  1. foil 20 if i remember correct ?- to be honest i dint see much above the wheels i was trying to hold onto. but yeah i remember you, great effort. makes such a difference when theres enough guys willing to work together to push the pace! now the near death experiences with the jack-knifed truck and the slower riders from the short distance on the way back home was another story!
  2. bloody hell Raboebi, you put the hurt on real bad! you had us hanging on for dear life a few times - i was AL921 ,cycle lab kit on the white / blue. silverback. a big thanks to the handful of guys that were willing to work the front with us, great race!
  3. B @ 6h30 - best argus seeding yet, stoked
  4. as if i dont do that enough trying to hang on to the front of the A bunch hahaha. Thanks.
  5. A start for me as well , however the last time i rode with A bunch was 94.7 - and let me tell you thinking back to that first 30kms up into town - youre not the only one hoping it will split early . but hey you earned that A start , so - use it, even if its from the back of the start pen.
  6. Anyone made the move from A to vets? how does it compare? particularly vets A (30+)
  7. ive just spotted this link.... https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/110915-event-carnival-city-macsteel-national-classic-2012/

  9. hahaha, so far i like this answer best! thanks for the advice guys, i quite like the idea of trail running... i live on the spruit so perhaps a basic walk / run a little bit theory is the way forward. should i aim for 5kms first time out though? what sort of time should i be looking at rather than distance . 30/ 45 minutes?
  10. Hi All I cycle on average 12hrs p week and my mates are trying to con me into doing a triathlon / duathlon / ironman (gasp!) How hard is it to get into running? how will it affect my cycling? while i feel im quite fit on the bike, theres a good chance im gonna frek if i try run 5km's or something... whats the best way to go about it? walking first? i regularly use a HRM on the bike, how do i adapt zones for running? any advice or resources / links would be appreciated. Cheers
  11. ride whichever one makes you feel the most confident and smile the biggest mate. On paper the tarmac is a better bike - yet in reality we all know its about the engine.
  12. id rather use all the money id need to do the epic to buy a new bike. or 2 for that matter.
  13. ive worked really hard to maintain my 6 pack since 94.7... ive had to go down to the local and buy a new one nearly everyday since! +3 kg for me im afraid, thanks to my good friends at SAB
  14. my house is on the bank of the braamfontein spruit about 3kms up from Delta Park - i can tell you one thing, that is one filthy river you definately do not want to take a dive in hahahaha
  15. after using endomondo for ages, i moved over to www.strava.com - a very similar concept, but with better analysis i reckon- the app supports iphone and andriod... aswell as your GPS units like the garmin edge series.
  16. i felt similar on sunday actually - trying to hang on for dear life to the A bunch as they were breaking me into little pieces around the st andrews offramp hahaha.
  17. the silverbacks are very underrated - great bikes for the money, cant go wrong.
  18. i love my fizik Arione (on my road bike) - changed from an SLR as i find it has little more length, giving you more options to shift your position around. Comfy from day 1 - no need to break it in like with the selle. as Splat said above " Get your sit bones measured and buy a saddle that is the right width for your ass. One man's favourite saddle is another man's torture device." if your butt is a little wider go for something like an Antarez instead - if you dont want to fork out to have your butt measured, sit on a piece of styrofoam and measure the distance between the imprints - this will give you a ball park width to look for. Keep in mind the shape of the saddle and your riding style / flexibility as well : i find a narrower nose means less saddle for your thighs to rub against and a flatter saddle makes it easier to rotate your pelvis & ride in the drops. if you have a more upright riding position something like a selle gel flow / flite may be more comfy. often these style saddles have cutouts which will relieve pressure off your nether regions too. Longer rails give you more options in terms of fore / aft position too.
  19. i use the vredestein fortezza tricomps - they can go as high as 12 bar - i ride them around 9 bar though. i weigh 73kgs. Same price as the gatorskins. awesome tyre for all conditions. il never go back to contis.
  20. heres an interesting article i found a little while back about rating climbs in SA cat 1,Cat 2 etc... Gradients of climbs in SA : Health24: Experts Archive.pdf

    ...

you have to put a basket on the front with a radio wired up to a bigass battery, hahahah. or a beer cooler perhaps really cool man, youre gonna have lots of fun. Dunno if your legs will agree though
  22. not sure if this is the right thread to post this, but damn - this slideshow makes me drool!
  23. i find Warmup oil helps keep your legs in race mode while you have to wait in the start pens .... that combined with a 5-10min spin / equipment check before the start seems to do the trick for me.
  24. +1
  25. We should have gotten free rain ponchos and wellies for that ride! To be honest, if the "goodie bags" were of the standard they used to be say 5/6 years back then yes, id say gimme! but really, how many mini soaps and baby packets of muesli do you need? i say spend the money on marshalls and road closures instead.
