  1. I think its great that Mike stepped in to assist the victim. In addition to the force required to subdue a criminal, there is also the fight or flight response. I reckon in those situations you do what comes naturally, and that is use physical force. I detest violence, but understand it in these situations. I think I also get where Nishiki is coming from. When guys take pride in beating up the criminal or use it for bragging rights it becomes a problem. Criminal or not, when people take pleasure in inflicting pain and violence on another human being, you allow the thieves to take more than you possessions but also your humanity.
  2. Anyone else get hot flushes after drinking epic pro? When I've used it as a recovery drink, i.e. downing it, I've experienced a strange warmth in my face. I've heard its from one of the ingredients.
  3. Anyone else suffered from this? I've had this issue for a while now, thought it was from running down mountains, so cycled more with no improvement. Stopped cycling for two months, and have been running for the past two months without any pain. Rode yesterday, and guess what, the pain is back. Anyone know if this is a set up problem or whether it is simply an overuse issue? I'm planning to go for a bike set up to see if this helps. Thing is I've had my bike for a while with no problems until start of this year. Thanks.
  4. I think you should be asking 'why do we need to ride with xtr or x0 kit in the first place when slx is more than good enough?' That said, I often choose not to ride in tokai in the wet due excessive wear on my drivechain.
  5. Do a test: pump it to desired pressure, unscrew the pump. Re-attach the pump and see what it reads. It should be the same. If not, then air does escape.
  6. I had a similar problem, ended up blowing R750 on an '84 panasonic, which I love! As the man said, 'its not about the bike, its about how much juice is in the tank'.
  7. Its about 20km, so I reckon an hour.
  8. Get a 29'er, you'll be fine...
  9. I'm not big into supplements at all, but when doing heavy training for a two day 80km trail run I used hammer recoverite and it worked wonders. (With some horse liniment) A mate of mine who has used a variety of supplements mentioned the other day that USN was pretty crap. My girlfriend swears by epic pro though.
  10. The new first ascent apple jacket is supposed to more water resistant. I use the cape storm variation on cold rides with a chance of drizzle. But longer rides with a chance of proper rain, like last year's trans baviaans I use my first ascent rain light jacket, a bit bulky, but fully waterproof, with pit zips and at 395g not too heavy.
  11. Not much help, but when I was a student at stellenbosch I had a sick vespa that I needed to get to cape town. Put it on the train and took it off at cape town station and managed the short distance to the mechanic. It would be so short sighted of metro rail to not allow bikes on a train.
  12. I used it as an excuse to get a new bike, gave her my old one. Turned out she was a natural. Then got her a second hand racing hard tail. Then forked out for a road bike for training. Followed by going halvies on a second hand soft tail. Expensive exercise, but worth every cent when she rides faster than the boys on the single track, and styles on the down hill tracks that some of the boys are too chicken to ride! Bottom line, get her something nice, its for both of you.
  13. Any other options? Looking for something I can ride up to the tokai mast, and then follow the downhill trails to the bottom.
  14. Or should I go for a 29.5?
  15. I am riding a 2007 trek ex9 at the moment, really enjoy the bike, but its getting old. Am thinking of replacing it with a Giant trance, good move or not? Also tempted to try get a Shova, but not keen to ride things like the Trans Baviaans on a shova!
  16. How do the o'symetric rings differ from the biopace rings? I've got biopace rings on my road bike, never noticed any advantage, or any difference for that matter. Then again, its the only road bike I've ridden so not much to compare to.
  17. I ride an oval crank, in my opinion, not much of a difference to be felt. In fact i didn't even know it was an oval crank until someone told me it was!
  18. AS much as grb285 wold like to insist that riders descending single track need to yield for riders coming up, as this is the international standard, it also needs to be remembered that there is already a common practise in place at Tokai. And that is descending riders have the right of way! I'm sure most regular TOkai riders would agree that this is the way that it works there. What the hell are international norms anyway??
  19. My experience in pre-race drinks: Night before 2009 Knysna 50km, carbo-loaded with about 6 windhoeks, felt good the whole race finished in just over 3hrs. Night before 2010 race, due to some unforseen circumstances the only available pre-race drink was a single bottle of black lable, a pint to make matters worse. I started worrying about cramps and being slow! But, i finished in about 2hr20. Which leads me to believe that black lable aka zamalek is 6 x as strong as windhoek as a pre-race drink!
  20. I almost got mugged the other day. Then the would be mugger dropped his knife and asked, 'are those 29" whells?' I said yes, to which he replied, 'in that case, keep your damn clown bike.'
  21. I've just been forced to repalce a Nevegal, which i liked, in a hurry, stole an old tire form the wife, she wouldn't let me steal her brand new racing ralph. So i ended up with a second hand Maxxis Larsen TT. Very surprised at how good it was.
  22. Thanks for the reply, that is what i thought, i'm running Stans in the tire, and i am aware that Kenda's have a reputation of bursting. I was just a bit worried that the 's' bend in the tire might have been as a result of the wheel being out of true. But i guess not.
  23. Whilst riding yesterday i felt a bump in the front wheel, felt it a week ago but it was hardly noticeable, yesterday it more pronounced and noticed an avtual 's' bend in the tire. It looked as if it there were two bumps one on the left and another 2 inches in front of that on the left. This formed the 's' bend. It is a Nevegal with about 60 - 7- % tread. Time to steal the wife's brand new racing ralph out the kit cupboard!
  24. Its only gay with an infundibuliform seat!
  25. But Chubba, riding a road bike isn't gay...
