  1. Nice tribute Sean. Very sad to hear about this news. Will always remember Alan as the man who put me onto my first mountain bike. My last road bike too.
  2. Nice one. Was he wearing underpants on the outside? Cape and all?
  3. Do you use bar ends? I used to and then took them off. By thinking I was in a comfy position on them I was actually pressing on the soft tissue in the palm. Took them off and the problems have been reduced. Still get hand fatigue but I think that is more a fitness and core strength issue. TRy the Cane Creek bar ends if you feel you need them.
  4. Mud tyres not only have the bigger and wider spaced knobs but are narrower. You wont believe the difference these tyres make until you have ridden hectic mud in them.
  5. Quite odd. Does the bike have a longer wheelbase?
  6. Thanks for the info. Please keep us updated on his condition.
  7. Do a search for suffer fest. Was looking a while back but never got one. Let us know.
  8. Very sorry to hear this sad news. Hope he recovers fully and quickly. Can someone please explain: 1. How your foot slips off the pedal when standing up. Was he in clip in pedals? Did they unclip or was he on platforms? 2. Did he sustain such severe injuries even with a helmet on? Was he going fast? Are our helmets insufficient protection or are we lucky only have this kind of injury and the alternative is unthinkable. Dont mean to veer off a sensitive topic but if it helps us avoid/reduce a similar incident.
  9. So how about a charity ride in the new year?
  10. CSA, ASA, SAA, ......................
  11. I agree with face plant. Gloves will feel as though they are helping but will feel the same after some time in the saddle as the pressure is still there. Try strengthening your core so you dont "lean' on your bars. Try some ergon grips as well.
  12. Ja, thanks guys. Quite chuffed with myself. Got quite a lump in my throat as I was nearing the top. Summit, you will be seeing my partner tomorrow. He phoned you from the car about a service. Great bloke.
  13. We're only back on the 20th. Enjoy.
  14. So I promised myself that I had to do Breedts Nek before Sabie. Should I not achieve this or battle too much I would have to pull the plug. Well here it is! Nice n slow with not too much stress. 3 weeks of focused "mild" training. Will be tough and I'll be somewhere near the back but I should make it. Thanks to Queen Bree for the permit.
  15. Those laaities can jump. Good stuff!
  16. Nice bike but leave those I-links off. Will make this nice understated bike look like a Harlem pimp or Mr T.
  17. Chain and cluster get removed and washed in parafin' date=' bike gets washed with car soap, hot water and a sponge/brush, spray off with hose! I lube the chain regularly, squirt for dry, motorex for wet. Wheels are DT Swiss 370 hubs.[/quote'] Your problem might actually be too much maintenace. Try giving your chain a clean with either a clip on chain scrubber or the shake in a bottle method. Use a mild degreaser instead of parrafin. Give the rest of your bike a dry brush or damp cloth wipe down. Keep the car soap for your car and the hose for the wet t-shirt comp. I know its not cool to have a dirty bike but just give this a bash for a while which will either point to or eliminate your bike cleaning method. I really think your cleaning is too aggressive and your are trying to fix things that aint broke.
  18. Crow, that wrist of yours must be in pain ogling over this frame.
  19. How do you wash your bike and your drivetrain? HP washer?
  20. I can vouch for the accommodation. We have stayed there for the last 4 yours and are here again this year. Sorry you are bailing Douard.
  21. Speedi, people are pissed off that you are making a profit off a charity cause. I dont think you can be expected to lose money but your time is free and that is what doing something for charity is about. You are abusing people's sympathy to line your pocket however small the amount is.
  22. Eish chucky. Sorry to hear the bad news. Keep fighting. I promise you there is light at the end of this tunnel. Congrats on your fundraising efforts. Next time I am with you.
  23. Holla, Giba, Clearwater.
  24. Havent been to Tofu but have been to Guinjata which is just there. I wouldnt have taken a bike to Guinjata. Sand, sand and more sand. Doesnt make for the greatest of riding. Not sure what is further inland other, other side of the highway.
