  1. The Brooks I bought are actually a D fit, not 2E, but they fit perfectly. I did go half a size up though. My NB are 10.5 while Brooks are 11uk. Very similar fit.
  2. So I picked up a pair of Brooks ghost 12 at sportsman's warehouse on Saturday. These were to replace my NB hierro 5s on the tar. I was pleasantly surprised by the shop assistants knowledge and he helped me get the right size, non of this half size for width nonsense! They were also on special which was a bonus! They feel great on my wide feet, and the fit is very similar to the hierros (a 2E fit) which I love. Came close to a PR on this mornings run, on very tired legs! I'm really enjoying the road running, but man, I'm missing the mountain!
  3. After many years of trail running this lockdown is slowly turning me into a roadie. Bought my very first pair of road shoes today. I realised that my trail shoes were wearing down way too fast on the tar and who knows, maybe I'll keep doing the odd road run after all this is over.
  4. I made a huge mistake on a recent trip to Mexico. I bought some of this without trying it first. Had I tried it before leaving Mexico, I would have bought 20 bottles! Probably the best commercial sauce I've tried. Mild (for a habanero) but with a strong habanero flavour.
  5. DM me I can point you in the right direction.
  6. Ask no questions, hear no lies... I normally run trail almost exclusively. On Friday I hit the tar, did about 15ks and the next day I hurt like I did a 6 hour trail run! I put it down to harder surface and repetitive nature of road running. Been on the treadmill every day prior to level 4, but didn't prepare me for the tar!
  7. Why not. They were breaking the bloody law!
  8. They're a bit 'flimsy', or at least that is when compared to the commercial ones. They are also limited in their speed. Mine goes up to '12' which is too slow for interval training. The belt is a bit finicky, struggle to keep it true. When I run it stays true, when my kid walks, it shifts to the side... That said, it has been an absolute life saver during lockdown. Up to three of us using it some days and it has handled well.
  9. You lucky you still what is a beautiful bike! Every now and then I do a search for cb750c for sale but they are like hen's teeth! (I also don't know if I'd sell my dakar if I found one...)
  10. The two bikes I miss the most were both stolen, not sold. My Honda cb750c and my '69 150 sprint.
  11. I needed to get some stuff from the shop today, thought I'd take my Dakar. Clearly three weeks is too long between rides. Flat battery.
  12. Thanks, I figured it might be boven. Been a long time since I visited boven, but I remember that crag (where doom is) being loads of fun. We climbed there during the rock rally about 15 years ago!
  13. Out of interest, where was that pic taken, Dave?
  14. I found the aggressor to have plenty of grip. I went from 2.3 dhf to 2.5 aggressor and found the aggressor to be way better in terms of grip.
  15. The Aggressor is a great compromise between grip and fast rolling, it also lasts pretty well especially on the front. I've been using aggressors on front and rear, 2.5 and 2.3 respectively. Out of interest, I've recently put a Kenda Hellkat 2.6 on the front and grip wise it's brilliant! Not as fast rolling as the aggressor though.
  16. I got it new from a dude on the hub... I'm not sure who's selling them.
  17. I recently put a kenda hellkat Pro on the front. Really light tire even in 2.6 and it grips!
  18. Any ideas on the best place in Cape Town to service a Philips (saeco) bean to cup machine?
  19. I've recently been through the process of finding a dual sport bike. I tested three klr650s as I thought it was the bike I wanted. I settled on the BMW f650gs Dakar and I'm very happy with that decision. At R35000 was great value. I've done a little gravel and it coped well. I'm mostly using it as a commuter.
  20. Has anyone tried Mr Pukkah's habanero sauce? Hot but delicious! My personal favourite though, is my homemade smoked jalapeño with a touch of habanero for added heat. I tried a red savina grown by my FIL recently. Wow! Hot!
  21. No But you need an activity permit for cycling, sport climbing, dog walking, horse riding, and paragliding.
  22. I've been running 2.5 aggressor on front for a while and loving the balance between rolling and grip. Paired it with a 2.3 aggressor on the back. Can definitely recommend it upfront.
  23. I'm also bleak about Batrun being cancelled. Can't understand their reasoning at all! Apparently too risky? In the 18 years the event has been held there hasn't been one incident. Puffer has had a couple of incidents with participants getting hurt. I didn't know this was being cancelled as well. If safety is their concern they should close Lion's Head. Or at least fix the path...
  24. Spent last night on Table Mountain and woke up to this! Best thing is with left over ground coffee I got to use my brikka. Which doesn't go up the mountain, and doesn't get used nearly enough.
