  1. Ali bike frames are heat treated, so if you just weld it and don't have it re heat treated up to its original spec it will actually weaken the affected area. It also needs to be welded up using the same alloy as the frame (probably 6061) How feasible it is to have it welded and heat treated, I don't know... I also have a cracked frame that i need fixed so I have done a bit of investigation, but most answers are the same as what everyone else are saying. I have a number I got from my LBS of a guy that has apparently done this, but I havent spoken to him yet. I can give you his number if you want, but he is in PTA.
  2. Mmmmm TTS!!!
  3. You need to be more specific. Each company make different frames for different types of riding.
  4. I still have the scars to remind me of my beartrap days. But that raises a relevant point. What type of flats are you riding with and what shoes? If you're riding in your old asics running shoes and using the crappy pedals that the LBS put on, then you will not have a very good experience - Decent flats, and good ol' 510's and you will be amazed at how planted your feet feel. And people in the parking lot will stop looking at you in disgust, but instead will stand there in awe of the immense coolness that is your flat pedals.. ;) I do agree however that riding with cleats is more efficient, so it depends on what you want to get out of your riding.
  5. Besides the obvious, you need to find a good shrink before hand. This will come in handy helping you get over the humiliation of your first parking lot topple over.
  6. Best thing about doing events in KZN is the people. Everyone is so friendly, such a good atmosphere at the events I've been to. I think cyclists in GP need to take a few lessons from the KZN boys and girls.
  7. About R1k sounds right... I'll PM you for your banking details
  8. Pity. Speak to the guys at Cape Cycle Systems then, they are the distributors for rockshox. They will be able to tell you if they bring them in. Otherwise you will have to look at buying online from CRC or similar. Any specific reason it has to be the Monarch plus?
  9. I think Crow was selling one a while back, dont know if he still has it. Drop him a PM and see if he still has it.
  10. V12man!! He has a magic pink pill that will sort you out..
  11. Basically a paint stripper designed for use on carbon and other composites. Anyone know if you can get this in SA? eco-lifting.com
  12. DAMN IT!!!! Ok, then I will go dressed in my Fox Flux, my Fox bib shorts, and my 510's. Would that be acceptable? At least my tyres match.
  13. Lol. I realized that after posting it and knew I would get flack. hahaha. What if my TLD shorts don't have any really visible branding? Will the powers that be let me get away with this one?
  14. I would love to check out this line, I need to get my jumping skills back to being almost impressive I also have TLD baggies and a one industries top, so I should be good
  15. dipslick, I have been following the thread from the beginning, but I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. Of course hubbers are entitled to their opinion, and so they should be. But.. when someone comes in and posts something that is clearly just bait - that is not an opinion - that is stirring $h1t.
  16. If this is your attitude, why the hell did you come to this thread??? Anyway, I quite enjoyed your little attempt to disrupt the thread, but it seems like not many of your trolling cronies are around to support you today, not much going on, on thehub anyway - so thanks for the bit of excitement..
  17. Lol. Whats the matter fattie, didnt get any this festive season?? Why do you come on to a thread you have absolutely no interest in and start causing crap?
  18. Looks like the wheels lost traction in the corner as he turned in to line up the the jump - slowed him down quite a bit.
  19. Just try it. If it works, well, it works. If not, turn it around again.
  20. But seriously, if your bike looks like this, it could get expensive:
  21. I would rather stay out of crazy mud, than have to replace my pads every mud ride - have you seen how much those damn icetec shimano pads cost!!!
  22. Thats the size chickens are supposed to be! Its only since they started with GM and dodgy farming practices that they got so big... this would be a nice explanation (woolies looking out for us with nice organic rotisserie chickens) but I think schweinehund probably has it right..
  23. As he said! It doesn't just stuff up your brakes, it will wear down all moving parts it gets into, especially drive train components. Riding in mud - fun, but expensive...
  24. It will work fine as everyone else said, but it is heavier than SLX / XT, mainly because it is built to be stronger. Go with the SLX / XT crankset and then just convert to wolftooth or raceface narrow wide chainring. You dont need the strength of the Zee stuff on an XC rig, so why pay the weight penalty. Go with the zee RD if you really want a short cage, but other than that I don't see the point.
  25. Please dont even engage with this idiot! He is just going to turn another good thread into a d!ck swinging contest.
