I just recently got a 2019 Trek Super Commuter 2nd hand for R35k. I commute 21 km one way , so 42km total per day. It is standard limited to 45km/h (its a special category, thats not very common). It has a lot of resistance once you hit that limit and it was a bit infuriating. Certain sections it helps a lot if you can keep up with traffic at around 50km/h or you want to chase for the green light .... So I got a Speed Box delimiter locally and it works. If its really 25km/h, thats very low. With 32km/h one can still work, depending on how much resistance there is once motor cuts out. I suppose the newer models are much better in that regard. But if its a model that can be derestricted, its definitely something to consider. So far I really enjoy the commute on the ebike, but you need to be wide awake with traffic and pedestrians especially when you go way faster than they expect.

Keep in mind that ring transfer ALL the torque you put in into the wheel. Any type of glue or Loctite would keep it from falling out, but I doubt it will keep it from rotating (ie transfer the torque). If it does, it probably wont do it for very long and may fail when you least want it to. I would get an opinion from a good bike mechanic (it is difficult to give advice without seeing the part first hand) and/or chat to Pyga (Deed are their component brand).

What about getting a 190 x 45mm metric shock and use offset bushes to "shorten" eye to eye to plus minus 184mm?

Im pretty sure they dont have the V6 petrol engine anymore for quite a few years. Also the current range is not that "new" and is due to be replaced with the new generation. Australia (and other countries) already has the new generation, which will only land here later this year or 2022 as they are in process of changing the local factory to built the new generation.

You can now order directly from Cushcore, shipping is 20dollars to SA, but then it probably comes via Postoffice, so bargain a a month to 3 for delivery. At least now you can order for single wheel which helps if you run one only on rear wheel or if you run different wheel sizes

All depends how adventurous you are... Hardtail or full suspension? Id consider the following options: Pyga Stage or Stage Max Mercer hardtail (he has done 1 or 2 full sus as well) Buy a complete low end Spaz Epic Evo and customize/sell/upgrade components as required Otherwise I dont think there's many frame only options in that prize range. The way I read it they will donate R200k + R100k. In order for that to happen they need certain amount of sales. Nothing wrong with that, I'm pretty sure they don't just have R300k lying around. The money has to come from somewhere. I support it 100% and reckon its tremendously generous.

Hi, my Slackline is just over 15kg, with SRAM GX and aluminium wheels, Maxxis EXO+ tires, Cushcore and coil shock. I havent weighed it in ages so dont know exactly and dont care anymore. I am particular in terms of what tires I put on, as that makes the difference for me in terms of how quick the bike feels You should be able to get a Hyrax to lowish 14kg without spending an arm and a leg A lot depends what your frame of reference is and what your expectations are

Hi, Im new to this thread... I see many questions regarding to advice for which bikes: first of all determine your budget.. We've been very happy through the years with: Strider balance bike (had the lowest saddle height of all) Specialized balance bike Specialized 12"pedal bike (used this very short to learn to pedal and transitioned quickly to 16") Scott 16" bike, was single speed, back pedal. Was perfect as their hands too small to use normal brakes) Merida Matts J 20" (this is an awesome bike, rigid, with 8 speed, large volume tire, hydraulic disc brakes, good geometry and was bad priced at around R6k. The youngest (5) is now on the Merida For the older one (7) Im currently getting a Mercer 24" bike custom build. Dave is building the frame and Im getting all the parts together (which is worth a thread all on its own ;-) ) Hope to have this running in the next 2 months. The higher end brands like Scott, Merida has absolutely no stock, thats actually why we going the custom route.

As long as MarcHD has a very thick skin, a good sense of humour and high emotional intelligence I reckon its all good ;-)

My opinion (based only on my own experience) is that many bike shops washing system is to blame for premature bearing failures: time is money, thus using a high pressure washer combined with too strong chemicals makes for unhappy bearings. Especially around the cassette they use some chemicals that makes those cassettes sparkle like diamonds. Unfortunately those same chemicals can clean out the grease of a bearing as well... Thus when my bike goes in I ensure its clean, and give clear instructions for them not to wash it, which normally means put a big freakin sticker on it!
