As he said! It doesn't just stuff up your brakes, it will wear down all moving parts it gets into, especially drive train components. Riding in mud - fun, but expensive...
It will work fine as everyone else said, but it is heavier than SLX / XT, mainly because it is built to be stronger. Go with the SLX / XT crankset and then just convert to wolftooth or raceface narrow wide chainring. You dont need the strength of the Zee stuff on an XC rig, so why pay the weight penalty. Go with the zee RD if you really want a short cage, but other than that I don't see the point.
Where are these "hectic downhill sections" at the barn that you speak of? I have only heard good things about hot spot, so no surprise there, but thanks for the heads up re. king price. Will have to check out their pricing..
I've just popped a Nobby Nic pacestar 2.4 on the rear, and a Hans Dampf trailstar 2.35 on the front. Havent ridden with them yet, so cant comment. I couldn't get them inflated with a foot pump though, so that was a bit of a bummer, but not too serious.

Jorge is a great rider, reminds me a bit of Rossi in his younger days. Marquez has also got talent coming out his ears. Its great to see so much talent and rivalry in MotoGP at the moment. Much more fun to watch than the days when Rossi just absolutely dominated almost every race.. Edit: Oh and have you noticed that Jorge is one of the few riders left that doesn't do the "Rossi foot out" thing when entering corners?
