro has gone - replaced it with glue on stuff but it don't last
  23. I get so gatvol - every time I open this forum and this thread is the 1st on the list - then I open it and have to read all the Cape MTBers complaining about about how their manicured trails are managed. Maybe these Karyns need a PK every once in a while to bring them back to reality. Please drag this dead horse outside and go ride your bike I'll close the door on my way out
  24. I'd be interested to see exactly what Wahoo's lawsuit is based on. surely it can't be the hardware so maybe its the firmware, but as DC says - ZWIFT is flashing the Jet Black trainers with their own software.
  25. I'm not a big fan of U-tjoob but i really like what you guys are doing so i subscribed - only watched a couple of vids - Awesome stuff. Maybe a suggestion (If you not already doing it) - when you doing a new trail video - give some info on where they start and more important are permits required, where to get and cost, are GPX files available etc etc - anything that would make going there and riding the trails for a 1st time visitor easier For me - going to a strange town to ride their trails this is always the hurdle - where - what - when Looking forward to more of your vids
