Googled a bit . Seems that the Doors had three songs in the Springbok top 20. Light my Fire '67. Hello I Love You '68. Touch Me '69. My favourite Doors songs are Riders on a Storm and LA Woman. Riders I heard first time on either John Berks or David Gresham's music shows on Springbok Radio. They had fifteen minutes each in the late afternoons. Never owned or saw the actual vinyl (LA Woman) until many years later. With an inside sleeve like this I doubt that it would've passed the sensors. Edit :Will put something on the other thread.
  3. My kleindogter vertel van 'n wonderlike uitstappie na 'n "diereplaas" saam met die skool. Sy is in gr.2. Alles ingeneem oor koeie, volstruise en nog wat. "Weet Oupa, daar is akkedisse so lank soos 'n mens. Nee , nie krokodille nie. Maar hulle moet in die son bly anders gaan hulle dood, want hulle bloed is koud.So hulle sit die heeldag in die son en fokus."
  4. Dof joke . Deleted

Army story. Basics June '76. 4 SAI .Middelburg Tvl. We were two companies in a place called Doornkop . Tents outside the town. Medics with a table under a big Bluegum. We take our shirts off and line up. It takes a few seconds. Swab, jab, cottonwool and off you go. One guy is absolutely scared to death by needles. Not an act, he's paranoid. We keep him calm as the line moves. With only one guy before his turn a corporal suddenly steps forward and says, "I've never done injections, but would like to learn". "Sure" says the medic, "it's easy you just hold it and then you do this and this ",as he demonstrated the technique on the troop. He then gave a syringe to the corporal, and De Lange whose turn was next passed out.

His father was Prof. JLB Smith. Famous for identifying the first Coelocanth caught by fishermen in East London. He was also responsible for finding live colonies off the Comores. This man had passion and drive in buckets. The book he wrote about it was called Old Fourlegs. He once visited Genl Jan Smuts late at night, with a request for a plane to take him to then South West Africa.Thousands of fish had washed up on the shore , and it was a very good oppurtunity to identify species. Smuts would not see him and refused. A while later he again had to contact a prime minister, DF Malan. It was Christmas eve or something and Malan's wife was reluctant to call the PM , who was ill . The request was to send a plane to the Comores where his efforts to make people aware of this strange fish paid off. Malan said yes, Airforce took him to the Comores and Malan had a fish named after him. It's a very good read.
  8. Uni I agree . But I thought that I was stuck in the old days too much. Read a review about this guy . Got it on Play Music. And a local oke nogal.
  9. For years I wondered just what were they singing? "....the Illinois Central and the Southern Central Freight...."
  10. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C53QAuOoSgc Nice song from my youth. Sadly things did not end well for these guys . Two members committed suicide because of financial troubles . Manager stole their money. Edit: I believe the song was used in the tv series Breaking Bad.
  11. This man made name for himself in the UK in the late 60's , early 70's. His late mother owned the Casbah roadhouses around the East Rand. He has just resurrected the Alberton one. It's called Johnny Guitar. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ld1vQVoaQIM
  12. Song composed (and sung ) by a troubled soul , Judee Sill. Addicted to heroin she died in '79 at age 35. This version was recorded by The Hollies in '72.
  13. Skylark , I had no big issues with the car. The valve seat problem I didn't know about . I had mostly small niggles due to wear. Window switches worn out and the like. Aircon went and I had recon units put in twice. Only other thing was, that it developed a clunking sound coming from the chassis. Apparently this is due to some kind of rubber in the suspension that becomes worn. But I never had it replaced. I agree on the shape. It's held up pretty well over 20 years. May you have many trouble free miles in yours.
  14. The late Ronnie Montrose on guitar. Frontman was Sammy Hagar , later singer with Van Halen. 45 Years ago.
  15. Nice Grumps. Default cd for long Karoo roads. Cannot recommend it enough.
  16. Rabbit holes. May I bore you guys with some. '60s Early '70s. Guy by the name of Steve Rowland is in a band called Family Dogg with one Albert Hammond. Hammond leaves. Rowland records an album . He somehow stumbles across songs by an artist called Sixto Rodriques. On his new album he records five songs from Cold Fact plus one unreleased song, without knowing who this person is. And according to the book " Searching for Sugarman", the hired hands in the studio were: Reginald Dwight , Jimmy Page , John Bonham and John Paul Jones. Elton John and Led Zeppelin (minus Robert Plant) playing Rodriques songs in a studio for a band that would remain almost unknown. And a composer that would be lost for another 30 years. I find these connections amazing. Disclaimer : Facts as I remember them.
  17. In a different mood. My favourite Gary Clark song.
  18. I wonder if that was me? I had one that I bought with 180 000 kms on the clock. I took it up to 500 000 before selling. Those seats just didn't wear. My wife now drives a 2013 2.0 litre . The new shape. Spares, I think they are expensive. But that is a general problem with " genuine " parts. I am lucky to have a mechanic that trained at Merc and Honda to work on mine out of warranty. He also knows when to stick with the real thing or not. Timing belt for instance - always original. Not a sexy car at all I agree . But it will seldom, if ever let you down.

  20. https://www.mosselbayadvertiser.com/News/Article/General/robinsonpas-gesluit-20180112 Should we be worried ? Edit: Dryland has been organising events forever. They'll make a plan.
  21. Waar omtrent? Lyk na die area wes van WP 3 en 4? Die plantasies op die pad tussen die twee? Na die klim uit WP 3 uit ? Moet hoog op Dryland se lys wees . Ek is seker hul gee aandag.
  22. Eish . Nee nie gesien nie. En 'n rukkie terug het ek in gietende reen op die einste Haelkraal pad van Hillbilly's af gery. En dit was oral nat.
  23. Die een ? Dinsdagmiddag in Grootbrak. I was coming downhill like a rocket ( a careful ,slow sort of rocket) . Saw the hills opposite the finish on fire. Helicopter throwing water. Fire went between some houses but i don't think anything burnt down. Main street at a standstill as he scooped the water from the river right there. All peaceful and waiting for us to finish. And the weather ? This is a part of the route after the small tar section two Sundays ago. Trust that we all , myself at the back, will be ok.
  24. With a 10 1/2 and a 9 1/2 from E, I was surprised to find myself in D this year.
