  1. Either way, you got a bargain at R6k. Whoever did the paintwork, did a damn good job too.
  2. The first CR1s did not have the plush geometry. They were Scott's race bike before the Addicts were launched. The CR1 became Scotts plush model from 2006 onwards
  3. This is the yellow one I was thinking of. That is a 2005 model
  4. Get yourself the R12 000 mtb and spend the rest on a nice new carbon frame for your road bike. It is always nice to have 1 road and 1 mtb, so you can do both when you want to.
  5. You mentioned that it was yellow before. Why was the colour changed, has it been repaired? Secondly, I disagree with the other guys. That looks like a Scott CR1 painted in the colours of the Addict. To support my statement, the Addict never came out with Tiagra, but some models of the CR1 did. Not sure what you paid for it, so can't say if it was a good buy or not. Some of the very old CR1s were yellow, so it could be older than you think.
  6. Take a turn past Solomons Cycles (in Lynwood and Woodmead), they have some absolute bargains on Axis road bikes.
  7. I was looking at stems for my daughter's bike. A cheap, but well known brand came in at R189. There was also a stem there fore R2 300. My question is.........what does a R2 300 stem do that a R189 stem can't do? (and please don't mention the weight because there was only 30g difference between the two) Is there any body out there that has actually spent R2 000 on a stem?
  8. To start with an MTB is fine with slicks. As you progress, you will probably want something faster. There is a massive difference performance wise between a road bike and a mtb bike on the road.
  9. If I'm not mistaken, the Hi-Mod name has moved over to the Supersix. You might end up getting another Supersix if you buy a H Mod.
  10. Most forks have remained 1 1/8th inch for some time (not sure what that is in mm).
  11. Those Raleigh size 51s are equal to a 54 in normal sizing terms. The Raleigh has a sloping top tube which means sizing will always vary by 2-3 cm over a normal standard bike.
  12. I also heard that Masters and Ladies have cancelled their end of season MTB races because of a distpute between themselves and Hopewell. Seems everybody is fighting.
  13. Does anybody know why these trails have closed?
  14. Those are nice............Fuji must make some of the nicest bikes around.
  15. He is looking at the Scott Scale, this is a hardtail
  16. I've been down this road before..............the insurance company will want a damage report from a bike shop. I'm pretty sure that the frame will be written off as you cannot trust a carbon frame after such a big impact.
  17. They were an SA brand (not to be confused with the British brand of the same name). They disappeared off the market in 2001 or so. It is definately more than 10 years old. Maybe even more. In fact, if my memory serves me correct, Jacques Fullard and Ronel Van Wyk were sponsored by them in the late 90s If you did a google search, you probably got info on the British bikes. I agree with the other people, way too big for your wife.
  18. It looks pretty much like a paint crack, but surely paint shouldn't crack like that. It must be a sub-standard paint job. If the frame is within warranty, I would take it back. Has it been resprayed perhaps?
  19. Not sure of their specs, but both Giant and Silverback have very good reputations and have very good after sales service. Both are also good value for money, but Silverback normally pips Giant to the post when it comes to value. Get the salesman to explain the components to you what is better etc. If they are equal in these terms get the one that looks better to you.
  20. Don't they claim to have the world or olympic champion with that bike?
  21. It might be cheaper to sell your entire 9 speed set up and buy a 10 speed one. There are lots of hubbers selling 10 speed parts at pretty good prices.
  22. Personally, I don't think it is much of an upgrade. The carbon stays won't do much for your performance and don't make a significant weight difference.
  23. Yet another SA brand claiming to be made in Germany.
  24. Most riders nowdays are liscensed with the CSA. That means they fall under the control of the CSA. If somebody brings the sport into disrepute, the CSA does have a right to sanction them in some or other way. With all the press regarding this, I'm pretty sure they will be pressured to have some sort of disaplinary hearing. If they are not liscenced, then there is nothing CSA can do.
  25. Does anybody remember Scott Ayton (and his friend Felix Coetzee) and what happened to him?
