  1. How well do they handle impact?
  2. You guys should do a regular CRC group buy.
  3. I am not to sure what you mean with messing around ? If you get a puncture then the mess will be the same does not matter what you have . Actaully the least "messy" system is normal insuation tape and a tubeless valve on your normal rims . I would however get tubeless tyres as they are just that much easier to seal . And no seals where hurt !!! What I mean is that because he is up in Maun I would go tubeless with the most reliable method. I agree that conversions, ghetto or otherwise, work very well but I am sure he does not have the luxury of running to his bike shop to get more sealant, strips, tyres with thicker sidewalls, whatever. In the big smoke we can do these things. Tubeless can also run without sealant if you have run out. Not knocking conversions but I just think the full tubeless setup is more reliable in the long run especially if you are starting from scratch and in a remote location. And still seal friendly.
  4. Order yourself a set of tubeless specific wheels from CRC. Out in the bush you dont want to be messing round with rim tape and tyre sealing issues.
  5. Makes sense then.
  6. I'm still not clear here. If the hanger is bent, it will be bent along the length below the dropout. Will the dropout not still be square? If you tighten the skewer it should not affect the hanger as the damage is below the area where the jamb nut is compressing the dropout.
  7. Nice one girls! What do we have to do for an invite?
  8. So I put a square on the non drive dropout and checked the distance at the dropout and at the end of the hanger. 100%. Gears working perfectly in the stand but will check tomorrow after a ride. Took me about 2 minutes. Lot less hassle than going to a bike shop. Also want something that can be done out on trail/camp. Hopefully I dont eat my words. Johan, not sure if I understand your method. If the dropout is square but the hanger is bent, how would tightening the skewer move the jockey wheels?
  9. So I am trying to troubleshoot some shifting problems. I have replaced my derailleur hanger but am not sure the old one was bent. I dont have a hanger alignment tool and frankly cant justify the cost of one either. Was wondering if its possible to check the alignment of the hanger against the face of the non-drive dropout. Place a square on the inner face of the other dropout and compare the distance between the dropout and the extremity of the hanger. Any reason why this would be an inaccurate measurement?
  10. Campy still perfecting their mtb groupset? There was one once I believe.
  11. I think it was the Coke ad. As with all these big events Pepsi normally sponsors and you know how popular Pepsi is in Africa.
  12. My Puppy.
  13. You will only be allowed to use cash and VISA at any stadium or WC venue. If you have another CC and you dont want to use cash you can buy a prepaid VISA CC.
  14. Are Crossrides not tubeless rims? Soap and water as has been mentioned above should help. Some tyres just dont work though.
  15. Use surgical spirits spirits. Crap, shower, surgical spirits, ass lube of choice. Dont walk around in your chamois after your ride. If you cant shower, have a loose pair of baggies handy and hang loose for a while while you enjoy your post race frosty.
  16. Maybe both were created simultaneously when pressing the cup in?
  17. Not really a stupid question unless its clearly a piece of crap. If I see a really nice piece of equipment and the guy is trying to flog it I certainly want to know why. Sometimes it is pretty obvious though.
  18. What do you get? Are riders with licenses in the minority/majority?
  19. I can fully understand having this kind of structure for Pro's and competitive cyclists. CSA sanctioned events where Pro's race for national honours should have some sort of structure. Is a license required to get a seedng at road races?
  20. So I get a newsletter outlining the various options of 2010 licenses, their costs and validity. I have seen various debates here mainly about peeps waiting endlessly for their cards but am still unsure what purpose this license serves for your average social mtb rider who does the occasional race. I cannot recall an additional fee or discount should you be licensed at any recent events. Am I mistaken? What does CSA do with the annual licensing fee? Cant say I'm happy to be told that I need a license to do a bit of social mtb riding. If you want a donation to help support and grow the sport I will gladly contribute. Please dont whine about your cards not getting to you.
  21. Drove to Sabie X with 2 bikes and a Thule roofbox mounted on a full Frontrunner roofrack. Just got back from CT where I went to the trouble of loading a smaller roofrack and bike into the car with a "clean" roof. Absolutely no difference in fuel consumption. Pretty high as I drive at 130-140k/hr in a 3dr Prado. Full rack has a wind deflector so not that noisy although the small racks have no such thing and whilst riding up to Jacobs Baai with 1 bike on the roof the whistling drove me mad. There is a very inetersting thread on the landcruiser forum regarding aerodynamics and cars with accessories fitted. The conclusion from a buff in the industry is that when tampering with a car's normal shape in any way a rear mounted diffused is what is needed to redirect the wind flow back down once the car has passed. These look prono so are seldom used. Think of a TT helmet with the pointed end at the back.
